I'm in engineering. Found out last winter that the company was offering new hires about $10K more than me (I have almost a decade of experience). I asked for and got a $10K raise, but decided to put out an application in parallel to another company I really wanted to work for just as a long shot. I ended up getting that position and an additional 45% raise on top of the $10K I got at my current job. I couldn't be more thrilled.

Salary "compression," as it's called, has been a problem for a very long time. Happens to all of us eventually. Which sucks, because, using your case as an example, the company is effectively saying "All your experience, knowledge and company loyalty is only worth $10k."
As Tony Soprano put it, "There's no statute of limitations on disrespect."

Quit a company 3 years ago. I lasted a year and a half there. It was my shortest stint anywhere. I'm not ashamed. Working at that company made me feel like I was being driven crazy, had toxic bosses and coworkers, and started to have a slew of health issues. I had a heart attack while at work, at 35 years old and had to take a mandatory 90 days off due to it. Of course they tried shirking their responsibility in paying me, and it's also when I found out how "great" the company's insurance wasn't. Upon being cleared to go back to work, I quit within the first 6hrs of my shift. I decided to take 6 months off before landing where I am today. I make way more money, have been able to stabilize the work life balance, I don't find myself sleeping away my nights off like the previous place, have lost over 80lbs, have gotten back into shape, and have a much healthier lifestyle as a result.
I sometimes see the people I used to work with. They look absolutely miserable and in poor health. They've been brainwashed into thinking there is no other place like that awful company. If they quit, nobody is going to want to hire them. That is one of the many things the higher-ups put into the minds of the weak willed who work there. It's what abusive partners do. It's so messed up. I've tried telling them that company isn't the only show out there but they don't want to listen. You can't help those who don't want it.

I had stayed with an abusive boss for 21 years. He wasn't always abusive but he changed over the past two years. I put up with his screaming but then it accelerated into belittling me and throwing papers. Once that happened, I walked out. I managed a small law firm and it was rough. I stayed longer than I should've because the salary was good and I knew my job well. My ex boss said "you do nothing all day." He was so upset that I walked out. He was calling incessantly and pounding me with texts. I told him that I was not coming back and I meant it! He even had his wife pleading with me not to quit. He embarrassed me in front of an office full of attorneys with that tantrum. The inappropriate, childish behavior was unbearable. So, I gave it right back to and left the following note on his door...
You reap what you sow. Next time don't abuse your staff by screaming, belittling and throwing things.
    I quit!
    Yours truly.

I told my boss that I am sorry I couldnt do any more work I am too tired, he told me "it's a shame your grandma died but the work still needs to get done" Thats when I knew he didnt care about my well-being.

If everybody is quiting, but you don't want to change companies for whatever reason, it's also an option to use that situation for your advantage. Get an offer from outside, then negotiate with your current employer. If they are really in a bad situation and you are a valuable asset, they need to be flexible. Sell them how much you want to stay, and it's only about the money. You need to pay your loans, you want a child, whatever, etc. It can also be an excellent opportunity to prepone a promotion if they need to do that to give you more money. :)

Mate, same field, similar company mindset. My first proper accounting job after school, meaning very unsure about accounts, no connection between what I had learned at school and actual invoices... Yeah, fun. I told the head of accounting, that I'll need guidance, in the interview, very much before I got hired. I never received any support, apart from the software we use. No training on the internal system, didn't receive account list to this day or anything regarding fixed assets... meanwhile, I'm on my third accounting role in the company. As a result, I am the one who's being approached by folks. Was an invoice paid on time? Yeah, I look that up and tell, even though I don't do payments anymore. A colleague forgot to attach payment details? No problem, here they are. Generated from the system. Oh AR didn't send over invoices? No problem. Anything about overhead invoices? Yeah, that used to be my position, so I can explain a thing or two, I might not be an expert, but, for some reason, I always managed to either point to the answer or to someone with it... Cause, you know, I've had to work out, what was what in my early days.
Now, I got sick these few months back... meltdown from my bosses idiotic behavior, tooth ache (the teeth had to be extracted), covid, left one evening with a fever... Yeah those were interesting three months... and guess what. Our CFO berated me over how little I were at work, even though I've had doctor's notes, and in the same breath praised me over how helpful I was to everyone around me. Then, he tried to force a pay cut on me (very illegal, where I live), because I was not at a position, which demanded the salary I started with... The CFO even tried to throw my studies in my face... Yeah studies, I gave up on, because I was needed at the company for closing and didn't go for my exams. Meanwhile, I offered, that if I ever got sick, I'd work from home, right after I were hired. All I needed was a computer, but guess what. "No home office for you, drone.", was the CFO's answer.
So I got my self a new job, so I'll be giving my notice shortly. Too bad it ain't accounting per se, but I can't stay at this company. I don't feel appreciated one bit. When I started my job, I was fine waking up early to get to the job. I was looking forward to learning from actual practice. Nowdays? I hate going to work. And the craziest thing about all this? So my company basically forced me out, yet when I started working there, HR was practically balling their eyes out, over how they can't retain talent. I wonder why is that.

And I’m a heart patient so that job was hurting me in so many ways. I’m grateful I got away from that job. Ever since I have my cycle is normal and I’m sleeping better. It’s sad that when you leave a toxic place and the first thing you notice is huh I can actually sleep.

I had a job I liked, then two guys in office left, so I ended up doing two jobs + half the other one. It was so hard but I managed, until employer got me doing another job, yet another of the lazy workers could have done that. Crazy but true.

I may not be in corporate office but similarly alot of these points carry over into places. A co-worker was having a surgery and would be out, several of us stepped up to cover, i worked 13 shifts in a row, 1 girl called out and my boss was trying to call me in. So many other instances that would require me to write a book. I decided that i will not be the work horse or fall back guy. Once you start that, they expect it every time

All of these applied to me. I do biomedical research using data analytics. I have been on the job market for 2 years, which for Academia or BigPharma was definitely not a buyer's market and frozen out until ~6-8 months ago. I've gotten close 7 times for these sectors, but things haven't quite aligned in my favor yet. I'm at a career stage where Associate Director or Director positions are the only viable move lateral or upward, so it's slow-going. Anyway, I love your advice and your channel. Thanks!

I left a job that had all kinds of wfh tech issues and refusal to pay more for returning seasonal workers. They acted like the issues were always the worker's inability to follow instructions. My stats were great but there was no advancement. Also once the project ended and we stayed with the company we had to take a pay cut. It wasn't worth staying.

This is a good video if you happen to be a student that has been forced to take online classes coming out of Covid. Many schools are in no hurry to bring their students back to the class room. Their teaching staff is quietly quitting and could care less about your success after school.

Excellent info. In the past I've seen those signs and ignored them for not knowing better. The Monday morning dread, right on point! I do see some of the signs in my current job, but I have an exit plan, I can't just leave, especially since I am in the highest pay in my industry, and not all the signs are present. Thanks for this video.

My biggest reasons right now are: management adding additional tasks on top of current heavy work loads, and mandatory rotating weekends/holidays. Not to mention no raises or bonuses

A few weeks ago we had a townhall meeting where the uppers mentioned that we were not getting a cost of living increase cause our Summer bonus was going to be larger to accommodate. Today I got my number and was $1K short from last year..... That alone was a sign for me. On top of that I keep getting push back about staying remote when they are not giving increases to meet the needs. Guess that I will stay but become a quiet quitter until I am able to pick up something better or start my own business that I have been exploring lately....

I've been thinking about quitting my job. I used to go the extra mile, but I wasn't getting praise, and my coworkers who only did the bare minimum were getting compliments. I started working as hard as they did, and now I've had multiple meetings in my bosses office about my performance. It was terrible, and if I don't step it up, then I'm fired. Now that most of his employees are looking for higher paying jobs, he's kissing my ass about how good I'm doing now.

my last job i had created a tool for the department to utilize for their projects, trained a new graduate and presented 3 workshops to the company but was denied a mid-year bonus because my workload had some mistakes in it (due to me focusing on the other things) and was told all of my extra hard work that i had done "didnt matter". That night i started applying for new positions that would give me what im worth. never settle for a bad company.
Within 2 weeks i had a job offer in my hands with a 25% raise and accepted that job.

I’m in recruiting as well, would like to make a move for more money but nervous I’d be First In/First Out if the market crashes later this year . also with the extensive salaries being offered now makes me thinks they’ll also do massive layoffs, Meta is rescinding offers, AWS I think over hired recruiters etc

I worked as a contractor at a large company. I loved the job but I was severely underpaid for designing hardware, firmware, and software. I lost three coworkers and I was assigned more and more work. Finally, a recruiter called me about about a good job and was able to get a 40% increase in salary. I talked to a former coworker last week and I found out that none of the developers who left have been replaced. That tells me that my old employer was planning to lay off several contractors.
