I've done this many times, I haven't used a step cut, I cut the frame in an arrow head pattern. The step cut looks like a sturdy design. In about 50 frames I stretched or shortened, I never had one come back.
How a frame should be cut is a good way to start an argument. Lots of ways to do it. I usually do the step cut like this I think its easier to line back up. But I've also done a v cut and just a plain 45 cut all strong enough when done correctly and the crossmembers in the right place.
there is more than 1 one way that will work, more than 1 safe way to nothings too ... what we picked here, and why we picked it the way we did had a reason, we explained those .. could you do it a different way and achieve a SOLID repair - ABSOLUTELY. at some point youhav to pick one "design" though .... and I like to pick one that I am familiar with and that worked good for me in the past and that I know and trust .. and another guy might pick a different way ... and he might be more familiar with it and it might work just as good for him as my way works for me .... again - this is NOT a tutorial on how YOU should stretch your frame ... LOL ... remember. = this is RUclips - for entertainment purpose only ! LOL
@@ZILAwelds I very much agree with you on each point you made there ZILA. Especially the disclaimer that this is for entertainment purposes only..! Might not be a bad idea for Tim to add a 2-3 second shot at the start of each videos explaining that very point.. America is the land of lawyers that will do anything for a buck.. Plus, now that the channel is full time RUclips “entertainment” and completely separate to the business side of the Gen&Sons Ltd.. I spent a whole day in the cab while he tests lighted every wire to see what went where.12 years ago and it hauls every day.

that is why the joints will have 2 crossmembers ( one on each joint) and the way the cross member ties into the joint this is a pretty good design - I think.

Those trucks were worked into the ground and never had even the slightest crack on any of them lmao. Yall got this! Hell be good for heavy haul with the way you guys are doing it😂
Tim I have planters fasciitis as well a few things that helped me 1. Never walk bare foot ever 2. crocs they have some arch support and are easy to slip on to go to the bathroom when not wearing shoes or in the middle of the night. 3. Insoles my favorite are aetrex or redwing custom insoles of which I believe are aetrex branded for redwing they map you foot with a computer to find the closest fit for you and they are game changers worth every penny even at $70.00

Tim you would be better off having surgery in your feet. I also had Plantar Facetious. I had shoes made, had slip in insoles and was even in 2 different casts. Nothing helped until i had the surgery to fix the problem. Now i have no problems with my feet. But good luck to you on trying your new boots.
Their is one problem with the one jack and a board to hold up the truck side. You should make sure the floor is level to make sure everything stays flush.
I've only done 2 stretches this way, then was taught to do them a little different. Add the new rail extensions to the tail end of the existing frame rails. Weld, plate etc.. Unbolt all the suspensions, mark/drill new holes, slide the axles and main crossmember back, bolt everything back in. Depending on how long the stretch, the only things that bolt to the new extension portions are generally the rear drive axle's airbags, shocks, track rod (varies with some suspensions.) Everything else bolts back on to original rails. I'm sure someone will tell me that's the wrong way, but it's worked well for me and the men I learned from for many decades
There is more ways than one to do this and to do this safe ! I have added a piece of fram to the end with a tag axle on it for a "Honey wagon" and I have done stuff like this ..... and I have seen people just welding frames without the inside frame doubler and it held up for them (this is not a way I would personally pick) ... I have seen all kinds of stuff .. Z cuts ... etc etc etc ... some were "good jobs" others "got lucky" and some ... oh well ... they didnt make the first or the 2nd category .... you have even proven with your comment that there is more than one way that works ....

I've done the opposite in that the company I worked for ended up purchasing a couple of new Pete's that were west coast rigs, that were too long for east coast overall length regulations. In order to go through the scales, the 5th wheel was moved forward. On the frame cuts, they were staggered as to spread the applied torque to the frame. The frame was already a double frame, so resection was simpler. iMO, unless I was building a truck for a company like Fedex as a Customer Critical dedicated truck, and needed a 28 foot box, I'd look for another truck. To each his or her own.
when I shorten trucks I typically drill new holes for axles and suspension and cut the balance of the back end ... I rather mag drill additional holes than weld .... but then. - to each it own. -if that worked grid for you. - nothing wrong with that ... !
go to your local steel company , theres a gadge to give you the proper angle for your inside fit, they can custom fit that piece. I bereave it was a tempered steel

You could use a cargo strap to secure the 4x4 to the frame.
You might want to give it sweeper back and reconnect the frame because westen will probably not be happy
I see Westen finally released video of his new "little" ranger mud truck, he needs a set of K3 train horns like Bruce just put on the trator taxi. Put at least one set behind each fuel tank not sure if there's anything too LOUD for Redneck Science 🤠
I couldn’t tell for sure but it looked like the yokes were out of alignment on the original shaft. That would explain the vibration.
Yokes are probably shot the way the driveshaft fell out without prying or beating.
@@mikebougher3731 I’m sure they are. That whole truck looked to have seen better days. But I’ve always been told if the yokes weren’t aligned then it would vibrate.
@@Thattruckdriver yeah the yokes should be aligned.
@@re9947 It is not Tim's truck.
A drywall square would work well across the frame rails.
yes it would have. !!!! I left mine in Wisconsin .... sadly ...
