Well, I wouldn't say that it's merely a matter of taste, but that the ocean is so vast, that one rarely knows anything ^^ I'll give you an exemple : I asked a VC member sometime ago what genres he was into, to which I was replied "oh, I'm into everything, classic rock, punk rock, metal, soul, funk, jazz, country, hip hop, blues...". So I had to tell him "ok, so you're into american music" ^^ It's a big and old world, even if it increasingly feel small.
Great post and very timely. I'm having building work on my home and have been keeping my vinyl in their sleeves - so its been CDs for me over the last week. Great choices (particularly your top 3). My friend Simon was at Virgin for the Ambient series, and I've worked with Scanner a couple of times. Great Parmegiani box set! There's so much great music on CD that's not available on vinyl or streaming. The vinyl fundamentalists are missing out on a lot!
Well, the Techno Animal 2XCD from that ambient series is getting a 4XLP issue in September, so fundamentalism is still in the horizon 😅 so great that you worked with Robin! Can you tell the story a little more?
Aha! Good to see Techno Animal on Top 1, because it's one of my favorite ambient records. Since then Kevin Martin always had a special place in my depths. I recently reconnected with several obsessive listenings after listening "return to solaris" that he launched 2 or 3 years ago. This one is not as good as “Re-Entry” but with somepassages they made me connect with this purgatory of peace again. Thanks to share Stunty! For me there is new stuff to get into…
Yes, Return to Solaris was decent, but I did not feel anything unique about it, so I skipped it. I know I will give it another chance, eventually, though. The purgatory of peace, I like that idea.
Auguste, I'm never going back, but I'm happy I have the ones I have. there's a dozen CDs I've been curious about in the past few years, but I said no. I even gaveup on NWW CDs!
A Stunty Video! And showing CDs too. Alot of obscure picks of course. I do like some Naked City. Just got a CD by them for thr first time this year. Thought you were going to show Porter Ricks - Techno Animal for a minute.
Porter Rick Techno Animal exists on Vinyl, and i have it, and it is nowhere near as good as Re-Entry. Check it out! It is actually getting issued on wax in the fall!
Hi! Never expected you own any cd ;) Imo there's nothing against cds. Especially these time vinyl is so expensive and cds have a good price. OLD - what nice. I found their album "the musical dimensions of sleastak" on a sell out table in a warehouse somewhere in early mid 90s. No idea what the music was, I really bought that album because of the cover. And I still like this album and it's weird. More weird. And cool. I still like it after almost 30 years or so. The Jon Hassel album is so relaxed. A wonderful work. Very recommended. Albums I listen very often Coil - Love secret's domain (I still hear new sound in the songs after hundred time of listening - headphones is a must. And to be honest: I like to listen to it as a whole. No stops because of change the side) Sonic Youth - Dirty (when I became deaf: this is the reason) Download - The eyes of Stanley Pain (what a weird and creative album of this "supergroup") Godspeed you black emporer - lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven ( double album with four songs; Cinemascope vision as music) Clash Holger Czukay vs. Dr Walker - live USA (just another cool electronic album. Weird groove) Actually I didn't hear them often the last times. There's some much more stuff. But these are few of my personal again-and-again classics.
HerrTelef, yes, too many CDs, hahaha. OLD is such a weird band, and that record I showed even weirder in their discography. The Hassell record is almost the definition of relaxed, although, htere is an underlying tension, that brings the darkness. Funnily enough, hte two songs from the LSD CD that were omitted for the original vinyl release I do not miss. It brings lots of memories, but of their stuff after Evol, I now favor EJST&NStar. DOwnload, I have those CDs, I dread putting them on again, hahaha. Thanks for sharing your heavy rotations!
Love the CD only list. I too love vinyl, but have a soft spot for CD's and stuff that didn't get a vinyl release. I also appreciate the more "pop" picks. I love weird/out music, but it's nice to hear the more indie/pop stuff you like, ie Carmine which I hadn't heard. That's right up my alley. Cheers
Yes, for me, if a CD never came out on vinyl and just recently has, I don't count it as a true vinyl release because it was a complete afterthought. I personally don't care about having an album on record that never was released on that format back in the day. (In my opinion, to say that about records not being on CD originally is a totally different thing.) I have a decent collection of records and CD's and the CD's get way more play because they're more convenient, as it appears that's the same case with Stunty.

Someone has to I suppose. 😆
Has to what?
Take care. Bruno
