Steve Hmiel said it best with that one line. "We can celebrate!"
Everyone might have felt some relief with Kevin's win, but Dale Jr closing the book on that dark day with a win this night, everyone knew it was ok to go on and have fun, if only for a short time until September where Jr would help once more at Dover. Story book stuff that Hollywood couldn't write.

I was there that night with my grandfather. I was screaming the whole time and I was so happy to see him cross that finish line in first. My grandfather passed away the next year, but I had that night with him and I treasure it, now over twenty years later. God bless Dale Earnhardt, Sr and Walt Middleton. I'll see you both in Heaven some day.

I was in Kuwait watching the Daytona 500 the day Dale Sr. lost his life, very sad. Then to return later in the season and watch his son win the very next race at Daytona. My buddies and I were on pins and needles the last few laps, it was absolutely amazing!!

I was at this race as a casual race goer at the time. It was this night that made me the die hard NASCAR fan that I am today. The electricity in this place after his win could power a city. It was an amazing moment in sports history.

As fans we needed this just as much. I dont know any nascar fan at that time that wasnt in tears after that race. I was a Rusty fan and couldnt tell you what he even did throughout the race because like everyone, I was all in on Jr. that night. All of nascar needed that night. Fans, Drivers, Owners, Crews, sponsors, everyone.

I'm not a man of many words, but in this moment the wide world of racing had come full circle. It reminded me of why I enjoy racing so much. It's like a spirit that lives in our hearts, it can't be suppressed.
Not all heros wear capes, some of them chug Budweiser after driving 200 MPH for 3 hours.
And everyone was a fan that night, enjoying, celebrating.. and then the grief was gone.
Happy faces had returned yet again.

I'm not a huge NASCAR fan (I only learned about it three years ago), but that race really struck a cord for me after seeing the documentary "The Day." When Mikey jumped in for Junior, I said, "Oh my God, it's like Han Solo saving Luke in Star Wars!" Hollywood couldn't touch this moment.

Greatest moment in NASCAR history, but let’s not pretend that Dale Earnhardt Junior had an upgrade in his car that no one else did. Even the announcers were stunned that while being in first place, he was running the fastest lap, which is unheard of
