Well I'm crying now. Young folks have absolutely NO IDEA how huge Dale Earnhardt was for the sport of Nascar.
I'm 25, and the first race I remember seeing was this one. Of course, I was too young to fully comprehend it at the time, but I now know that Dale Earnhardt _was_ NASCAR. He was the root of the whole tree, and when he passed on, the sport passed with him, it just took awhile for all the leaves to fall off.

I'm 29 years old and Dale's death was the first real experience of mortality for me. I simply couldn't process in my young mind that he was gone after it happened. I remember my dad being upset and then the news that night but it just didn't seem real. We'd watched Nascar together since I could remember and Dale Earnhardt was the one consistent in all that and him being gone was like a part of my childhood erased in an instant.
Dale would've turned 70 this past Friday. Hard to believe it's been 21 years. Still miss his presence. RIP Intimidator!

2:03 "you dont want to come down here and catch the apron" whew. He turned left and when he got grip on that apron it shot him right towards the wall. So many odd things were said around the time of his death, hard to look past them all

I've thought for years Dale knew something, like he was a sacrificial lamb. He acted strange the day of the 500, his mannerisms on the grid were somber.
@@kraderrader3444 Yeah I noticed that too the day of the 500, He did a interview the day before and It was even more like that, His final words in the interview the day prior? "Make sure you tune in to the 500 tomorrow, The fans are gonna see something they never seen before" Those might not be exact words but they are really close.
@@VeliusCoba I think dale knew that he was going to do exactly what he did for Jr and Mike that day. He had his 500 and he had accomplished pretty much all he was ever going to accomplish. He was just planning to “pass the torch” with the win for DEI. He didn’t care that it wasn’t him. It was probably the first time in his career he didn’t care if he won or not. I DON’T think he had any inkling he’d lose his actual life. It was all about Mikey and Jr. And in the end it went further than anyone ever imagined.
Nascar has never been the same. RIP

Watching that reminds me of how good Dale Sr. would have been in the booth. He was at the point where he was okay letting the camera see his goofy side and truly having fun, he would have provided amazing content I’m sure.

So did I. I couldn’t watch Nascar for 2 yrs. Then joined Junior Nation. Glad I did.

Dale was happy and at peace. Miss him everyday. But that’s what I try and focus on. He made it.

What a man, he ran that interview, TB was just lucky enough to be there. Seems like a normal guy and that's what the sport is missing! You have to be too polished to get a sponsor and have to bring a sponsor to race..

Dale seemed in a different kind of mood that weekend.
I got to do 3 laps around Daytona in the #3 car during the Richard Petty Experience. Tony Pender drove and gave it more than aloud! I'm crippled with 2 canes and they knew I was not letting a disability get in the way. Beat experience of my Gearhead life. Street racing since the 60s. Entire different respect after only 3 laps. Soaking wet when it was over. They all teased that they needed the Jaws of life to get my crippled butt out! Great day at wonderful people. RIP Dale. Always be my Gearhead Hero.
R.I.P Earnhardt at least Terry got a memory of a life time. NASCAR hasn't been the same since 2001 . Miss my favorite driver my hero Dale Earnhardt .

The year I was born, but some reason it all feels so familiar, watched Nascar growing up, stopped when Tony Stewart Retired. I miss the "Rockstar" days of Nascar, can't believe I'm talking about Tony Stewart like my dad talked about Richard petty
No Nascar died with Dale so it was already dead when you watched it.
Dale touched everyone. I managed to find on an old phone a photo I had of Dale sitting on Santa Claus lap. I think it was 1994 in New York for his last championship. I lost everything I had but to find it was Wow.

Your phone had a camera in 1994, mine was attached to a phone line still. Only mobile phones were not very good and had no cameras. Maybe I read that wrong not trying to be a dick just confused

This is so fun to watch but at the same time it hurts me cuz you just see how happy Dale really was right before he left us & Richard Childress even said later on that Dale had that look in his eye again during speedweeks that he was so poised on winning his 8th Cup and he definitely showed in 2000 he was back by winning some races & finished 2nd in the points!!Damn we can only imagine but i love this footage just seeing the real man he was & look how he was around Terry's kids that's why I always loved Dale & looked up to him for the things he did out the race car & the real man he was!!!

Dale certainly took this as an audition for a job at Fox. No doubt, about it. Imagine that, the Fox booth from 2002 onwards with that man in it would've been amazing for NASCAR
It effected me at the end with Dale and the little ones. Knowing he would be gone soon. Never forget that day.

I watched this "Live" the morning of... never thought I'd see it again. What they left out was the promo plug Earnhardt did for Fox as a closing line for the segment. He said, (paraphrasing after over 20years), "You're gonna see something today on Fox you aint never seen before!". Sad to sat he could hardly have been more correct.
I'm no Steelers fan. and I was definitely NOT a Dale fan. But the fact can't be denied that those are two of the best at what they did in their careers. I watched this interaction on TV over the week of the race and it seems that Dale and Terry were MADE FOR EACH OTHER. That was a lifetime friendship they built right there.
Dale, you are missed. The sport seriously needs another "intimidator". I can't even watch it, now. Such garbage.
Kurt Busch and his brother Kyle have tried to be intimidators on the track.
But neither Busch is close to being like Dale was.

When I served in Vietnam 🇻🇳 we used to race scooters we would do things to make them faster and faster such as remove weight from them it was a lot of fun miss those days.......
Just shows how Big Terry is standing next to everyone else, Dale losing his life in the race probably hit Terry harder than any defensive NFL player ever did.

I distinctly remember getting to see this segment live just by luck. I remember after the segment, they cut back live to the booth where Terry was and never forget him saying: "that was NOT FUN." because Dale's driving was way too intense. I've never heard someone as lively as Terry be so... intimidated 😉
