    • @xxwhatevahxx
      @xxwhatevahxx 3 года назад +1

      No, you dont have to, as long as it doesnt explode or something this should be a very good winter tire....
      There are 3 things that makes a good winter tire:
      1 - COMPOUND, touch the blocks with 1 finger, it should feel soft and bend (it should be softer than summer tires & all-season tires), this is why Winter tires grip well in cold temps, it also works in unison with flexible cuts/sips & blocks to vibrate/shake thru snow.
      2 - PATTERN, grooves should exist sideways all the way to the middle section almost, this is for the snow to be squished out & for braking.
      3 - CUTS/SIPS, on all the blocks, these vibrate/flex as you drive and just dig in & spit out snow for max road contact (grip) even on ice.

    If you look real close you'll notice that the tiny sipes do not travel the full depth of the tread depth. This is very important cause after that initial tread wears out those little sipes disappear and you do not have that grip level anymore. Look for a tire that the siping travels all the way down..cheers!

      of course reviews can be fraudulent but would you risk your life with a brand that nobody ever heard of, has barely any info or documentation, no visibility??? i sure would like to know if they truly conform to our road safety codes! that would be enough . how come isnt there anything such as???

    A really good winter tire doesn't have to be the absolute best on the market. If its well built, effective, at a better price than some of the over-priced tires out there (there are many), then this is a hit. I got some with my new car this year and I'll try them out this upcoming season.

    • @BTin416
      @BTin416 Год назад +3

      @@01hondascott In short: very well. If the tire has the winter/snow symbol, it has met standards to get it. Its more important to have fresher tread than it is to focus on brand names!
      I ran Blizzaks for a long time. They were good tires, but not worth 2-3x the price over these Antares tires.
      As always, if you're going into truly extreme conditions (pure, thick ice, etc.) you are better off with a studded tire rather than focusing on a brand of studless.
      The more you pay for something does not mean it is always better! Especially if you can afford to replace these others more often and get the fresher tread that gives you better performance. Shopping for brand name simply isn't that important.

    Problem with most Chinese tires, is that while they may work very well at the beginning, they tend to not wear out very well. The sipes often don't go as deep and after a couple winters they tend to dramatically lose their grip. Quality control and tire availability (if you damage a tire and need replacement) can be a big issue too. In the end, you get what you pay for.

    • @BTin416
      @BTin416 Год назад +3

      On the contrary, its cheaper to replace these tires and get a fresh set of tread on a regular basis. Name brand winter tires cost 2-3x more, but they do NOT have 2-3x more treadwear.

    • @HCkev
      @HCkev Год назад +1

      @@BTin416 mmm no. they cost about 1.5x more for similar design and compound (You just can't compare cheap Chinese tires to, say, Nokian Hakkapeliitta's...), and they do easily last twice as long. A lot of those cheap Chinese tires already lose a lot of their ability (especially in the snow/ice) as early as 7-8/32. Michelin actually made a statement by sending worn out tires at about 3/32 to reviewers, which I really respect then for that(usually tires are tested when brand new, so you really only know how they perform when brand new).
      I wouldn't put cheap Chinese tires unless I'm at the end of a lease or I'm otherwise broke(better have brand new cheap tires than bald tires), knowing they will need to be replaced sooner to keep me safe on the road.

    I run these on my SC300 for winter in Iowa, so it can get pretty damn bad. The SC300 for anyone who doesn’t know is rear wheel drive, and mine is lowered. The tire sizes I run are 225/40R18 Front and 245/40R18 Rear.
    I had ZERO traction issues last winter, and I mean none. Not even once did the tires lack grip in any of the winter conditions. Heavy snow? Okay. Ice? Okay.
    Winter tires make the biggest difference in driving safety in winter. These are excellent for the cost, and I buy tires every month to try out different brands and compounds.
    Antares also make a very good 300TW called the A1 Ingens.
    For anyone saying that these tires aren’t safe because China... blah blah blah. You have no idea what you’re talking about and have never run a tire from China, Singapore or the like.

    Just bought some Canadian tire Winter edge tires last week .They are made at a Cooper factory in China . Seem just fine . Still were not all that cheap 225 -55-R17 came to $814.00 with installation and 5 year all pearls warranty . That was with a 25% off sale on the tires . Canada is very expensive for tires . If I can I buy in the US. Huge difference in price .

    • @BTin416
      @BTin416 Год назад +1

      Problem #1: you went to Canadian Tire, the most expensive big-box profiteer for tires in Canada. Problem #2: tire prices in the US aren't that low. Factor in currency conversion, hours of driving back and forth, lack of warranty/service in Canada and its not worth it. You can find $100 winter tires (or under $100) here in Canada (if you have reasonably sized tires on a reasonably sized vehicle, that is), usually at local shops or internet-order outfits that don't price gouge like Canadian Tire. Don't be a dum-dum: don't shop at Canadian Tire unless you're picking up discounted washer fluid or a pair of gloves. Just because they still sell tires doesn't mean its where Canadians should go for tires.

    • @don-cw1yz
      @don-cw1yz Год назад

      @@BTin416 Actually if you watch the Canadian Tire ads or are on their email list you can get some good deals on tires. Recently purchased Goodyear winter tires 17" at a good price and even a $50 rebate from Goodyear . Found some Continental tires for a friend for her SUV. Both were clearance tires and came out close to 50% off. But when looking for truck tires I went with Quattro tire.The selection at Cdn.Tire was not that great. Fair pricing and they ship to a installation partner near my home. The selection is great. No I would not put cheap tires on a truck that was $94,000. tax in. The US used to be a good deal for Canadians years ago when the CDN $ was par but things change. I have noticed that the tire manufacturers are offering rebates now in Canada.Probably to combat the cheaper imported tires and Canadians were going to the US for tires so the Canadian dealers probably bitched a lot or brought in cheaper imported tires. It's like anything as a consumer you shop around for quality and price.

    the problem with the chinese tires is that you have no idea if they use quality material in every tire. you might get a set that's amazing, the next one will burst on the highway, or one tire will wear out much faster than the rest. they have very little quality control in their factories, which is why they can use cheaper materials and ignore defects, then use cheap shipping that we subsidize (a long story there).
    if you have kids ESPECIALLY, i would recommend you stick with known American, Canadian, or Finnish brands.

Most tires are not Made in the USA or so called American tires are now owned by a foreign company. Example: Michelin are a French company that also owns BF Goodrich. Firestone is owned by Bridgestone in Japan. General which also makes Continental are a German company. Do your homework people before commenting. I am looking at trying some "Chinese tires" on one of my cars for the winter .Reason I am fed up with "world" pricing by tire companies in Canada . The price for tires in Canada is nuts . Those Chinese tires don't look so bad to me . I would like to try them and make up my own mind . I don't drive a huge amount in the winter ,and I adjust my speed in bad weather . I will look for the best brand of Chinese tires . If they are no good I will not buy again . Then I can drive across the border and buy tires at half price in the US . Canadian retailers must realize Canada is not an island .

      Hey I won't buy the Joy Luck brand but if there is a brand that happens to be from China ,Indonesia or even Russia that produces a decent tire I am willing to try them . I am just pissed off at the difference in price b/w Canada and the US . I bought tires in the US a couple of years ago for $465.00 Cdn.$ .The exact same tires in Canada were $1200.00 . Major Tire manufacturers are pricing way too high in Canada . It is not just tires it is also a lot of consumer goods . Just picked up a 30 gallon compressor in the US last week for $345.00 ( Cdn.$ ) vs $674.00 in Canada .Exact same Husky compressor . Like I said Canada is not an island . I order nearly all my car parts from the US now . Price difference is huge . Paid posts,Iwish!

      don684 Don't judge a tire by how it looks rather than how it performs.

    • @don-cw1yz
      @don-cw1yz 6 лет назад

      I try to buy in the US now . More than 1/2 less the price than in Canada . Nuts ! We are getting hosed on tires in Canada. Frankly I think you will see more and more Chinese /indonesian tires sold in Canada .Reason is the "world pricing" practices of major tire companies . In other words charge what the market will bare. People just can't afford the prices they are charging . Plus as the population ages ,they tend to drive less ,so the Chinese tires may not last as long but if you wear them out in 6 years no big deal. Those imported tires do have to pass Canadian standards .

    Is a cheap Chinese designed and made snow tire safe? Yes. It will not fly to bits on you if properly inflated and maintained.
    Does a cheap Chinese designed and made snow tire offer better winter traction than a worn set of name brand winters or any set of all-seasons? Absolutely.
    Is a cheap Chinese designed and made snow tire the same as getting a Bridgestone Blizzak or Michelin XIce? Heck no. The difference is in the details and in a cheap tire no matter where its made they don't spend a lot of time on the details.
    In a real-world, side-by-side comparison test in variable conditions tires like these will not perform at the level of top major brand tires. Are they good enough for less demanding drivers though? Yeah.
    Adequate, not brilliant.

      The only tires I've seen with self-destruction built in are American tires like Firestones. It was so bad they've rebranded most of their tires Bridgestone now and have tried to get rid of the Firestone name. Cheaply made, expensive American tires that are all marketing are what I'd avoid.

    • @MFitz12
      @MFitz12 Год назад +1

      @@BTin416 - Most of that is not true. After working in the tire industry for 2 decades I have a few things to say about that.
      The Firestone Wilderness AT - while never my favorite tire - was only defective if you mounted it on a Ford Explorer. On a Ford Ranger, Chevy Silverado or Burban - no problem. And apparently only if you mounted it on the left rear of a Ford Explorer at that.
      Doesn't seem to me it was a tire problem.
      But Firestone took the fall for it and Ford Explorers kept blowing out left rear tires only now you didn't hear about it because it was scores of different brands of tire, not just one.
      But I saw them.
      Bridgestone is the parent company of Firestone. The Bridgestone and Firestone tire lineups did not change significantly after the recall and no Firestone tires got rebranded as Bridgestone's.
      Firestone did come out with the LH30 passenger car tire which was excellent,... and massively overbuilt. Damn those things were heavy. Then to replace the Wilderness line with the similarly overbuilt and also excellent Destination LE and A/T. That tire line is currently in its 3rd generation and performing extremely well.
      Firestone Service Centers still has hundreds of locations throughout the country. None of them got re-branded either.
      Firestone is and has been for years the title sponsor for the Indy Car racing series.
      The brand is as strong or stronger now than ever.
      And Ford still makes shit cars.
