It's important to remember the ONLY reason this is being talked about is because jordan has a decent RUclips following, was able to crowd fund and draw enough attention it to get some backlash to happen. If this happened to any of us, we'd have been crushed by legal fees, have to just accept what the police was doing and no politicians would've known about it.

The question being dismissed (or rather acknowledged and not responded adequately) regarding concerns of the department overstepping and the difficulty of how the general public can scrutinise those actions, really speaks to the level of rot and corruption our government is experiencing. It is a shameful display.

As someone who has worked in government, I humbly submit that the Attorney General was lying through his teeth when saying he hadn't been briefed on the Kristo Langker prosecution. That's exactly the type of issue politicians insist on being fully informed.
A freedom of information request on his departmental advice should clarify whether he lied to a parliamentary enquiry.

I agree. I know I put in a complaint about the whole thing last year to Speakman. If he (or his chief of staff) didn't bother reading my complaint, then they're wilfully ignorant. I know they would've had briefings when this sort of shit comes out.

The thing is he was asked about these same things in November and used the same excuse back then. Even if he knew nothing in November I reckon he would haver been fully briefed within an hour of leaving the hearings. It is obvious he is lying.

If there was any government body as effective as FJ for bringing corruption to light we would live in a different country.
The ONLY reason this is being discussed at a parliamentary level is because of the work and sacrifice of the friendlyjordies team and in my opinion the Australian nation owes them a debt of gratititude for whatever results from this enquiry, because it looks like some rats are going to be dislodged from their nests.
It's long been known that the house of parliament is a den of thieves and miscreants posing as civil servants and we are well overdue for a flush. It's time the public demanded some integrity and transparency and this passing the buck onto the private sector needs to stop. The attitude of the attorney general is gross "it's not my job" was the cry, if it's not his job then what is? "I don't have the resources to look at every case so therefore I will look at none". It's bullshit!
It makes me so fucking angry that these people do nothing except bandy words and dodge responsibility when the corruption is plain as day.

It's also insane to me that Mark can time and time again state that he "Has not been briefed to his knowledge" on the matter at hand, despite being informed of and stating he would look into the matter 5 months ago and knowing full well that it would be brought up again.
His statement of I haven't discussed this with my colleagues but in the same breath stating that he has engaged in the discourse through social media implies that the case had some amount of interest for him as it has had little to no media coverage yet given his position he never thought to look into the matter further/be briefed on the matter/discuss it with his colleagues. This is just insanity and we quite clearly need some changes but that is just my two cents.

We can rightfully assume he has had ample preparation time, with a good understanding of what will be asked of him, but like last time, nearly every question is either deflected or taken on notice. Any answers he did give were broad and worthless.

The takeout from this is - The Attorney General doesn't give a shit about police lies, abuse of courts, and framing of defendants via witness coaching and evidence fabrication. The get out clause is that the innocent can complain to an independent body which will then arbitrarily choose 3% of complaints to investigate and allow the illegal acts in the other 97% to stand. The result in the 3% will invariably clear the police to continue their abuses unaffected. Only if people have money do they have any hope of redress, allowing the smarmy AG to sleep easy at night and collect his pay packet for doing jack shit..

If a witness in court subsequently speaks to witnesses who are yet to give evidence, this should be picked up by court staff, and if not, volunteered to the court by the witness. The usual procedure is then for the judge to consider a mis-trial. The reason for this is that any conviction can be appealed using the argument that the court cannot be absolutely sure what was said and therefore cannot prove there was no influence.
In this case there seems to be a double standard with the opinion being along the line of "Talking to witnesses is OK because we can't be sure of what was being said".
    I don't think a judge would agree.

Literally every single official who has been questioned on this says the same line "I have not been briefed and have been paying little attention to the media coverage". They all want plausible deniability for why they did not investigate corrupt or improper conduct.
And that's because they have no intention to *EVER* investigate corrupt or inappropriate conduct. In my opinion that's the other half of this entire scandal. This is classic government department behaviour. When the workload is low, the justification for continuing to fund the department comes under question, and so it is up to the department to 'make work for itself', in order to continue to justify its existence. In Australia, we've had relatively few terror attacks, by fortune or perhaps because of the work of other anti-terror units more competent than this one, and so the existence of a unit such as this, with all the funding that goes with it, comes under scrutiny. You see this in government departments around the world - it's not unusual behaviour to want to secure your own existence, and comes back to the basic Darwinism of organisations, which is the need to survive at all costs. I suspect that the willingness of this department to be of use to Mr Barilaro, and way way out of its remit, runs along these lines. No-one is questioning the need for departments such as these to be created; the problem is therefore to find a way to secure the existence of departments without them needing to resort to creating work for themselves in this way, which is clearly not in their remit, and in the process, trample over the basic tenets of a democracy, free speech and the principle of a free press, which has clearly happened in this case.
As for coaching witnesses in a court, and running back and forth between the case and the witnesses, well, if that's what was happening, that just takes it to whole new level.

Government and Police transparency is best thought of like this - take a sheet of a very transparent material, such as glass. Keep continually adding layers upon layers upon layers, until the refraction and impurities between the layers obscure the vision so far that you can't see what's on the other side of all the layers.
Every layer can claim to be perfectly transparent, and yet through all those layers you can't see whats going on on the other side.

I couldn't handle it like Searle. Five minutes into talking to him and I'd be unable to stop myself from just saying "Are you taking the piss? This is one of the largest, most important cases of the past year and you're repeatedly telling me that you as the first law officer haven't taken the time out of your oh so busy day to get acquainted with even the barest matter of the case? A twelve your old child could see how contemptuous you are, and how obsessed you are with dodging these questions with replies that are, if not blatant lies, indications that you should not hold the position you do. Five months ago you dodged everything with the same claim of ignorance. It's your job to fucking know. If you don't know, it shouldn't be your job."

The fact that this minister has every capability to refer the police misconduct to the LEC and is choosing not to because a private citizen “might” choose to submit their own complaint is a joke. Sorry minister can no more than one complaint be submitted to the LEC regarding a particular matter? What a ridiculous sentiment. Is the LEC only have the resourcing to examine 2-3% of all submissions he would know that a submission from him as the attorney general would get investigated asap. They’re all in bed together and no one wants to hold anyone accountable. Disappointing for NSW taxpayers.

There is a fundamental problem with the government model of criminality. There is no responsibility, and never will be, for making people answer false charges. At best the rest of the taxpayers compensate the defense lawyers (but not the defendants) for their time. But the stress, loss of reputation, disordering of your life and time is never going to be compensated unless it's an obvious frame up, and usually not then. If it is compensated, again the taxpayers are the ones who pay, not the perpetrator.

Awesome, exactly the level of concern for public safety and integrity of the entire criminal court system that you'd hope to see from the responsible official... /s
It's now officially too politically dangerous to show appropriate concern and make any kind of promise to get to the bottom of things ... for fear of appearing to lend credence to the accusations - that's how hard they are trying to hose this down and hope the fire will go out. Pathetic.

I think he knows how much this stinks and is trying to hide behind a plea of ignorance when that is a clearly an indefensible position for him to adopt. He should not be claiming to not know.
