As a special needs man, it is best for me working with a Toronto Ontario company protecting all special needs men and women, including sexually harassed women as that option I explain as an example and reason. The truth is no employer in any multi-million dollar company shall ever criticize, objectify, including harass, belittle, intimidate, infringe, and transgress any special needs man or woman in anyway shape and form, including me. This is because I rather work in a unionized, truthful, loyal, honest, and reasonable multi-million dollar Toronto Ontario company even as a special needs man.
Yes, this is how I feel I've been working for the county for 20 years and it's so abusive I don't give a s*** about my benefits or seniority anymore I worry about my health and I don't give a s*** if I lose money
I’d love some feedback…taught for over 20 years then left when Covid began…only returned because couldn’t find a job that paid enough for me to find an apartment (long story, had to find housing after an accident). Car died 4 weeks ago and I tried every mode of transport to get me there for the last month of school. Bus puts me 4 miles from destination and walking wouldn’t get me to work on time, biking is dangerous because I won’t have access to any sidewalks, scooters are a no go for same reason and poor terrain. Tried asking coworkers but none live near me and I’m just not that person to reach out to everyone because people can be quite flaky. Literally asking myself if I should resign at end of year because car sharing will end up eating up my check long term 5 days a week to and from and I don’t know when I’ll get another car. Is this a deal breaker or am I missing something that might work. Thanks!
@@unnatigupta8141 What is your overall situation? Yes, but you can also quit today. From my personal experience there is never really going to be a good time to quit. The longer you stay there, the harder it may become to quit. When things are super bad at a particular job, and you are filled with anxiety. Can't sleep or eat properly etc.. It is best to just leave. I recently quit a toxic job, with no backup or another job lines up. I have zero regrets.
I quit my job this morning. No prospects. I can go a few months without a pay check. That's the beauty of saving. I feel so liberated. When I breathe I can actually feel the pressure released from my body.
Don't you just love it? I did the same thing - this past Friday was my last day. I realized I had enough saved up to equal a year at my current rate of pay (and then when I compared it to my take home it was even longer), by which time I can cash out my pension savings. If I am smart with my money I can last until May 2023, which gives me plenty of time to look for a good job without having to settle for the first thing that comes along.
I'm thinking about doing this, or at least taking an unpaid sabbatical. Fed up of my very line of work and don't even want the same role at another employer. I want a complete change but at 34 years old it's too late. You will be competing with 21-22 year olds fresh off the boat as it were.
@@mxbx307 I made a complete change at 48. I had never worked in banking before and before I was 50 I had a position I really loved - until new leadership let accountability slip and toxic personalities have their way. Believe me, 34 isn't too late by far. One thing you've got that no 22 year old kid does, is years of experience in the work force. Even if it's not directly related to whatever you do next, kids that age are green and while they might be very well educated they're yet to learn how to apply work skills in the real world.
Same situation. Presented my letter as "health reasons" , which is not entirely a lie, I was suffering from chronic back pain that wasn't letting me sleep at night, but truly, I just didn't want to be there another second, all boxes above checked. Hope you find something better.
Yes!! Every morning asking the Lord for strength to get through the day!!! I literally wakeup 30 minutes earlier than schedule just to do this. Thinking of my toxic manager and how to avoid him. 😔
Yep lots of rotten attitudes in the work place it can be so toxic. Sometimes you just have to make a change and get out of there and find non rotten people to work with and for.
I quit a toxic job recently. There was someone who had a seizure and he came back a few weeks later. Fast forward he ended up in hospice and passing away about a month after that. The company replaced him almost immediatly and they even ended up SELLING company. Moral of the story, Do what you love. Life is too short.
I’ve always said the job doesn’t care if you live or die so long as the work gets done, if not by you then by someone else. While your family is making funeral arrangements, your job posting will be accepting applications. Your boss doesn’t care that you’re gone.
😢That could be me. That could be any of us really. You are just a number to them, a set of hands. They care not one iota about any of us and we're all absolutely replaceable.
Back in August of 2023, a coworker I was working with was having stomach issues and they found out later on that she had masses in her stomach and then she went into organ failure a month after going on medical leave. I was one of the last people to find out that she passed away and my boss called my dad telling him and my dad ended up telling me that she passed away. I was upset because because everybody else knew before me and my boss couldn't even tell me himself. Soon we had a memorial service at our job while customers were still there. My manager was going on about how "we are a family". In one shift my manager was saying about how my coworker would have wanted for us to go on and to keep improving our sales goal. When your boss says that you guys are family, that is translation of you're only as useful to was until you're not! Your boss is not your friend and most the time your co-workers are sheeps in wolves clothing looking for a chance to get you fired so they can have your position! Not long afterwards, I noticed that things were not the same and afterwards, I would say maybe 2 weeks to a month later we started seeing more new employees. November 2023 I got injured and had no other choice but to go on medical leave because my injury that was unrelated to work and it was so bad I was having excruciating numbness and tingling and then I started getting crippling anxiety from the pain and I was also thinking about how I let my boss and my coworkers down. My mom basically ended up being my caregiver until recently now that I am recovering. My mom went to my boss to hand them a doctor's note and said to him that if I do go back then I can't be climbing ladders for the next couple months and he told her that if I can't climb ladders and not 100% better than I shouldn't come back. I realize from that point on, I started questioning if I really wanted to work there anymore because it's not like I was asking for much other than not climbing ladders because it is a retail shop. Also corporate has gotten more greedy and before I got injured I started getting increasingly bad anxiety and depressive episodes. It's so strange that basically three or four of the five years I was working there, bad things with randomly happened with my health where I would either end up in the hospital or in a mental institution.... I'm pretty certain that even if I do decide to go back then I need to start putting my physical and mental health first and I'll probably be job hunting. I don't care if it pays less at this point because my job put so much stress on us to sell unrealistic sale goals and when we don't meet them, a lot of my co-workers end up losing hours. When my boss is not here, we have to fight in order for the managers to get us $5 bills and then we get yelled at by customers when things are out of our control. Then we have to take a monthly course about stealing when their rules literally say that there is nothing we can do about customers stealing even not even calling the police despite seeing evidence that they are stealing. Why should we have to suffer for something we can't control? We even have to wear clear purses or bags and be patted down. I work in a retail store not a security place! They are also the type of business that believes the customer is always right no matter what!
@ttx3 What? That is not capitalism. Capitalism is where the individual owns the means of production. How is the original story in line with capitalism? Go work at the DMV (government job) and see if you get treated any better. You are complaining about human nature, and somehow attributing it to capitalism. It makes no sense.
I actually got *chewed out* for doing good things! I told management that "Raymond," an obese and chronically constipated man who lived in one of the group homes, had made a beeline for the produce section and picked out asparagus and bok choi, saying he wanted to have them again, and chose a head of napa cabbage, asking if we could try it. This got me scolded for "forcing" Raymond to eat foods I liked! What part of "He picked out the vegetables and asked if we could buy them" were they missing?
Working during this virus.. had a coworker that had it and my other co workers almost caught it, we were/still overworked, got chewed out, have 1/2 rude coworker and still no hazard pay or Atleast a Christmas bonus my one coworker quit on the spot after she witness some things, and after that cut my hours down due to “ lost of money” which is a lie we have been getting more money since the virus and still, so I’ll be handing in my 2 weeks notice in 2 weeks
It’s that 60 minutes clock on that news show…yeah I used to hear that as a kid and I hated school so that ticking clock just filled me with dread. I get that same feeling as an adult on Sunday night. It sucks and fills me with so much anxiety. My job pays well but it’s so stressful and so much stuff that should be simple just aren’t. Why can’t I just print a purchase order and it not be a dang 5 minute process. This should be a click click situation but it just isn’t.
I’m in the middle of a 2day board meeting and I am going to quit at the conclusion of the meeting. For the past 2 months I’ve lived through a toxic queen bee office set up and a totally unapproachable crappy boss. My health has been completely affected. I don’t know how anyone could be successful in my position.
@@ginnyrust6874 Don't do it. The best thing you can do is this: For the next two weeks, wake up very early, be the first one there, and DO ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING that they require you to do. Go "above and beyond", even be respectful and passive with your enemies. Be what THEY WANT YOU TO BE, then "SUDDENLY" QUIT. It's the best revenge. (****Because if they see you angry and not performing, you're actually doing them a favor by quitting.)
I forgot to mention above that two people had quit the job I talked about just before I got hired. One was there for two years, the other a matter of months. I didn't see the red flag at the time.
People often feel guilty about leaving a job because they don't want to disappoint their boss or co-workers, or they feel like they are screwing the company over or what if they can't find someone to fill my spot etc. but here is the thing, if the tables were turned, and getting rid of you helped their bottom line, they would do it in a heart beat. Your employer is not your friend. Your employer is not a charity. They don't pay you out of the kindness of their hearts. They pay you because you work for them. Your relationship is transactional. You owe them nothing other than the hours you work and that's it. Most companies will even throw loyal and seasoned employees under the bus to save their bottom line. It happens all the time. So NEVER feel guilty about leaving a job.
Another problem is that you really can't talk about a toxic job you just left because potential employers will think you're just a whiner and won't want to hire you. There seems to be no way to expose these companies and their bad management practices.
But they do get their karma, my former US parent company ripped off $$$$$ by AL-Quaeda, feds came a knocking, lots illegalities got exposed by lowlife boss, she got caught stealing lots $$$$$$...she lost EVERYTHING house, all $ accounts, investment license, -shes a felon !! 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Just say you left because their values didn't match your own. Vague enough to send the message but not specific enough it can come back to you. I tend to take the high ground on it
I know what you mean, but I left a really toxic company and I have a hard time NOT talking about it. I suffered a lot of abuse at my former employer and I watched it take its toll on many others. I tried to help some of them but they turned on me after a time and I began to realize that I was experiencing the same symptoms as they were. I even quit and got hired by another employer who was just as bad! I finally got hired by a company who seems to care about their employees and it's having a positive effect on my well being.
When ur driving to your job and u start praying to get into a car accident and either die or go into a long coma that is when u know its time to leave ur job.
I had this feeling driving home every day. I would always try to start the day on a good note and have a good attitude, but the job sucked the life from me. Glad I'm out now
Those bad bosses are usually narcissists. They don't treat everyone badly. They pick and choose their victims. I think that must be why most people do not see it. Only the victims of their abuse.
I’ve had that happen to me.. they thought because I was quiet and kept to myself that I was considered weak. Little did she know you don’t mess with a Sagittarius! And funny enough, I know how to argue back with a calm voice and demeanor so I don’t get myself in trouble.
Agreed! I developed IBS and my knees gave out from all the pent up stress and anxiety at my old job. I got laid off and both those things went away or got immediately better.
@@yosy19 i am glad you got better! I developed an auto-immune disease. When i was in that hell i quit before finding a new job. I eventually found a good job where i am treated like a human being. But i still have to live with the disease. Oh well. At least i am in a nice place now. Take care!
@@FireAnt376 No. I worked at a corporation famous for printing equipment and lap tops. The one with a blue logo. Or "How Pathetic". They really treat employees bad, despite their good reputation.
The real problem is the simple fact that most jobs out there are toxic and not as humane as they should be. That’s why more people are becoming independent more than ever.
Couple that with people becoming way softer than we ever were. Everyone thinks they are owed and entitled the sweet life, even if they're flipping burgers on a part time basis.
When you go home, it takes so long to relax from the stress of your day that it ruins your night too & you know the next day will start the stress all over again

@@shawngibson7514 I don't know what t-shirt you read that on, but I was taught that professionals show respect, even if you don't like each other. That's the only way business places can ever function, considering the odd mix of people working 40+ hours together. You don't have to earn respect to be treated with respect. Strangers respect each other. Customer reps respect customers, even rude ones. Of course that respect is doled out in the domain of self-respect. Respect doesn't mean being a doormat or ignoring disrespect. You don't return hate for hate, or disprespect for disrepect, otherwise you contribute to the cycle.
@@betsybarnicle8016 This is the dumbest combination of words I have read in several days. Strangers don't respect each other. Nobody respects an unruly/rude customer. You don't need to have respect for a person to be their coworker and do your job as well as anyone else. My best guess is you don't know what respect is and that is likely due to you not being a person deserving of receiving it due to your thinking respect is automatic and mandatory.
I have been unemployed for 9 months. I don't know if it was the best decision but I will say I eat and I sleep better. And I'm running again and I can walk.
As a RN ,I have had three co workers commit suicide. I have had to deal with things that are beyond any ones imagination. Just last week a co worker broke down and sat crying in the hallway because the work load an environment is unrealistic and unacceptable. Working non stop for 8 - 12 hours. No lunch, breaks and mandatory double and triple shifts. The conditions nurses work under are illegal but no one cares !
Maria Briley I somewhat disagree. It’s patient ratios and short staffing causing the problems. Washington State Nurses Association fought back against the Wash St Govt when the Govt wanted to change to 8 hr shifts bc nurses weren’t getting their breaks. Sure, some Inpatient nurses want 8 hour shifts but the majority want 12. I will agree that 12s is more likely to cause burnout with short staffing, staying late, and not getting breaks. On the contrary it provides a better continuity for patients and more days off during the week. There is a deeper rooted issue in the profession that is burning nurses out and causing them to quit or leave their career path altogether. What I have learned in my time is it is a country (ie England, never going back) or regional issue (ie Pittsburgh). If John is willing to pack up and move he can find a job that will pay him well, treat him with respect, and provide an environment for a fulfilling career. A good way to go is travel nursing. Find areas of the country you would be willing to live and take contracts there. See how you are treated, ask about benefits and the lifestyle of the areas and then when you find a hospital that fits you apply and settle there. It will be an eye opening experience.
My job has a high turn over and I made it 19 years. I had chest pains from anxiety attacks, one day I walked in and cried uncontroablly. I really hated it. I recently quit, lost weight and feel HAPPY. I rather scrub bathrooms with a toothbrush than go back.
@@michelleleake7688 My parents are old school stay work pension all that and even she sees the change and is so happy I quit. I hope you figure it out because you will feel soooo much better.
For me, it have not gone that far but I took one week vacation and unfortunately I couldn't get up the whole week during exhaustion. After several breakdowns my boss promised to change something, and he did: redirected me to other tasks which suites my competences way better.
I have had several toxic jobs since college but one really broke me. It was a major fortune 500 organization. I have never seen such dysfunction in a workplace. I started going to therapy on my lunch break. My therapist was like the fact you are seeing me on your lunch break is basically the universe screaming at you to get out. I quit eating, developed stomach issues and had a splitting headache constantly. I was turning to alcohol to cope in the evenings and that was when I knew it was time. That was all I needed to hear but I decided to "stick it out" for a few months. This was a mistake. I was humiliated in a meeting one day and accused of a mistake on a report I did not do. I was done...I got out and it saved my sanity honestly. No job is worth your mental or physical health.
Yep hence why my small town is “always hiring” because they have a ton of shit jobs available that employers desperately want people to take up on despite their crap management skills and low pay rates and then they wonder why “people don’t want to work” because people know they literally are better off selling drugs in this wasteland of a state. Damn I hate Alabama.
@@hailervin Corporate propaganda is that some Americans "lost interest" in working because of laziness. In reality, stable and decent paying jobs are very difficult to come by in many areas. Adjusted for inflation, most low to middle class occupations paid better in the 1970's than they do now, and that's not even taking into account cost of living which was much lower 40-50 years ago.
My boss told my coworker that being sick was no excuse for her to not come in to work, not only is covid very much a risk, we work 8hr shifts either up at 5:00am or there till 10:30pm, lift heavy objects and run in and out of a freezing cooler which makes us so cold out fingers get numb, the fact that she has the nerve to tell us that we have no right to take the day off when we are sick just grinds my gears so bad
You say go to your HR department, but most HR departments are in alignment with your boss. If your boss is the problem , they’ll just figure on a way to get rid of you.
Yes never ever go to HR they are not there to protect you only to protect the company and usually solving the problem means firing you! Be wary of management and HR that is very friendly that is how they play with their food!

I quit my job today been with the company for 6 years. I was dealing with depression and feeling sucidal over a damn job. I knew it was time to leave when I was hoping to get into a accident on my way to work . Please don't ever let a job destroy your mental health .
It's people's issues that's the problem. I work in the military industrial complex.....my co worker died of od in the bathroom. They left him in there 7 hours with rigimortis set in. So disguistjng, they care not about employees.
At first I felt horrible about leaving my most recent job but the stress and bullying was so bad there that I was throwing up everyday before going to work and lost a lot of weight. Moral of the story; please take care of and look out for yourself because no one else will. Edit: tbh i didnt expect anyone else to relate to this. I hope everyone under this can find a better working situation. Keep your chin up and don't let disgustingly petty people ruin your life.
For all the people that are scared leaving their job because of financial situation. I was in a job that was ticking some of the above. I just bought a house so I had a mortgage. Finally they let go of me. I was worried but one week later I got a job offer in another country. I made my way up in that company. They have an awesome work culture. One week in the new country i met my future husband... I rent my house and live with him. It was tough to juggle everything the first 2 years. But You don't know what life has in store for you. Same, I’m sitting over here wanting to cry because I have to go to work in 3 days and I’ve only been there for 3 months and I’m already ready to quit because it’s sooo toxic.
At my job all the nurses who wouldn't last a day in a real hospital, are so hateful to everyone, the boss don't care about well being or others issues with them, so I call them glorified CNAs
Before my mum died from cancer, she told me that stress brought her cancer on, and if I was ever in a situation of living or working in stress, I should walk away. Well, life is crazy a couple of years ago. I died on the operating table and was brought back. When I was on the other side, I was very angry that I had wasted my life worrying, toxic people and toxic environments. Fast forward to today. I ended relationships with all toxic people and environments. Live your life so you do not waste it. Ps I am so greatfull that I have the opportunity to let people know this.
I feel the way I tend to think life is too short to waste on stress and toxic workplace I'm not scared of bills being behind my sanity is more important than anything.
Yeah that's a pretty dick move. If your boss can't do their own job without you teaching them how, then they're less suitable for the position than you are. Tell them "good luck finding someone to teach you how to do the job" and head for the door.

For me, it was prostatic pain. Bactrim & medical treatments did nothing. Once I left, the symptoms miraculously disappeared. CAVEAT: Do not use this line to diagnose yourself! If you have prostatic pain, see a urologist!
As someone who use to refuse to tell bosses and supervisors when my workload is too much, I understand. I remember a supervisor who constantly let my co-workers leave early, telling me to stay late because "You're not like them", as if its a sort of consolation. For about four years I worked in the mindset that, the man who does everyone's work alongside his own is the best worker. I've grown since then. Now, I know when to tell my boss "Thats enough."
Another thing I don't like about certain companies is that they tell you to join a potluck event and if not, it will hurt your yearly review. You can't coerce your employees like that if they are not interested. Some people go to work to work and follow procedures. It is stressful as it is in general. Some people are not interested making friends nor dating due to gossiping in a workplace environment.
I feel like everyone who preaches the "Dont quit your job before you have another one lined up" has never truly experienced how terrible jobs can be. Some jobs are flat out dangerous where another day/night can literally get you killed and your boss doesn't care. I've tried hanging in there waiting for another job and I always regretted it. I've been assaulted on the job, and I've wanted to assault my boss before and knew I would if I didn't quit, and if it comes down to you going to jail or losing your job go ahead and quit your job instead of sticking around until something really bad happens. Jobs are replaceable but your life is not
Not even physical. People are just as much in danger with a job that doesn't assault you, as they are with a job that won't even let you piss. Worked for a job 9 hours a day, couldn't even leave my seat. We couldn't drink water in the screening booths. Most days, I was lucky if I was given a 30 minute break. So 9 hours a day, 6 days a week, no water or going to the bathroom. I was having chronic uti's. I developed a serious issue with my bladder thanks to this job. So before anyone says "oh you just have to deal with it",, go fuck yourself. This happens to everyone in most jobs these days. You're stupid as shit for putting up with it
Got that right Ive been to jail over (non workplace) conflict, been homeless, and I will sit in a comfy library, soup kitchen, bus, shelter and play videogames before I take shit for "money". The older I get the more I realize I choose to work, I never have to. If only some employers realized it they would never act like assholes. Like really it doesnt get anyone ANYWHERE.
Take advise from me please 🙏 no job is worth taking the joy out of your life. NO JOB ! I have got a new job out of my situation now because my current workplace is unfixable. There are workplace environments that are fixable and others that you just have to walk away from and run 🏃♂️ from fast!
Mine is different. I wake too much early in the morning having an anxiety attack and overthinking about my decision in taking this new job of mine. It is a 9-6 desk job and I always feel like a machine more than a human being everytime I work.
My last job gave me a depression that after two years I’m still bouncing back from. Standing next to the car in the morning and just wanting to drive to the beach (or anywhere!) instead of work and then spending time in the work parking lot trying to pull myself together to go in... yeah that was a sign
totally get it. Everyday is a struggle to get to work... I have to talk myself out of heading into the wild... The biggest obstacle is lack of decent paying jobs, having to start at the bottom of the totem pole and having to take the schedule they give you. Most of the jobs I see listed are only looking for PT at less pay.
I was the same. I one time shocked the hell out of myself by sitting in my workplace parking lot for a while before leaving to go to a movie. Still had time left, but no money, so I drove and sat in a Walmart parking lot because I didn't want my family to know I'd skipped work. It was winter time but I sat in my cold car just to avoid dealing with work. That's when I knew it'd gotten bad.
I resigned as soon as I realized a couple of things, I was no longer learning anything new that would help my career goals. I was stuck at a low salary range, and I no longer saw opportunity in the company to grow beyond what I was capable of.
Sometimes it’s not only your job you need to walk away from….it’s your entire profession! After 19yrs of nursing, I’m done. I went into it to help others, not to become a patient myself before 45yrs old! We only have one short life, don’t waste it being unhappy & unhealthy. Take care of yourself 1st & foremost.
From someone who died on operating table and came back. Don't waste your life on toxic environments that bring you down physically and emotionally. You are here for a purpose and will not be able to fulfill your purpose if your physical and mental states are depleted.
I once had an employer tell me "You need this job". I replied "I need _a_ job, it doesn't have to be _this_ job". And actually all you really need is an income - and in the digital age there are lots of ways to do that without a traditional "job". Companies especially try to indoctrinate young employees to be fearful of their job security. I like to remind them "you had a job before this one, you'll have a job after this one".
People don’t sign up on a job they hate but usually actually they like. However, the incompetent managers can turn the work situations into a toxic place.
I work at ZAXBYS and this manager James sent me home today just because he doesn’t like me and so I wrote a letter to my boss and I’m going to quit if they don’t do anything

I have always been teased by people in my life as a "job hopper" but pretty early on in getting into my career, I realised that if I was not happy and I was in a toxic environment where I was feeling stressed, unable to eat properly, or sleep properly, it wasn't worth it to me. My mental health got so bad once I almost unalived myself - so I refuse to allow that to continue happening. The problem is, is that so many of us are still conditioned that you just have to stfu and do your job. i have definitely struggled in advancing in my career, but I would rather stay at a low level, than destroy myself getting to the top -- not to mention, everyone at the top got up there by either who they know, or cheating their way. Hard work doesn't really get rewarded much, except for more work.
I quit my job today. I toughed it out for a year but the last few months were horrible. Overworked, underappreciated, and just burned out. @markbrowning4334 No, it's true. Basically, there can be a social hierarchy based on popularity. And if someone is well liked, they can coast vs. the person that is not well liked. If the unppopular person turns the other in, the manager will just ignore the complaint. In addition, it may be ignored because the manager maintains popularity by not disciplining his ranks. But toxicity will get sewn through the workplace, often yielding high turnover or a sickly crew.
@@te9591 I get that this is definetly a thing in society, but I have never seen it in the work place. But then again, all my workplaces have been smaller remodeling companies. I feel like I'm on the wrong channel. I don't think this guy is addressing my kind of workplaces. I could never do corporate.
In some European countries its even worse, than in the USA. Especially towards women. The perfect candidate for them would be a 30 year old energetic person with no family, kids or aspirations to have some (because to their logic -you are going to need more time off and maternity leave), have experience in industry for at least 15 years, willing to literally live in the company and get paid as a teenager.
@@HeadHunterSix I'm 33 and just finishing my degree in programming this year. I am super worried about this, despite not being 'old'. I just worried b ecause they'res 14 year olds who can do what I do. I feel so forgotten and doomed to only work the minimum wage jobs I've had since i was 17.

I worked with a combat veteran (US Army) 3 years ago. One day he told me that he drove past a recruiters office on the way in to work and seriously considered re-enlisting and going back overseas rather than come into the store. He and I both clocked out, dropped our badges, and went to the bar. Today, he manages a gym, and I'm a contract janitor. We make double what we did at Wal-Mart.
I'm 54 and I felt the same thing when I drove past a recruiter a couple weeks ago. They'd never take me back at my age but when you'd rather re-up than work a civilian job, that's a sign.
@@HeadHunterSix For a long time I seriously regretted getting out of the Navy after 7.5 years of active duty. I got out to save a marriage that was (unbeknownst to me) already beyond repair. Should have gone back in, but the USSR had taken their ball and gone home, only to haul down their flag a year later. We can't do a damn thing about the past. And the future is vague. The only thing we can do, is what we can do right now, at this moment we are living in. Planning is vague. Regret is useless.
Took a decision to leave without a job because my boss was too toxic. Yelled at me, made me feel small. I cried many times and I felt so disappointed. I think this is my best decision ever.
Good for you. I had one who actually used to body slam me. "It's just a JOKE." (So was the hatpin I coated in Epsom salt and mounted to my sweater, but that's another story--you could hear that whale scream from three departments away).
Sounds like my situation. Left my job of 6 years without having a backup. My old manager pulled me in the office because I threw a baby shower for this former coworker. She was pissed because she wasn't invited.
Every situation discussed is what I was going through at work. Add ageism, filthy bathrooms, filthy break areas, vulgarity, fights, the shredding of people... I quit yesterday morning at 6:18. I took my power back in under 30 seconds. Hello. Im not coming back. Thank you for the opportunity but the environment is just too harsh and more than I am willing to tolerate. As an addendum to these points, in my working life I've noticed a real 'type' of middle to upper manager. They talk the jargon about looking after staff, but it's actually all about control and micro-management, and making sure their name is all over everything. They have their inner clique, and know what to say to trustees/directors. They set bad culture, or don't bother to correct their 'favourites'. They will HR-jargon talk their way out of having to actually make meaningful change. There are far too many managers, and tragically few actual leaders in the workplace.
I’ve bailed on every job that gave me these signs but I got a better job with higher pay EVERYTIME! So I don’t feel bad for job hopping lol. Do you, boo!
I quit my call center job, and I never felt more relieved. I honestly thought people were just overdramatizing crying at work, until it happened to me and I felt stuck and mentally exhausted. I recommend anyone who feels absolutely miserable at their job to immediately find another one or save up enough for a month or 2 to just quit. Mental health is really important and your job shouldn't sabotage it.
I’ve worked in a tech call centre for home broadband and mobile phones and can tell You it’s completely toxic not only just from dealing with deranged customers screaming bloody murder on the phone when something goes wrong but from management and your colleagues, it’s a back stabbing environment where everyone is out for themselves. I left after 2 years and never was happier in my life.
I currently work for a call center but from home. In conversations with some colleagues, we agree that there are changes that need to be done but management above supervisors will do little to nothing about it. Suggestions are ignored and we're told to just put up with it. We also see more push on policy and procedures than making sure our systems or programs work right.
Physical health is important too. Your eyes and lungs matter. A few dollars over minimum wage isn’t worth getting cataracts 20 years early and black lung/ mesothelioma in a couple years time.
I just quit my job 2 days ago. Mechanic here. I just couldn't do it anymore. It wasn't the employer either. They were nice. I guess I'm man enough to admit that while it pays the bills the work was becoming unfulfilling and meaningless. I woke up Monday and just couldn't bring myself to do it anymore. I had no exit plan but the universe was telling me "enough". I'm a 42 year old going back to school and plan on finding a job that has nothing to do with automotive. I don't know what will happen between now and my degree but my family is supporting me and we'll get by some how.
Hey Man, you have my respect for not being one of those people that says that its too late, If I were your age and was in the same situation I would seriously hope I would do the same. Mad respect to you from me!
Depends on the shop area of business. If its a muffler/brake shop, that stuff gets so boring you'll lose your mind. Dealerships are run like a McDonald's, never a moment's peace. Open up your own shop and be an honest mechanic, it will start off slow, but when people learn your reputation, you'll be super busy and you'll be able to set your own hours.
I feel your pain. 2 years ago I switched from automotive to heavy equipment mechanic. Best thing I ever did! I had enough when I asked for a raise so I could afford to go to school and I was told I was not worth the 15dollars an hour they fn pay me. I walked out that day and signed up for school the next day.
It’s rough being around mechanics a lot are egotistical and prideful as hell. Just quit working at Firestone just couldn’t take the lack of respect being a human being and leadership.
When I was a young engineer 35 years ago, I had a little Hitler for a boss who was a total sociopathic POS. One of the very few people I've ever truly and deeply hated. It actually worked out in the long run. Later in my career when I was managing and having issues with staff, I would ask myself "What would Nick do?" I would then do the opposite, and it always worked out for the better. Sometimes it's not a bad idea to stick it out in a bad situation. Could make you stronger in the long run.
I have had about 12 Toxic bosses in my work history. The reason I didn't quit all of them is because I was at some time a Divorced father of two paying Child support and paying off Credit Cards. It wasn't fun, but I put my nose to the Grindstone. By December 2021 I was completely debt free and praise myself for pressing through.
I left my corporate job because I found that I needed to be medicated to get my day started, I cried often & had frequent panic attacks, while I don't regret quitting. I'm gonna miss those checks. lol
He wasn't really a tyrant, he was an okay dude. But I hated the job itself, because sitting on my ass for five hours talking to angry people drove me insane.
The reason I sent an email and didn't quit in person is because we have a legally required notice period in my country. From the date of notice, you have to stay employed for a month period, starting at the 1st of next month. So if you send a notice in May, you'll have to work until the end of June. I gave notice right at the end of May, and if I had waited until the next time I saw him, I'd have to work for all of July.
Accepted a position as a director of nursing. Very competitive salary. I was over the moon until I recognized the company: nepotism, unethical, no regard for safety or standards. I tried my best to stick it out because I am rather resilient. When I realized they did not have any plans, no budget, no care for patient or staff safety, I left within two months. I am now back on the drawing board.
I was in the same boat as you and had to quit months after accepting a great job that I love. What was funny about the position, I was told the person I was replacing left on maternity leave and decided not to come back, what I learned… I was the 4th person within 2 yrs that had the position and quit just like rest because of the boss that HR knows about but still keeps.
I worked a job where everyone I worked with was divorced and an alcoholic. One night I was having a fight with my wife about my drinking. The next day I put in my notice. Best. Decision. Ever.
I've held onto jobs that were toxic because I'm the sole provider for my family. You have to keep a roof and food on the table. Not always easy to leave under those circumstances.
@@nooneherebutuschickens5201 I was in the same situation, but as a single man. My personality changed, I became a very hostile and combative person. I got fired and was unemployed for two years afterwards, I simply couldn't find another job. I have a new job for WAY less money now, but I don't want to kill myself or other people anymore.
I suffered migraines, bouts of depression, anxiety, issues with sleep, itchy skin which I knew was from nerves, and I dreaded even opening my laptop much less the days I had to go to the office (hybrid). I was too mentally exhausted from the toxic office environment, the ongoing criticism and the unreasonable expectations. I gained weight from stress snacking. My manager wasn't qualified to lead a team, and I see this a lot where people are put into those positions based on seniority rather than capabilities or relevant experience. Longevity on the job does not automatically make you an effective supervisor. I've never wanted to supervise people and don't claim to have the best skills for it (or tolerance), but I know a bad manager when I experience one.
I swear they're literally there for PR pointscoring. Company values and culture should be about making employees feel valued and at home. They'll look after what they have if they love it, and do the best they can for the company .
You mean core values like "honestly, loyalty, respect for others, devotion, giving 100% to the job & going the extra mile" ? Have you ever noticed what a one way street "core values" are? You are encouraged and expected to manifest these values toward your job & employer. But somehow they are never reciprocated. It's almost like that's just a way employers manipulate the employees. Naw, couldn't be.
I started a new job 3 weeks ago. It was the worst 3 weeks of my life. My manager basically forced me to rush thru my module training, and threw me out to the wolves to handle customer issues. The worst part? Sometimes he would show up 3-4 hours late, or not at all. I’d have to blow up his phone and FaceTime him in front of customers to walk me thru my job. He always answered the phone so irritated, rude, bitchy, and snarky. There was never any time to take a break and eat. I even started drinking again. My memory was terrible, I’d wake up in the middle of the night, dreams about my job. I was off this weekend and due to go back today. And I’m simply just not going back. I called my old job back that didn’t pay enough, but at least I was trained and happy.
Sigh. Do I ever hear you! Like, honestly! I would be able to get the work done if he wasn’t constantly in the way, and then waiting until I’ve completed previous instructions before giving me the new ones for the fourth time! And I am not even exaggerating! I might be able to hit the mark if the target would stop getting moved.
Or when the manager complains that you're slow to get work done, but you have to waste at least a half an hour to 45 minutes each day tracking them down to get your next instructions from them because they only give you an hour or two of work at a time instead of telling you everything that will need done in the job and trusting you to get done what needs done.
The 5 signs are: 1. 2:42 Extreme stress, i.e. your health being severely affected 2. 4:40 Terrible boss (reason most people quit) 3. 6:00 Toxic work culture, e.g. highly competitive environment 4. 7:32 Illegal activities 5. 8:13 Safety, i.e. being asked to do something that is not safe
I can tolerate illegal activities as long as the other shit isn't present. "Need me to drive the drugs to the warehouse boss? Got it. Thanks again for the raise."
I can’t say that I have any of these 5 signs, but I still want to quit. I don’t really even have a reason that I can pin down, except I’m overqualified and am sick of teens bossing me around. I also don’t care to wear a uniform. Good enough reasons to look for another part-time job?
1,2,3,4 terrible boss with favoritism doesn't give a sh*t if we accidentally cut our fingers because of the pressure likes to punish you even when you are already exhausted some toxic regular co workers and lack of safety and first aid specially we are always carrying heavy stuff and sharp blades
I quit today, only lasted 9 days. The coworker who was suppose to teach me had zero tolerance when I asked questions for clarifications on any of the tasks. I felt like an idiot for not getting them right, overwhelmed on the workload, and scared to asking questions when something was wrong. I was physically holding back tears my final day and that's when I decided I was quiting. No other job has ever made me feel like trash like that and that's when I left.
I had a similar experience, the person supposed to teach the job kept saying "is on the procedures is on the procedures" and said that so people around could listen to that, on the top of this she goes around talking trash about someone that she is supposed to show the work, very unprofessional.
I’m a combat veteran and battle with PTSD and TBI. My manager asked me on multiple occasions if I “k*lled people” and or if I have violent episodes. My mental health suffered tremendously while at that job. The stress trickled into my personal life, aggregated my conditions, and impacted my family. I expressed this to my management team and they did nothing to support me. Needless to say, I left.

The biggest challenge is to make the change when your self esteem and self confidence has been battered. It is hard to have a positive idea of your skill set and value to future employers in these circumstances but you need to park of all of that and believe in yourself and you will make through to the other side. You should never accept a toxic work environment.
At work I feel like an outcast. Not to mention they are mad that I won’t work over time because I want to spend my weekend with my girlfriend and other activities outside of work.

Believe me, 34 isn't too late by far. One thing you've got that no 22 year old kid does, is years of experience in the work force.

This got me scolded for "forcing" Raymond to eat foods I liked! What part of "He picked out the vegetables and asked if we could buy them" were they missing?

Go "above and beyond", even be respectful and passive with your enemies. Be what THEY WANT YOU TO BE, then "SUDDENLY" QUIT. It's the best revenge. High turnover is a sign that you're in a bad situation.
Facts!
Oh yeah!
Also watch out for miserable people
I went through that, it is also the sign of a narcissistic employer.
I realized this at 32, changed the whole way I started looking at things. They really view you as an interchangeable cog.
Or disappoint family
Exactly, I sell my labour to them. They do not own me.
I feel bad about losing my pay check.
Thank you! I needed to see this
Another problem is that you really can't talk about a toxic job you just left because potential employers will think you're just a whiner and won't want to hire you.

Respect is non-negotiable. Basic human respect is part of professionalism.
However, respect is earned, not arbitrarily granted because someone “demands” it. Most people are NOT respectable.

@@betsybarnicle8016 Ideally, yes. But most workplaces don't abide by this.
That’s awful and I’m praying for you John! It shouldn’t be this way.
What country are you in John? Can the employees join a work union?
What country? What part? I would run as fast as you could from that job.
Ppl asking what country! It's the U.S. part of the problem is nursing and hospital culture accepting 12 hour shifts as norm.

Radiation therapy field has been a nightmare for me. Hours dropped, insane.
Or, teaching. Gah. The "service" professions are truly the biggest drain.
I plan on going into psych nursing myself but I'm a bit scared 😅
I so agree. I’m so done with nursing that I’m considering taking a lesser job for variety. Good luck!
From someone who died on operating table and came back. Don't waste your life on toxic environments that bring you down physically and emotionally. You are here for a purpose and will not be able to fulfill your purpose if your physical and mental states are depleted.
Remember folks, toxic workplaces count on economic desperation to hold employees. I worked for one like that and stayed far too long.

TRUTH!
Definitely sounds like my current job.

6. When the managers never call out the lazy workers and instead make the good workers do extra work in order to compensate for the lazy workers.
👍👍
Same for bad behavior, it's tolerated based on how popular someone is.
I have never seen that in a work place.
That doesn't even make sense.
There isn't time for popularity contests. Everyone knows and does their job. If someone would slack, they sure aren't getting rewarded because they were more popular.

After a certain age, the opportunities dry up. You can't even get an interview. Age discrimination is real!

So true.. get out and don't look back!
Physical health is important too. Your eyes and lungs matter. A few dollars over minimum wage isn’t worth getting cataracts 20 years early and black lung/ mesothelioma in a couple years time.
I don't blame you. Call center jobs suck. All of them.
Buy some HEX, stake it for 6 years and follow your heart in the meantime 🙏🏼
You should've done it in person; nothing more gratifying than seeing a tyrant boss crumble when you give notice.

Or when the manager complains that you're slow to get work done, but you have to waste at least a half an hour to 45 minutes each day tracking them down to get your next instructions from them because they only give you an hour or two of work at a time instead of telling you everything that will need done in the job and trusting you to get done what needs done.

@@ceecee8757 just the "sliding the door with her hip" thing sounds sooo annoying. 5 years wow you've been so patient and resilient. Thanks and good luck to you as well, something better is coming next for us :)
@@GoldChocobo77 I've been in the same department for 5 years, going on 6 in September; however, she recently became my direct supervisor retired in December 2018. It's been a helluva 2 years, but one year working remotely now. Now that I'm salary, she tries to make us feel obligated to participate in holiday parades on paid days off...all in the name of camaraderie. The way I see it is time that I will never get back from being away from my family. Seeing my coworkers 40 hours a week is enough for me. This sounds heartless, but I don't see coworkers as people I want to spend time with on my days off. I have to draw the line. My boss doesn't realize that we have to have boundaries.
Also, have you ever sat in a meeting and realize that your boss loves the sound of her/his voice? So when it comes time for you to speak or asked for any input, you get talked over and your input is of no use anyway? It totally de-motivates me because what is the point when you feel undervalued. That is when I have stopped going above and beyond. How about you?
#2-3. Stayed 10 years for the money. Saved aggressively, quit, went to Europe. Came back, got a job, #2-3 again. Pandemic. Laid off. Full time Remote now. Couldn’t be happier. Thanks COVID!!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Toxic bosses hate remote working! Some of them have withdrawal symptoms and are trying to move surveillance of employees into their homes.
@@faithlesshound5621 You have no idea how accurate you are lol
@@faithlesshound5621 I hear ya. I work in IT company, and yet management wants everyone in the office physically. Why?? Office rent and utilities cost a lot every months, also we have few employees voluntarily quit as they did not want to spend time and gas to commute to the office where they are sitting in old chairs with no windows and natural light. All of them successfully found better opportunities and work from home ever more efficient, than before.
Why every time I watch these videos I meet all the criteria....This must be a sign for me to leave my job.
oh yes .. dude if your job makes you sick in your stomach .. if it kills your health .. get another one .. no job pays that good
Look for a new one before you leave so you can pay your bills. Make sure to see if they pay more too!
@@TheyCalledMeT if that is the case, try to get fired and collect unemployment.
@@vi_EviL_iv nah, a good job gives u a lot more than just some money.
@@vi_EviL_iv You're unlikely to qualify for unemployment if you were fired for cause.
I lost my family due to toxic workplace. Put your family first you can always find a new job but u get never get ur mental health or family back
If you drive in the parking lot and need to take a deep breath and pray. It’s time to go!! I have walked away with no back up it was the most liberating experience. Despite the struggle, l am in a much better space.
I literally do this every work day (I pray the whole 20 min drive there too). I have to view myself as trash to tolerate people's behavior toward me all day lol.
Good for you!! That's what I want to do right this minute have been wanting to for weeks! Leave and walk away with no back up job! I had breast cancer, got diagnosed in 2018, now I'm cancer free!!! I've learned life is way too short to be stuck in a job you hate! Been with my company 15 plus years, no room for growth or improvement just soo bored! Would rather pursue my dreams!!!
In the US, affordable health insurance is tied to our jobs. That makes it harder to quit.
That's why they made it that way.
look for a group plan you can join. They do exist, but they are sometimes difficult to find. No employer required.
Nonsense. The Affordable Care Act, i.e. “Obamacare”, changed that years ago.
@@genxx2724 bullshit. Everyone’s healthcare went up who was middle class. That’s what democrats do. Constantly screw with the middle to give to the poor
@genxx2724 that's why it's good to do third party companies or just small mom and pop pizza delivery jobs because I noticed it's more calm and less drama
I have learned the fine art of not CARING about what other people think of me including bosses/co workers. Money is my accolades. I have NO feelings at work. With that said, I am a very sensitive person. I've been through so much shit, I just don't care anymore.
*Correct*

Yes! Same here, lol. I could care less. I'm cordial. Just pissed off I need a paycheck and it's sucking up my precious resource I can never get back, time.
There are people like us with integrity and empathy that reach that point where we just don't care.
We are the reason for the meme of the US soldier/Marine (I can't tell by the photo) dropping a grenade down a stairwell that states "The last fucking I had to give//...and there it goes"
I worked for a designer at a home renovation company . I he was so unstable the staff never talked unless we had too and it was horrible to work 12 hours and nobody talking to each other
Same!
