His Jackson was a soloist. The main difference is Dinky’s have a bolt on neck, and Soloists have a thru-neck. The body shape is also a tiny bit different, and Dinky’s rarely have a string thru body
The weirdest thing is whether you're a Gibson guy or a Fender guy you always end up with at least one guitar from the opposing camp. It's so weird seeing Jim play Gibsons when he's primarily known as a Fender/Strat guy. I'm also a hardcore Fender guy but would love to own a Standard Gibson LP in Cherry Burst. That's one exception I'm willing to make. xD
he also used a Fender Strat during the SF days. there's a picture out there of him playing it live. it's just a black strat with a white pick guard and single coils.
Man, I really enjoyed this and the Mick video, it’s cool to see stuff like this as a long time Slipknot fan. You should definitely expand this idea with other bands and guitarists!
I've seen pictures of him playing the jackson warrior in 2011 during the sonispher era. I think that's what he was talking about when he said he played it and it looked weird.
honestly love the videos mate watched your gear rundown video as my first of yours and copped his white sig jazzmaster that day and haven’t looked back. Loved that vid and loved every one ever since (including the face melting shorts). Big love and thumbs up brother keep em coming.
3:30 its actually a customshop model made for Jim. Theres a custom "root" inlay at the 12 fret. If you can find the picture of it hanging next to his coveralls you can see how utterly mangled the body is. It appears to have been either shot or gauged for aesthetics.
I saw him use the Warrior on the Jager Tour in 2004 right before the release of Volune 3, he used Jacksons heavily on those early dates before he switched to using Fenders and Charvels
3:40 : I've also seen him playing it (dont know if it is the same or a different black assassin) live on that Voliminal: inside the 9 dvd. And it was also while playing Drop A.
His PRS on the Diasterpiece DVD is my favorite guitar, he's played! If you watch the soundcheck part, it sounds 🖤😈👍😮😳! If you HAVEN'T watched the Disasterpiece DVD, you're missing out! One of the best live performances EVER recorded!!!
@@Loki-sk7bi agree. Satin black, ebony board, EMG's, single volume knob. If I had a signature PRS, it would be based off that. But instead of bird enlays (I'm into zombies, resident evil etc) I want zombie inlays.
That Jackson guitar at the end of the video, the one with the reverse headstock and the bolt-on neck looks just like the one that Josh Brainard, Jim’s predecessor in Slipknot, played when he was still in the band. I’ve seen footage of the band recording their first major label album at Indigo Ranch Studios in Malibu. And the first clip shows Josh playing a reverse headstock Jackson. The footage isn’t very good quality but it’s a piece of history. Definitely check that out. I’ve also seen pictures of him playing one live with the knot.
I wish maverick wouldve stayed around a hair thinner than an ibanez wizard and were great for modding Rare as shit now days. I wish jim would've stayed with prs
Jim was, just helping out Jonathan Davis in the studio. Mick was endorsed for about 13 years w/ Ibanez, but confessed his first choice was a Jackson King V.
Yeah the maverick was another weird deal He only played it a couple of times live when you said. He was in ad's for them in UK guitar magazine's at the time They were made in Korea
That was in fact a BCR assassin. Jim was offered an endorsement at the same time Mick was back in the day under Rico senior, but the story is, Jim was a bit impatient about how long it took BCR’s custom shop to produce guitars when jr took over after his dad died, so Bernie Rico jr dropped his endorsement.
The bc rich assassin was also used in reading 2002. During the song my plague you can see it beat to shit. I dont know if thats a paint job or what but it looks battered
Jackson's are great kinda funny when there the best necks for the bargain or expensive versions my hells my hells get a Jackson an ESP is a generic Jackson lol just the truth!!
Jim used a sunburst strat in 03/04 with both Slipknot and Stone Sour. It can be seen in a video from the houdini recording in which he, Mick and Joey jam Vermillion. He used it with SS on tour, for example the rock am ring 03 appearance which is also up here on RUclips. Don't know what model it is. It's a sunburst model with maple neck and EMGs. Looks killer! ruclips.net/video/4ZQ7VV8zEds/видео.html
This might not be the craziest guitar he used seeing as he is a Fender fan but when they played in detroit 1999 jim used a strat looking guitar and not one of his Jackson's (wich he usally would play back then) here a link to that show: ruclips.net/video/kVFaLsub94Q/видео.html should be around 39 23
I had one. They look incredible, but it was a terrible guitar. Mick even said in an interview that he left BC Rich because their quality went way downhill. I hear they are better now, so maybe he’ll go back some day.
His Jackson was a soloist. The main difference is Dinky’s have a bolt on neck, and Soloists have a thru-neck. The body shape is also a tiny bit different, and Dinky’s rarely have a string thru body
Dinkys are also slightly smaller as they’re 7/8ths the size of a strat or soloist.
Only dinkys that have a string through I know of are the C.O.W (Christian olde wolbers) signature and they are amazing, I have 2.
There are a few other Dinkys I’ve seen that were string thru also. The COW’s were pretty nice.
Jackson MG model (DKMGT) offered a string thru.

That metal flake prs was nice. I remember wes Borland using one too at some point. Can’t find one anywhere.
Wes used PRS guitars on the Chocolate Starfish record. He's used a few brands over the years, he even had a signature model with Yamaha.
I’ve been hunting for this guitar for so long. Can’t find anywhere either. PRS needs to make more silver guitars!

Jim did also use PRS during his early Stone Sour days too

Man, I loved that Maverick JR4 guitar 🤘🏻
When I was 16 and Iowa came out, I wanted the matte black PRS. Loved that thing!
Root with PRS? Woah! I didnt see that coming at all. Super cool

Rare as shit now days.
I wish jim would've stayed with prs
Brooo, you should do one for Brent Hinds. He always has badass guitars
Rip Joey
Jim sometimes mostly used a Flying V live with stone sour in 2001 witch is weird because it was most likely he would use the prs every time
Cool stuff. I had thought Mick Thompson had played an Ibanez, didn't know Jim did.
Jim was, just helping out Jonathan Davis in the studio. Mick was endorsed for about 13 years w/ Ibanez, but confessed his first choice was a Jackson King V.
Hey Ray can you do a history of Jay Yuenger's guitars from white zombie please
Maverick was cutting it EXTREMELY close with that Ibanez inspired headstock
and RG body shape
Hey have you ever seen a white telecaster Jim root used to play. Pretty cool guitar.
yes
I knew I wasn't crazy when I saw that PRS!!
Damn I have been waiting for this since the mick Thomson video
I liked the look of his PRS
Agreed. As cool as the typical PRS bird inlays and maple tops are, I love a stripped-down, no-nonsense workhorse guitar too.

He used a few Charvels before getting a sig model with Fender
