- Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch. This week, Max is in the host seat, joined by Brian Altano from IGN's PlayStation podcast, Beyond, and Stella Chung, from IGN's Unlocked podcast. The topic: the PS5 Pro leak and is it even worth it if it-reportedly-can't play GTA 6 at 60fps? And even if it could, how much would it be worth to you? all they've done is overclocked the chip, very easy in Pc terms which essentially is what consoles are using now in terms of architecture
If you dont own a ps5, its a waste of money, the ps6 will be here soon after as was the ps5 after ps4 pro.

We are like almost 4 years in with the PS5. The first console still is new to me to be honest.

@StalkerAndroid18 if only. Will the developers of games go back and make them 4k 60fps or just leave it. Look at rdr2 on current gen ps5 and series x. They're locked at their last gen upgraded models. Ps5 is stuck at 1440p ps4 pro version at 30fps and the series x is locked at 4k one x version also at 30fps. Even though they're both capable of 4k 60fps or at least performance mode could.

You can play as much 60fps on pc as you want at a comparable price to Console if you know what to look for.

Also insiders have said that Sony is going the same route as the slim with the attachable disk drive version being $599 and the digital will be $499. They are also aiming to cut the price of the standard PS5/Slim as well.

Digital Foundry don't really have all of the details of the PS5 Pro. They are speculating. They don't even know what implementation the GPU is. They only know that the GPU is clocked lower in certain situations.
It’s not speculation, the specs have been leaked, pro is still going to have a weak CPU no point buying games are still going to struggle

This convinced me to wait for PS6 or wait for the exclusives on PC/Steam.
Weak CPU is a massive disappointment. Frame generation won’t help when your CPU is pathetic. Case in point, Dragon Dogma 2. PCs just power through when consoles are locked at 30 FPS and below.
PC is also below 40 in DD2 cities even with 500 dollars CPU... The only thing that will get you out of that unoptimized mess of a game is the frame gen mod.
Ps4 pro and ps5 relied on checkerboard rendering to boost resolution, so hopefully their new upscaler is better
After what it took to get my PS5 I'm never giving it up exchanging it or upgrading it beyond the two terabytes worth of memory I've already put in it. It is what it is until the PS6.

If it is an improvement…if..at this point just wait another year or two to release a new model entirely. Given the supply issues for both current generations and the over-sell that was both, then just double down on making whatever comes next worth buying

I'm more curious about a new switch but the ps5's development journey is interesting. Ps5 seems all over the place. Too many console refreshes for a limited game library.

Sony isn't meeting their own sales goals at the current prices. An even more expensive console isn't going to turn that around for them.
Ps5 pro is definitely worth the purchase for the Ai PSSR if it really improve visual quality In performance modes of games

Hmm CPU can overclock boost by 10% , X3 more tflops graphics, faster memory, better ray trace cores, upscaling like fsr, ai cores. Did you even read the specs lol? Not worth the upgrade????? That's like a pc user taking out their 3060ti and putting in a 3080. Then taking their 5700 to a 5800x .Are you ok? Look at it more like a pc. Cause it basically is now.

Does hardware power really matter if all of the resources go to graphics? No matter how powerful the hardware is it wouldn't reach 60 if you prioritize graphics and then try and figure out the FPS right?
There's no need for a Pro model if nothing but incremental upgrades have been made.
This is a lot more than incremental. This is not a group that understands tech very well.
@@DeesBees85It's definitely incremental. You'd think going from 10 tflops to 16 tflops is a lot, but it's really not, especially if trying to do 4k gaming. That's like going from an RTX 3060 (which is technically more powerful still) to an RTX 3060 ti.. an almost 4 year old low-to-mid GPU.
The real appeal would be if PSSR is more useful than FSR. If PSSR can achieve a similar visual quality to DLSS then it could be a potential game changer. But don't expect a mindblowing improvement in overall performance based on the GPU specs.

@@TheRambossa noob? Who says noob in 2024? Of course tflops don't tell you the whole picture. But you're wrong. The 33.5 Tflops is referring to the raytracing capability, which isn't that much. The 3060 has 25 RT-Tflops for instance, and the 3060 Ti has 32 RT-Tflops. So it's still on the older last gen end of the performance spectrum. My 4 year old RTX 3070 has 40 RT-tflops..
So maybe learn what specs you're actually referring to before commenting.

Native 4K60 without compromised graphic details isn't going to happen on this generation. 4K upscaled from 1440P and limited ray tracing at 60fps will be the best outcome we could hope.

Series x can do both 4k and 60fps for doom and doom eternal, gears 5, halo infinte, titanfall 2, ori, and tons of other games.

Weird how people are already making their decision before is official reveal, knowing what games will be releasing at launch and shortly after that can benefit from it, and seeing what the machine can actually do for past and future games. Might be worth it and it might not for some people. People are over reactionary.

Doesn't make sense. There's all kinds of custom hardware in there, which is a lot of work for one game. Pro models didn't sell as well as the regular models last generation. Anyone who dismisses this as a cash grab needs to think more.

Seems to be a lot of misinformation the aim of the ps5 pro is to play game at 4k 60/120 fps with ray tracing something the ps5 cannot do, if you are happy with 30 fps then stick with the ps5.
There is alot of games you can play 4k at 120fps

Gta6 will do 60 fps at 1440p and 30fps with 4k and ray tracing on ps5

It actually gives it more graphic fidelity and a performance mode that allows the CPU to perform slightly better than the Xbox Series X. They ain't gonna reach those fps targets unless it's old games.

You can look at the images that Rockstar uploaded, and analyse things like pixel density, framecount, and use graphical artifacts to see what the source framerate and resolution was.
They are not randomly claiming things like Kotaku. Thats why people take Digital foundry seriously.

A preview of a game that's in active development doesn't tell you anything. It literally says it will change.
The console hasn't even been announced.
Sony and Rockstar have had a great relationship for many years.
Mark Cerny has made it a point to talk to all major developers since he's been designing consoles. If you don't think he spent a lot of time with Rockstar when designing the pro, you're crazy. Anyone can see how big of an opportunity this is.
People are underestimating the PSSR. EA said it was exceeded their expectations. They had Jedi Survivor running at 4k 120fps, zero hiccups, with minimal effort

If GTA6 is actually going to do the budget game move and not have a performance mode like many actual AAA games has then it should in fact be regarded as a budget game.

Sorry, but Ps4 Pro "could" render and output at 4k 60 Hz with HDR, but only if you gave it something very easy to render like a single cube with no texture. Just because something is able to do it, doesn't mean it can do it well.

More optimizations will not fundamentally change the fact that games are struggling to hit even 720p in performance model.
If the ps4Pro was launched because 1080p was too blurry for 4K screens, then the PS5Pro is more than justified.

Yeah not a bad idea, like what they did with the PS2. The PS2 was the least powerful of it's generation, but won, not because of amazing graphics, but exclusives and amazing games.
They've basically done the best they can without making it astronomically expensive, losing back compat and/or making it difficult for developers.
People seem to want it to be a PS6.
Honestly, this gen has been a massive disappointment, it feels like a stopgap gen between PS4 and PS6 while they're trying to figure out what to do next. Hopefully, we will see really big leaps when the PS6 rolls around, as it sure wasn't this gen.

Games?! Well, PS5 has recently released Hell Divers 2, Rise of the Ronin and FF7 Rebirth plus 3rd party games like Tekken 8, Alone in the Dark, Dragons Dogma 2 etc…they’re pushing out more games than Xbox is.

Sarah Bond has the right idea just make the most powerful console possible alongside a cheaper version every few years. This way everyone is happy people who want the best experience will buy the series x2 and people who just want to play the latest games will buy the series s2.

My ps5 with vrr hitting 4k ~43fps is fine
Xbox 360 and Ps3 had like 4 models this mid gen refresh is not last gen new. In fact Nintendo Gameboy was freshed many of times before the DS came out and then the Ds and 3ds all had mid gen fresh.
Sony should’ve took a page from Nintendo and just waited. Look at what Nintendo did. They honestly had plans to release their next generation Nintendo switch this year probably last year is what they had theorized and then they said we can just wait. Games today aren’t pushing our platforms to the limit. We just only recently started seeing games that are this generation only. Even the best of the best games we love this year had issues because we haven’t earned all the kinks out of these platforms and now we want a new one.
It seems like a decent jump in graphical power, cpu not so much.
That said, this isnt the mainstream console, it will exist alongside the normal slim version.
You dont need to buy this if you dont think its for you.

The PS4 Pro was released 3 years after the PS4, not 4 years. The PS5Pro has already been delayed by a year because of the situations.
