Fun fact: I was supposed to have a guitar lesson with Tom. We arranged to have it on the first day of one of their tours in Manchester but he had to cancel last minute (I was literally pulling up outside the academy with my guitar when I got his message) because the day was so hectic. We were messaging back and forth and I got a free t-shirt from the merch stall instead as an apology. I look back on that memory quite fondly. I still have all of his messages saved, the day that I almost got a guitar lesson from my idol. Crazy to think..
There's something just so cool about how you hadn't tracked the chorus vocals at this point. hearing these songs as a work in progress is wild, knowing how famous and influential they've become
Thanks for uploading another video of that recording day !!! You were, you are and you will be my greatest musical inspiration on the planet! It would be lovely to have you still among us
No matter how many times I rewatch this it always fills me with inspiration and reminds me that he's never really gone, and to never give up no matter how tough life gets. I will never not love this video and I will never not look up to this man who I may never have met, but has left a lifelong impression on me. I truly feel for Dan and all his friends and family.
I'll add to the comments of saying thank-you for uploading this video. I'd class myself as a pretty long term fan of the band and being a guitarist who was inspired to much by Toms writing and playing, having these rare glimpses is a real privilege.
couldnt agree more. my greatest heartbreak in my career as a guitarist was after i got introduced to them a couple of months ago, i didnt know the backstory of the band. I just clicked real hard with "Match" and "GWTW", so i went to Amazon and bought their entire catalog. After devoting so much time to learning the music, and learning his style, I wanted to know more about them. Nothing had breathed life into my playing for years, until i heard "Match" for the first time, so I wanted to know as much about the guitarist Tom as I could. then when I searched his name, and saw that he had passed away just a couple years ago........ ive never felt so gutted in my life. My biggest inspiration that Ive found since starting to play 2 decades ago, and in a flash my world got demolished. It was like I had been walking in a dark cave for years with no light.... then someone tosses me a white phosphorous grenade named Architects that went off and lit the cave up to such amazing detail, but then flickered out a few moments later. anyone who has had the opportunity to meet Tom, I am so jealous of.
0:25 .... i love the second time through he did a variation to correct a mistake, but i wish he wouldve left the correction where he bounced back and forth. sounds neat as hell
@@SvgShoot3R it was either a goof up mistake, or at least an "improvisation on the backend of an experiment".... watch Toms face. He plays it right the first time through, but on the second go round he lost his place and improvised. Watch Tom's cheeky grin where he looks over at them while hes playing it. 0:23 - 0:27 the riff that made it to the album and is repeated twice. 0:285 - 0:31 the little improv riff he threw in there while smiling at the guys across the room.
Its relieving to see him messing up on the same parts as me, that picking pattern in the chorus gets busy towards the end and the vocals kinda throw you off too.
Has anyone noticed that Sam’s vocals on this track sound different than we have in the final version? I mean you can clearly hear it from 3:17 till the end of the song
it's a combo of 4 amps to get the quad tracked guitars. One pair is EVH III (Engl Cab) with preamp out send into a 5150 (Marshall Cab) Then the other pair is a combo of a Diezel Herbert (probably Engl Cab) together with a Mesa Boogie Dual Rect(Mesa Cab)
Dunlop strings, with 11, 15, 22w, 36, 42, 60 and 11, 15, 22w, 36, 42, 70 custom sets (for C# standard and the same tuning with the bottom string tuned down to G# respectively)
Scratch vocals are always different. First step in recording a song(at least the way my buddy joe does it), is tracking scratch guitars. Then the excruciating process of tracking drums is undertaken. Then comes guitar, then comes bass, then comes vocals. In this case scratch vocals seem to have been tracked
I think Tom passed before holy hell was recorded. The band struggled with the loss of Tom and wasmt sure if they would continue as a band without Tom. I have a vinyl of holy hell that says "for tom" on it. I believe the whole record was written in Tom's memory. He is a god

I don't know how I'm just seeing this, but I'm sure glad I did. RIP Tom. This is my favorite song by them.
RIP Tom Searle! Still unmatched with riffs and chuggs. Truly my greatest inspiration in guitar playing and writing. ❤️
Tom still remains a legend!
tfw his horrendously sloppy warmup is better than me on a good day
I love this. Tom's pocket is forever unmatched. singular. thanks for sharing, Henrik.

It is genuinely tragic how young he went with so much passion and talent for music, rest in peace ❤️

I feel so privileged to share a birthday with such a talented inspirational person like he is.
And with Dan!
Me too haha!

That sound is glory to my ears... Thanks bro. Rest in peace.
Forever in the memory, Tom. With love from Moscow.
This tone is perfection
Absolutely agreed
such a pain in the ass song to play but damn such a tasty riff

Tom has been such an inspiration to my playing...words can't even begin to describe. Thank you for sharing.
Back here again. Such a talent.
Спасибо тебе Том за все что ты сделал для architects и метал музыки!

I deeply miss this man's riffing.
Tom will be missed
this songs so brutal when playing on a long scale guitar lol
Dude you can hear the anger in his guitar. He could make it scream.
Would love to see more, even with the rest of the band. But only if you got 'em.
Warm up in heaven
Thank you so much for this video!!
Happy birthday Tom!
Such a fun song to play it’s unreal.
I bet, I wanna learn it. What’s the tuning?

That was incredible.

Miss you Tom!

This is so awesome. Do you have any more videos? 😯
Thanks for the upload!
What a guy 💙
Any clue what guitar he's using in this clip? It appears to be a Mayones, but I'm not sure which model.
How we miss you…
Thank you for posting this
I never new the pitch bend on the open string was done above the nut

It’s the demo vocals. Normal procedure is to track vocals last and they’re tracking guitar here :)
Hey Henrik 🤙 do you remember roughly what his settings were on the EVH 5150 iii...? Not much low heaps of mid and highs and presence..? Resonance..?
If you want to know his settings on lost forever//lost together, someone put them in the comments if you look through a few.
Soo good!

Definitely unique but the tuning becomes limiting to a point. Abuse the octave and don't look back basically.

DId you record Holy Hell with Architects too?
