Excellent video, a fairly new subscriber here and I'm loving the content, im also a fan of pushing old hardware as I'm a bit of a skinflint, the current pc I'm tinkering with was free from work and is a Lenovo M720s. I5 6 CORE, 8gb ddr4 and a 256gb ssd. With it being low profile it has the front panel and lid taken off to fit a 4gb Radeon 550 pulse graphics card. I'm quite surprised what i can get it run at 60fps but my monitor which was also free runs at 1600/900. All fun anyway and you should give Digital foundry a shoutout as it was on the weekly show that Richard leadbetter mentioned your channel. Many thanks, Chris
Nearly forgot to mention, I've got that Msi graphics card in a shoebox in garage lol.

You got quite lucky there as the Gaming X is one of the better coolers, MSI even use the same one for the 1080ti. And it's nice to see you out and about, you buy so much stuff from CEX you might as well ask them if you can film there because you do a great job promoting their shops. It would be nice to have a budget building series where you go into a CEX store and try to build a PC using the parts you can get.

Here's a weird question I would love to ask (if OK,) is why are graphics card drivers specfic? For example could you use a 4090 drive on a 3070? Or a GTX 1080 driver on an GTX 1060? I understand about cross company (I.e not running a GTX card driver on and AMD card,) but same company drivers? Is that really necessary? PS. I am guessing SLAW is Coleslaw? Tesco do some really nice seasonal sandwiche meal deals, too. Not a fan of Squares, myself, I prefer Monster Much or Quavers. But the innocent smoothie looks real nice. Though, again, I prefer chocolate milk. Anway, great haul, Steve.

I know I have the 1070ti, however starfield is running fine for me at native 1080p (switch off upscalling) with a mix of low, some medium and odd high settings, getting 40-60fps. So all on low plus upscaling the 1070 should be playable with starfield.

    G'day Random,
I love my RX580Gaming+ & GTX1080Ti GamingX with this cooler, it works really well & is Super Quiet even on 30°C-40°C days.
My RX580 Boosts to 1421MHz & will sit there all day no problem, my 1080Ti while MSI claim 1657MHz actually Self Boosts to 1974MHz without an OC & will easily top 2000MHz with an OC.
Ps Although I have never thought to use them for PC parts & not sure how they compare price wise, we have had CEX down here in Australia for 11yrs now.
They started in New South Wales expanding to Queensland + Australian Capital Territory with almost 30 stores.

My attempts at buying 2x HD7970GHz editions and a second GTX 970 from my nearest CEX. The blower cooler 7970 was lifeless, and the GTX 970 was barely functioning (read: the computer at least posted) as something had been spilled on the back and there was a lot of corrosion around the swollen+cracked capacitors behind the GPU (no backplate so very easy to see at more than a glance).

As someone with a 1070 Strix, I'm looking forward to more 1070 videos, perhaps some comparisons to newer cards when it comes to considering what to upgrade to considering it's pretty safe to say that the 10 series is pretty much at the end of it's lifespan looking at minimum/recomended specs for new AAA games such as Starfield and Alan Wake 2 for more recent examples with Starfield having the 1070 Ti as minimum so the non ti 1070 would fail to meet minimum and same with Alan Wake 2 with a RTX 2060 being the minimum for 1080p 30 fps on the low preset and the 2060 would be at least a slight bump up from the 1070 for performance. When it comes to what to upgrade to I was advised to target a 2080 Ti, 3060 Ti, 3070 or 6700 XT/6750 XT to upgrade from my 1070 for like $300 to $350 CAD (Roughly 178 to 208 GBP according to google currency conversion.)

    • @cosmy7083
      @cosmy7083 11 месяцев назад +1

Yesterday was my last time with my 1070 after 6-7 years and I can say that it was a pleasure but it had to end. I decided to not go kamikaze on the budget and give AMD a chance and I don't regret it. So I bought a RX 5700 XT for 120$ and sold the 1070 for the same amount. Imagine that it gave me the 2X performance on literally all games and on 1440p. I did some research and found out that on the Nvidia chart is placed between rtx 3060 and 3060 ti without upscaling ( depends on the game, sometimes can be under them ). This card after 4 years after release still has some ass to kick on the second hand market as price/performance. So imagine how the performance will be if you go straight to something higher like a 2080 Ti, 3070, 6700/6750 XT. If I have to choose one I would be totally fine with either one of those but if I'm thinking about the future and the VRAM problem I can see that 8 GB VRAM wouldn't be enough soon...so at least I would raise the 300& to 400$ and start to look at RX 6800 16GB or the RTX 3080 10GB/12GB. Just to be sure that I don't need to upgrade so often in the nearest future just for 100$ difference. If you still want to stick with the 300$ then just go with the RTX 3070/3070 Ti. Your happiness will skyrocket either way limited or not by the VRAM in the most demanding games.

I used to work at CEX during the GPU prices skyrocketing, because it took a few weeks for prices to be readjusted, i was able to snag a 2080 that had been traded in during the midst of the chip shortage for mega cheap, granted after working there for a year i dont think i would ever buy anything again, we all had little jokes and sayings about other stores around the country and their reputation, some did their jobs of testing and making sure things were working prior REALLY well, others did an absolute horrendous job, its extremely hit or miss

I'd love to see you make a video about Windows 10 vs. 11. I recently worked on a friend's PC with Windows 11 and immediately hated it... it felt like one of those modded Windows 8 versions that tried to fix the mess by making it more similar to Win7.

To be fair its from Waitrose, not exactly a cheap supermarket. The general market rate is about £3.50ish for meal deals from Boots,Sainsburys,Co-op and Tesco.

He went to a company called "Waitrose", which is basically a rip off company that parts fools from their cash. They pretend that they're a premium company, but it's just the same stuff you can buy anywhere else for a lot less.

CEX is seemingly pronounced as KeX, after all, people do not wish to be overheard using foul language, for the most part.
Nerds just call it the Computer Exchange.
Good place to get interesting obscure tat. I picked up a 150GB WD Raptor X, the one with the Plexiglas top for peanuts. And an Nvidia XFX 7800GT for a vintage PC I built, I believe it was £12. 👌🏻

I got my 3080 from CEX after the prices sorta went back to normal, Normally I wouldn't buy a second-hand GPU due to this being so close to the mining era crash and nearly all second-hand 3080s are undoubtedly ex mining cards. However, CEX offers 2 Years in-house warranty which basically means they'll refund it if it goes wrong within that time frame. The Card I got has some coil whine but it's not as bad as my EVGA 2070 Super I got from new and warrantied..

Just from watching people get good benchmarks with old cards that are inferior to what I've got on paper but are performing better, I can say with certainty that GPUs don't matter nearly as much as people believe. Not in these modern titles, anyway. Almost half of every graphical setting is based on CPU usage. So if your CPU isn't pulling its weight, your test results are going to be atrocious even if you have an rtx 4090, a lightning fast m.2 SSD and 64 ram.
