The lyrics here hit even harder when you realize they wrote it 20 years ago
even harder if you realize how bad things were 20 years ago
That’s even before the explosion of private prisons loln
there are two reasons that SOAD is one of the greatest bands ever, 1 - they are catchy as fuck, obviously. lol and 2 - cause they are always spittin' facts.
Talent and brains in a powerful entertaining package
“BANANA BANANA BANANA BANANA TERRACOTTA BANANA TERRACOTTA TERRACOTTA PIE” always will be one of the most inspiring verses to exist 😂
And as much as I wish they had released more albums, they were smart to not overstay their welcome. They got in, did their thing, then got out. I know they all do various projects and have even toured together and released a couple of songs last year, but their last full album was 17 years ago.
I always luv his voice nice soft cute Then Screaming cussing and going insane
@@markgoguen8698 After 9-11 They took a big hit but they were coming up
I very clearly remember buying this album the day it came out and thinking it blew up my stereo system on the first note for a terrifying second.
Omg I'm so glad I wasn't the only one that thought that! 😂 🤦♀️🤣
Totally understandable haha.
jesus christ I totally forgot that feeling. Thanks for the returning ptsd lol
Same lol
I had to buy new headphones
"The prison system has doubled since 1985"
This came out in 2001 so in 16 years, the prison population doubled
And if you look at the numbers, of all the brutal dictatorships around the world right now, America has the highest percentage of their population in prison.
@@paulmiller7838 a so-called Free country
@@betterthanMJF Freedom to go to jail
Crazy 9-11 Damn
Considering this song was written 20 years ago that line about the prison population doubling since '85 seems a little out of date though it hasn't gotten any better.
I wonder if they update the line live, but have not had the luck to see them live. :'( I guess since this show didnt have them alter the number, they don't.
You’re right. It’s substantially more than double what it was in 1985 now.
Kamala Harris is to be blamed
@@pmaster1173 It's a lot more than just Kamala Harris. The entire system is f-ed. Entire government is to blame.
@@pmaster1173 She helps hold it up but she's not at all the person who started the prison industrial complex in our rotten country
Yes! Well if you want to listen to the album you bought, next up do DEER DANCE! Another brilliant song!
i just put it up
@@MrLboydReacts You definitely picked the best album of the bunch. Cheers.
Love this song
Deer Dance is great. Track 3 tho
That whole Album is epic
"this is political kidn of isn't it?" LOL, they're a totally political band.
Haha yeah HAVE U HEARD SYSTEM BEFORE MRBOYD? 😂😂
Not really
Their first álbum and a couple of songs of the rest
Daron has exclusively stated that they aren't a political band, and their songs often are written on whatever they were focused at the time. Whether it be some political themes, or silly, stupid, horny themes. But to say they are a political band is not accurate.
a LOLed really hard on his comment 😂😂
Seeing this band live is like a religious experience. Every hair on my body was standing on end.
im jealous of you
The Mosh Pits were insane.Check out RUclips now only way sorry
Serj has the best growl sound in my opinion on this song, I love it. Heard it live and sounds just as good.
"Drugs are now you global policy, now you police the globe" That's a good line right there.
I found it very funny when you started to realize what they were saying and went "uh yeah ... let's not get into that, let's get into this". Realizing bands like SOAD have actually something say inside of their somewhat tilted music is always a good thing.
You should go back their first album and check out "Spiders". Personal favorite from them.
Agree.
Yes! Along with Sugar
I looooooooooove "Spiders"!!!! favorite song too!
Yeah, Spiders is the best.
Ohhhhhh yeeeeeaaaaah! Spiders is amazing. I think he should also check out Mind and Sugar.
Here we gooooo! Sweet line up today, Rammstein, then RTJ, now finally 'Prison Song'!
Agreed!
Very excited when I woke up this morning to see all of this!!
Your appreciation for system is amazing. I’m 34 but they’ve been my favorite band for 15 years now. Amazing live performance. Needles is a great song.
Amazing Mosh Pits Top 5 Pantera,Slipknot,Metallica, and Coal Chamber
"slavery through the back door" as Steven Fry described it.
I actually miss quotted there, it was Jimmy Carr on QI after Stephen Fry gave the facts.
Many of the mandatory minimum sentences were actually due to the 1994 Crime Bill. That bill is said to be the reason why there are so many minority IN the prison System. You should check out who wrote and sponsored that bill.
the drummer of SOAD, john dolmayan is an open republican
Joe Biden policy. J.S.
when u said mandatory minimums , i was like oh youll like that later .. ok ill press play to watch ur reaction lol
I saw System of a Down at Download Festival 2011, their first appearance (I think they did one or two small shows in the States/Canada, but it was certainly their first date in Europe) since being on hiatus for five years. They were the headline act, and opened with this song. The tease went on a fair bit longer on that occasion, haha. Then those magical notes hit, the curtain dropped, and the rest was history. One of the best bands I've ever seen live.
2005, slipknot on right before, was an epic night.
This was the 1st system song i ever heard. Turned them into my favorite band and I've listened to them almost daily at least once a week for 20 years
BYOB really needs to be done with the video and not live. It's so good and the meaning a lot of reactors miss even with the video.
Live version on SNL is damn good. But probably will be blocked too.
@@wilhelmfink7633 I don’t know about that one, but I’ve seen a lot of people react to SOAD videos and not get blocked.
@@Kelly30stm I agree. I don't understand why he doesn't react to Soad's official releases. It is better because it would be easier to understand the lyrics for example.
SNL, on the other hand, blocks everyone.
@@wilhelmfink7633 he explains it in his videos, he does live because the RUclips algorithm doesn't catch it at copyrighted material.
Can't wait for Bounce.
It'll get him so many friends.
Same here bro!
When I saw System live in 2001 they opened with this song. Not only is it my favorite song by them, but all the people at the concert lost their minds, and I've never seen a concert that crazy or as intense.
"This is political isn't it, kind of?" - The most understated sentence ever used to describe System of A Down. These guys WERE my teenage years.
I listen to this album regularly, usually when I am out driving for work. Every single song is a banger.
SUGAR! I lose my mind every time I hear this song! Not sure if this one’s come up yet in the reaction video list, and if not, you need check this one out as well.
I just watched all of your SOAD reactions & I'm lovin' every single moment!
SUBSCRIBED!
💥💯🖤🎼🤘
My main criticism of the live versions is that Daron is usually mixed like a backing singer but in the albums he is mixed like a co lead. And the two leads sound is quite central to the sound of the band imo.
Daron only became "co lead" after their 3rd album (Do Not Steal This Album included). On Toxicity, Serj was still very much the lead singer
Yeah I wish he would do studio versions. I've done reactions to lyric videos and never had a problem with copyright with the exception of Fleetwood Mac.
@@Cmoss114 you are right in the sense that he didn't tend to sing without Serj during toxicity but he was still mixed like a co lead as opposed to their debut where he was mixed like a backing singer.
@@someknave fair enough. I'm not well versed in sound engineering so I'll take your word on it. I'm just disappointed that one of my top 3 favorite bands of all time haven't put out an album in over a decade because their "lead singer" seems incapable of removing his head from his own ass
"Let's not get into it" NO GET INTO IT!!! TALK ABOUT IT!! That's the point of the song to raise awareness. SCREAM IT FROM THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS. THEY ARE TRYING TO BUILD A PRISON!!!!
Do yourself a favor, and once you’ve heard all the songs from it, listen to the whole album Toxicity straight through in one listen. It just REALLY hangs together as an album. The song transitions hit at a whole other level.
It's a system that makes perfect sense to share-holders, especially those in public office.
SO loving your SOAD journey and reactions!
I'm watching you have epiphanies about what you're hearing and tearing my hair out like "if only you had the studio version or at least a lyrics sheet to see the stuff you're missing in the live version!"
The smile you cracked when the music started and then the look of fear for me. 😂🤣 Mr Boyd you are undisputed top 3 YT reactor.
The First time I heard this I listened to it four times, then told my kids to listen to it.
I love seeing people trying to find words to describe that insane feeling and energy metal gives you. Especially for the first time. priceless.
SOAD is not metal, they are rock. You want metal, check out Whitechapel, Lamb of God, burn the priest , decide, job for a Cowboy. Juss sayin. SOAD is what we consider 'nu-metal'
You said it buddy , Nu-metal a subgenre of metal but that's just splitting hair and besides the positive point I was trying to make. I'm assuming you've had a bad day or something so I hope everything is or will be alright in your life.
Love this!!! Keep rocking the SOaD. BYOB
.
Love your SOAD deep dive! Such a great album too.
I knew you were gonna do all the songs but i still went "YESSSS!" outloud when i saw the title.
I was STOOOOOKED. I wish we could see his studio reaction but I'll take what we can get.
@@bhelliom3 oh for sure. Sadly Soad live are a diff beast because they never seem to have high quality concert footage. The mixing on this album is so crisp!
This and Deer Dance are my favs and you’ve reacted to both today. Choice!
Also, just a thought: maybe a short video explaining why you have to use live versions of the songs? Hopefully cut down on so many “why do you use the live version” questions. I know you’ve explained it before but that pops up sooo much in these comments.
i absolutely love watching people listen to soad for the first time. brings me life. deer dance nextttttt
Anyone see their shows with the big curtain that comes crashing down in the intro to this? Fucking epic, hell of a way to start a show
The very fact that you decided to react to System of a Down is the reason I am liking and subscribing to you. Can't wait to see your other content!
A PERFECT CIRCLE. "MER DE NOMS." THIS ALBUM IS FIIIIRE. It is the singer and guitarist of Tool. The guitarist wrote an album and asked Maynard to sing. He killed it. Every song is a 10. The concept is heavily based in sacred geometry. The music is perfect representations of math and form united. "3 Libras," "Magdalena," "Rose," and "Judith." Judith is about the singer of Tool watching his very good hearted religious mother die painfully while G-d sat by and did nothing (in his eyes.)
Agree 😎
this one would've been a good one to react to the lyrical video
Science and Forest never get reacts, but they're friggan great too. Since you own the album, you know that. Rock on man. Trying to hit like on your SOAD videos to show I like the content. ;P
- Mr. Lboyd' face lights up - "Ohhhh Shit". Hahaha every single time he picks up on the message of a SOAD song.. It's fucking great 😂
Live that you’re doing the whole album! I may not comment every video. But know I’ll be here enjoying your reactions! Welcome to the fandom!
"The prison industrial complex is interesting, isn't it, in america" yeah, you could say that^^
Why do you keep doing live versions? Serj's vocals are hit or miss live, but they sound perfect on the studio version!
To get around copyright
I have never seen an official soad song review being taking down..
Awesome reaction, its good to see reactors who actually understand what the lyrics 'actually'mean, next I think you need to do B.Y.O.B 🤟🤟
YESSSSS
1:55 that was definitely Daron 😂😂😂
Edit: I was interested to hear your take on the US prison system. It was amusing to see your realisation on the topic not to mention how it got deeper. 😂
How awesome !!! I was at this show in Rio and it was amazing!!!! SOAD is my favorite band! ❤️🤘🏻
The stage set was amazing the bright spots shining straight down through the haze over the stage looked like prison bars.
This is a good reation, when he analised the lyrics. Such a nice work.
If you aren't already aware, Serj Tankian, the lead singer for SOAD, has a great song with Tech N9ne called "Straight Out the Gate".
Keep in mind that the statistics Serj sings were written back in 2000/2001
You are so fucking insightful bro. Blew me away that you called a lyric out before you even heard it.
I remember jamming out to this song on Vynal when in HS. Got the record for like a dollar at a yardsell
the prison system has double since 1985. (when the song was RELEASED IN 2001!!! )
Phenomenal song! I'm glad you found these guys. Privatized prisons are absolutely disgraceful
i'm just here to cause it was a handy place to watch a bunch of live SOAD with a fellow admirer
No such thing as a bad System of a Down song. Honestly, reacting to any song of theirs is going to be a good time.
This was a CD I use to wear out bck in the 90's🤟🤟🤟
I love System Of A Down, they started me being an activist now, 1 ❤️ all
Do you talk about anything besides music? I've been hooked on your content the last couple days and I realize it's not because of the music, but your thoughtful insights, and I'd really love to hear what you have going on upstairs. Much love and keep up the good work.
The way you break down songs is fascinating keep doing your thing bro
Ur sharp on picking up lyrics bro!
FINALLY! Been waiting for this one
...its nice to see another person discovering SOAD!!!
Man this song was my go to song in middle school to blast in my room to piss off my parents lol
Give their self titled album a listen. Suite pee is the first song I heard from them. Blew my socks off.
very good song and band, very good channel. Keep up the good work man.
ATWA is a heater. Hell the whole album is but you know that by now.
This live version doesn't do the song any justice so I'm glad you bought the album. Hurry through it though, Hypnotize and Mesmerize are waiting for you.
On a side note the numbers were doubled when he wrote the song 20 or so years ago, it's probably staggering now.
Holy Mountain please! Live in Yerevan 🇦🇲 in the rain 2015. Also Spiders from live on Conan when they first debuted. Also check out some from the self titled album (Suggestions is my favorite but Sugar was most popular) from Whisky A Go Go 1997, when they were young still. Mosh vibes. Bangers all around.
Yes! Great review.. can go to bed happy now lol
Been waiting on this one👌
Damn man! Youre Reaction are Candx to my eyes and ears! 🖤
Questions!!!amazing song by system of a down
Been waiting for this reaction and I didnt notice till now that you reacted to it lol
If you haven't seen The Shawshank Redemption, you don't know squat about prison. Such a great movie
Love the fact that you’ve just found SOAD 🤙Your next SOAD songs should dive away from Toxicity and go through their first album, Sugar, W.A.R, Spiders just to name a few songs! Keep going dude 🤘
"I buy my crack, my smack, my b*tch right here in HW"...love this song. Gets the blood flowing. SUGAR is a fav of mine too.
Lonely Day! Lonely Day! Lonely Day!
Violent crime has gone down 60% since 1970 while the number of people incarcerated has gone up 5 TIMES. Oh, and the cost of federal prisons has gone up from $600M or so in 1970 to more than $8BILLION in 2016. Amazing.
and the crowd is going NUTZ! hahaha
This is a GREAT one !! I think this is the first song on the album if I'm not mistaken. Anyways a Great One !!
System of a Down are the kings of transitions
Makes me so happy to see you enjoy this :)
2001...Birmingham UK - one best pits ever been in!!!! 🤘
Actual timeline aside I've always felt like SOAD was like the MUCH ANGRIER and darker big brother band of Rage.
Like they spent years listening to big bro talk about the world and were like, WE'RE IN BRO.
Could just be me 🤷🏻♂️
When it is time, after you are done with these foundational works, know that, after over a decade with no new music, SOAD got back together recently for two new songs. You will not be disappointed.
Wait WHAT??!!!?! off to Spotify I go. Thank you for this information!!!
Make sure you listen to the album version for clarity. Glad you're seeing more of your world.
Hope you were ready lol I'm Alaska native and this made since to me at the age of 11. I'm a metal fan but more revolution metal
Do System of a Down, “chic n Stu” or “this cocaine makes me feel like I’m on this song”
Your on a huge SOAD kick it's super fun
This album came out right around the time that 9/11 happened. The statistics from this song have gotten so much worse since then. System of a Down always keeps it real.
Stay Gold MrLboyd
The thingy is bro THESE ARE TRUE FAXXXXX, prison system nearly doubled since 85, and nearly 2M Americans in prison, all that
Also to answer your question on who’s building the prisons? ITS THE MAN, T-HE M-AN Uncle Sam and the govt
SUGAR from their self titled album is prob my favorite
love your video intro it looks sick
