    Hi Stevie,
    first of all many thanks for your good videos!
    You often mention that your performance royalties are important to you and that you distribute your music via Artlist. However, Artlist advertises with Royalty Free music. Am I missing something here?
    Glad about an answer!

    • @Steven_Beddall
      @Steven_Beddall  Год назад +1

      Yeah it’s a bit confusing. Royalty Free’ is a bit of a misnomer in the sense that RF music can sometimes (albeit not often) end up on broadcast networks where cue sheets are being filed. In these cases, there’s the potential to collect performance royalties as the copyright holder of ‘royalty free’ music.

      @ProductionMusicAcademy BMI has been super unhelpful with this. I've had more than 100 tv placements slip through the cracks from tracks that originated from Artlist. I"m super grateful to be on the roster but I wish there was a better system for making sure the users understand what is royalty free use, why a cue sheet is necessary for any broadcast use, and for Artlist to make sure users understand this and have access to the artists PRO information.

  • @sikkde
    @sikkde 2 года назад +2

    Why do you get performance money from the collecting Society for the broadcast, when you uploaded the music on to Artlist which is royalty free music! Isnt that the whole point of Artlist, that the braodcaster dont have to pay any performance royalties?

    • @Steven_Beddall
      @Steven_Beddall  2 года назад +3

      Not exactly, it’s a bit confusing because the term ‘royalty free’ is a bit of a misnomer. Broadcast networks are obliged to pay fees to PROs for usage even if they source the music from a ‘royalty free’ websites but oftentimes they do go unreported. That’s why Tunesat is important. Nevertheless, this is why all my music with Artlist and Motion Array is registered with SOCAN. The concept of ‘royalty free’ pertains more to the idea that a single license fee allows for unlimited usage on RUclips or other social media platforms, so the fee covers you no matter how many times the video is viewed.

      @@sikkde If that were the case then there would be no reason for these libraries to ask me to register my PRO info in the metadata 😊 You can join the Discord group and chat with several composers about the PRO money they’ve received through placements of their royalty free library music catalogue. @@Steven_Beddall thx Stevie. Actually i´m the Head of the major production music company in Germany and we were asking ourselves for a long time, wether Artlist is "really" royalty free or not. Thats why i asked for a track of yours that is on Artlist so i can check if the title is listed at GEMA as well, because then broadcasters would be obligated to pay performance to GEMA,... but in Germany Artlist is used in Television only because Artlist advertises their music as "royalty free", so broadcaster only have to pay a synch fee and NOT performance.
