Tim you and you and your trucking family make me miss truck driving soooo BAD! I started driving straight out of high school in 86. I ran VA, NC, SC, GA, and FL. Didn't need a CDL back then as a matter of fact they Grandfathered me in with the CDL License. $50 and a 4 hr class and I was good to go. lol. The truck I drove was a CO KW with a V8 Cummins VT 903 Formula with 2 straight stacks and a double wide sleeper. 10 speed Road Ranger transmission. It was an old Brown transport yard truck that my boss purchased at auction. I fell in love with that truck! We painted it black with silver stripes. It was a beast! Jake brake and all. After years of me driving the truck it started getting coolant in the oil and the truck was parked and still sits in the same place today. I was put in a L9000 ford with 250 Cummins and that ended my trucking career! I just wanted to share that with you and say that I really enjoy your channel and I guess once you are a truck driver it never leaves you. I went to college after trucking and have been a machinist now for 20+ years and I enjoy it but trucking started it all for me and I'd be lying if i said I don't miss it sometimes. Keep up the awesome content Tim I really enjoy seeing what you guys go thru making a living as truckers. Much respect to you and your trucking family!
I worked at a log trucking company between 2001 & 2004 doing their tire work. All of the tire manufacturers at the time recommended that we run our drive tires at 80psi & our steers at 90psi. These were for 11.00x24.5 tires. We also ran the single low pro 11.00x22.5 tires on the drop axles at 90psi. The company was even a preferred carrier in Oregon, meaning that they were trusted enough to drive by all of the weigh stations both loaded & empty. We even did tire research tests for Goodyear, Michelin, & Bandag retreading, so they were completely in the loop with developing the pressure recs. Pretty sure if you can run an 80-90K pound load on those pressures in the big tires that 85psi in unloaded 17.5's will be just fine.

It's amazing how a little polishing compound and elbow grease can take a truck looking like it needs to be painted to damn near looking like new again. I have also had a similar experience with D.O.T. however in NZ they are called CVST, commercial vehicle safety team. Pulled me over at the side of an expressway and carried out his inspection. I spent 40 minutes listening to his BS. He told me that he wasn't going to be happy until our company was out of business. I was fined for log book infringements and my boss was summoned to court for some trumped up charge. The judge threw it out and the officer received an order that prohibited him from approaching any of our trucks. Now any time I see him waiting on the side of the road I scoot pass, smile and wave.
God squad you mean, sounds rather exaggerated as a judge cant enforce an officer to not pull over a fleet of vehicles. Dont let w lie get in the way of a good story though….Fellow Kiwi FYI.
That oxidized paint cleaned up great … Truck looks new thru the video .. And I’d put a GreenAPU on it Tim .. saves on fuel and wear and and tear at idling .. you just need them 100% for the heat in the south in the summer and cold in the winter further north .. Heck had my block heater plugged in when that winter storm hit that froze all across Texas Oklahoma etc and that APU saved my hide .. Trucks stuck in the ice that couldn’t move running out of fuel from idling but that APU kept everything warm and toasty and sipped the fuel..…

Keep you a cpl bottle of Lucas Slick Mist,always used it on my truck as well as my personal vehicle,you can spray it on a dry or wet rig,Spray it on and wipe it off,helps the wax last longer and gives it a nice sheen:-)

Good morning Tim. If your state has state inspection for vehicles especially for trucks, go and take that course and get the inspection license. When you have a inspection license you can repair anything or singe off on anything they find wrong. And then they will let you alone because they can't make any money off of you. I carried Pa state inspection license and the Md officer who did the DOT inspection didn't want me too go through his inspection bay because they couldn't make any money off of me or the company that I worked for.
AZ DOT isn't any better...got pulled over by the same officer 2 days apart, had a copy of my clean inspection form from him...his answer..."things break in 2 days, so I'm still going to inspect you" It just made his bad attitude even worse. You're right, these guys need to be called out....like Officer R. Lopez, AZDOT Marana AZ area
These officers can be very difficult if they have had problems elsewhere some bring it to the job in a lifetime in trucking have run into bad ones they are out there only advise try to be as safe as these people want it helps a lot do wish at times could use the hammer of life on the offender just kidding
@@terrycormier5492 if I can leave my issues at home and do my job, so can that man with a gun and a badge...I just deliver gasoline and diesel fuel, they can shut us down anytime, it's their word against ours...and the court system is 90% on their side....they all feed from the same troughs. Safety in trucking, especially HAZMAT is paramount, but to run rough-shot to make quotas is harassment. I actually like an inspection now and then, I drive the same truck everyday, and a second set of eyes to find defects that I may have missed is a good thing. AZDOT has gone crazy, worse than Banning by leaps and bounds.
All of the state police and dot officers are required to have so many interactions during an hour or per shift. So many warnings, so many citations etc. Until the higher up and government bodies running these money traps are removed you’ll always have this type of bullcrap.
Man, that glider is popping, with that buff job. Your other uncle is making a great engine stand. You have some very handy men in your family. You made a good investment on that truck, and like Larry says in about 3 runs and it will pay for itself. It was so nice to see you and the whole family together. Those precious memories are priceless.
You should look into getting permits for a paint booth before you purchase one. Different municipalities have different rules and there is many requirements to have a paint booth. I know of numerous people who purchased paint booths but were unable to get them permitted and had to sell them at a loss.

I know you can't show us everything you do. So it was nice to see a working truck being worked on and I have to say I'm amazed by how much the red popped on the Weston meaning it's worth it to take care of your vehicle because it will take care of you when you need it to. I wouldn't want to be in the DOT officer's shoes on the stretch of I 40 he works on because word will travel fast over the CB network I promise you that.
Tim, when it comes to paint jobs, we tend to measure them in feet. A show truck might have a 3 foot paint job and a work truck a 25 foot paint job, from 25 feet away you won't see any flaws. As for the problem scale. The farm equipment dealership I worked at had an ancient Mack. It was set up with a female coupler on the air tank. It would allow us to run an impact wrench out on a pickup if needed. You could set your trucks up the same way, put a 50 foot self-coiling hose with an air chuck with gauge in the truck and if their were any doubts, correct the pressure right then and there. It would be hard for them to argue if you corrected any problem right in front of them.
Can do the same thing with a glad hand air house but it does sound like officer is doing whatever he can just to cost money personally I would a local attorney that's familiar with dot or will learn it and avoid that scale and every time you are at that scale and get Inspected have the drivers record everything from first contact to leaveing so that any mistake done can be turned in and create as much paperwork for them as possible they already have a lot and do not want more and there are laws where you can record on public property and any government official while performing there duty and with putting it on RUclips can be argued about being on a news outlet and being protected by freedom of press sorry for the long responce

Dude I thought they were painting that red truck, it took me a few minutes to realize he was buffing it. I thought man that paint job looks good, oh wait a minute he buffed that chalk off? Damn!!!!

I know you can't show us everything you do. So it was nice to see a working truck being worked on and I have to say I'm amazed by how much the red popped on the Weston meaning it's worth it to take care of your vehicle because it will take care of you when you need it to. I wouldn't want to be in the DOT officer's shoes on the stretch of I 40 he works on because word will travel fast over the CB network I promise you that.
Tim, when it comes to paint jobs, we tend to measure them in feet. A show truck might have a 3 foot paint job and a work truck a 25 foot paint job, from 25 feet away you won't see any flaws. As for the problem scale. The farm equipment dealership I worked at had an ancient Mack. It was set up with a female coupler on the air tank. It would allow us to run an impact wrench out on a pickup if needed. You could set your trucks up the same way, put a 50 foot self-coiling hose with an air chuck with gauge in the truck and if their were any doubts, correct the pressure right then and there. It would be hard for them to argue if you corrected any problem right in front of them.
But it's ALL the tires...and it sounds like they can require a Tech to sign off on it before back in service is allowed
Can do the same thing with a glad hand air house but it does sound like officer is doing whatever he can just to cost money personally I would a local attorney that's familiar with dot or will learn it and avoid that scale and every time you are at that scale and get Inspected have the drivers record everything from first contact to leaveing so that any mistake done can be turned in and create as much paperwork for them as possible they already have a lot and do not want more and there are laws where you can record on public property and any government official while performing there duty and with putting it on RUclips can be argued about being on a news outlet and being protected by freedom of press sorry for the long responce
