    They're popular because they're inexpensive, stretch well, They're offered in some relatively oddball sizes, they grip for days and they have nice sidewall & tread designs.

      Exactly, they look amazing. The only downsides are slightly weak wet performance and they are a bit noisy. At least the NS20's on my MK1 Golf are.

    I agree for the most part with this video but anyone looking for a serious track day tire should take a serious look at the Nankang NS2-R and the AR-1. They're more popular in Europe and are almost universally held in high regard as an excellent value for money performance tire. They are also used in motorsport. Check those two models out.

    • @thatcopenguy
      @thatcopenguy Год назад

      Yup! Nankang AR1 & NS2R are some of the most popular budget-ish semi-slick in Europe. For my car Nankang is the only option in stock size ( both AR1 and NS2R come in ridiculously small 165/50R15 )
      They also don't need a lot of heat before working optimally so it's great for me who don't do many back-to-back laps.
      AR1 tread also looks sexy as hell 🔥

    Thanks for the great review of Nankang. After hours of comparison videos I was ready to buy Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport 235/35 R19 for our Audi S3 (MY15). I had been advised on a service and inspection last week that the left rear was lower tread than the rest and probably only had 5,000 km left in it. I was ready to sacrifice all other tyres on the car and get 4 new ones at a cost of $1,100.00 AUD. I had to check the brand on the front as I new that they were a Chinese brand that had only been added 2 years ago; Nankang. I have never had a problem with these tyres losing traction like quite often happens with the Continental tyres in the rear of an AWD car. I'm now thinking of getting 2 Nankang on the rear only as the fronts still look relatively new with ample tread. These only cost $154 AUD each. Every time someone works on my car they feel the need to comment on the cheap tyres on the front. Tyre shops included. Sure, they sell the brand, and they'll sell anything to anyone, but they don't know how good they actually are. They just see them as a cheap tyre.

    I ran a set of half worn nankangs, the texture was actually picture perfect, and razor sharp. The veterans told me that the tires are slippery. To my experience they were gripy at a more excessive angle, like if a typical road tire has a lateral grip angle of 4-6 degrees, it felt as if the set I ran had a grip angle of maybe 8 -10 which to me felt actually more fun and forgiving, because the grip was more aggressive. The tires felt like the car was more responsive overall, just the extra grip at an exponential angle...

One day I'm merging onto freeway on a soaking wet onramp, ass end slides out and I'm thinking "OK, these are shit tires in the rain" I get home, look at the tires and they're BALD! So then I'm thinking "Well maybe they didn't last long then", I find the receipt and they're just over 3yrs old. They wore perfectly flat and I'd never known they were bald until I slid...unlike when some 20's I'd bought already had Lexani's on them and they were garbage due to sidewall buckling and flatspotting when parked.
    I've upgraded to the NS-25 since the NS-20 lasted so well (I also needed to go down sidewall size due to rubbing and they didn't have NS20 in the size I needed) and I'm looking into getting them on my X5M as well.

    I've had Nankang NS-20 225/40 R18 on my car for about a year with harsh driving and am now switching over to the new NS-25. The last winter freeze we had here in Portland was a breeze with the NS-20 tires and they did not slips even once, and that's on a 2012 Scion XB. Meanwhile I'm seeing Subarus and Jeeps stuck all over on the sides of the roads. For the price, they are EXCELLENT tires and with daily driving they work fantastically. Just don't expect them to perform like a $300 tire.

      Might have to take a look at those NS-20's for my car this winter we are in Wisconsin and the winters can get pretty gnarly!

    The AR-1 is better than all the comparable tires from the more expensive brands, crazy grip.

    Do you think we can get a video on the best looking tyres? You know, aesthetically pleasing sidewalls/tread patterns, the way the tread wraps around the edges ect. There's this Mk5 Golf GTI in my town with BBS CH wheels on it, the fitment and stance is on point but every time I see the tyres I damn near jizz and I don't know why. I don't know what the brand is because I haven't got a close enough look but there's just something about them that looks right, they're not too beefy, they're not very stretched but they just look like a full on track weapon setup and really completes the look. Care to do a video on this?

    had some Nankang tires, dont remember which model but one of the front tires became out of round
    ( there was a lump in the middle of the thread ). The other 3 were good. got some Nexen N3000 ( discontinued) to replace
    and were way better, quiet and gripped good.

    Shoutouts to FI from Taiwan where Nankang tires are from. It's actually pronounced as "Nan-Gong" FYI. I know it sounds weird, but it's the closest to its mandarin Chinese pronunciation. The alphabet spelling systems in Taiwan are messed up sometimes lol. Happy to see Nankang tires included in one of your videos.

      They holding up well - 10,000 miles on them - road noise is a bit loud - I use them here in New England for the Colder weather but are a great year round choice with plenty of grip in all temp ranges and rain - i would buy them again.

    Do a comparison on nankang with Yokohama tires. Im getting new tires soon and need information on both.

    • @WRXMK
      @WRXMK 3 года назад +1

      Yokohama are one of the best tyre brands in the world. Yokohama produce some excellent tyres. Yokohama are personally my favourite. I might be 2 years late, but if you are on a tighter budget, Nankangs will do the job just fine. They are solid mid range tyres that will last the test of time. If you want to spend more money, Yokohama is the way to go.

    So... I'm a little bit Stuck to nankang because they are (or were) the only ones to make a 185/45 15 Tire. So I fitted them. Drove them. Learned to love them. Best bang for buck you can get. Awesome stretch abilities... and when you went too far on that camber it doesnt matter they wear out after 2000 miles... they are cheap.
