She is 💯 ! It's kind of like having locs that can be deconstructed. I've been doing this and glad to see others discovering it. I wash my hair weekly but refresh the braids every 1-2 months. The growth after this period is magical
I tried braids but the time I took taking them out to wash my hair became a chore, I couldn't/can't leave them in when I wash because my 4c hair tangles so much! I'm glad it works for some people though!
I agree! Throughout quarantine, after cutting my hair into a blunt bob Halloween 2020, my hair grew back so fast from mini braids. From a bob to armpit by just washing and braiding it. I do stretch my hair though with either cool or low heat. When my hair is stretched less fairy knots. I leave my braids in for 2/3 weeks, let my hair out for a day or two, and then I wash it. 🙂
I agree mini braids and twists are the magic. I am doing it now and the results are amazing Barbie. Thanks for sharing, love love your hair my afro queen.

Yes!! I can't have my braids too small, otherwise my hair gets matted really easily. I also like to have the easy access to my scalp. I need to work on keeping in for longer periods of time. I love doing my hair and had been doing it every week. I still grew my hair from bra strap to tailbone in a year, but I wonder if it would've grown longer had I kept them in for longer periods... So glad to see other naturals doing this!!
I experience the exact same thing. I don’t like my braids too small at all. I don’t keep them longer than two weeks at most. I want to keep my hair in mini braids a lot this year and see how much hair I will grow. Girl, your hair grew from bra strap to tailbone in a year😳.
This is super true mini braids do the job, it's even better in my opinion than using strand because the stands pull ur roots but mini braids you can easily control the tension
Wow, I LOVE your hair! I've been cutting my hair ever since I went natural, but I want to grow my hair out and I'm so excited having learnt the different styles I can use on my hair and that it CAN be manageable naturally. I'll definitely try mini braids when it's long enough. Thank you and you're so beautiful ✨❤️❤️❤️
OMG your hair is absolutely incredible!! I love how it looks in this video. Would love to see a video of the process you go through to achieve this look, i.e. when you take it out of the mini braids
Yeas. I recently combed out my locs and my hair is wrecked! My hair has length, and it's thick, but my hair in a healthy state is much thicker.. since I've been natural for over 10 yrs and 4 of those yrs being loc'd I'm going this route to get my hair to recover. I don't want any kind of hair extensions in my head, so I will be leaning more on mini braids (also taking hairfinity pills) I co wash every wk, and I spray with water oil everyday. Wish me luck!
Sounds like a great plan. I think mini braids help a lot as a low manipulative style and just for the sake of giving your hair a break. So making your regimen simple and consistent should help with your hair journey. I am wishing you the best of luck, I think you are on the right path of caring and growing your hair. Thank you for sharing with us.
I cannot say the same because my hair in twists as a long term protective style doesn't work for this hair. By the time I take them down, they are matted, tangled and frizzy. My hair can't have them in for a long time.
@@BarbaraBirungiSunflower I don't keep one style for so long, I change my hairstyles every two weeks because I wash my hair every two weeks and I easily got tired of any hairstyle so I love switching my hairstyles maybe because I'm not paying for them that's why, I am my own stylist.
It works best for me than braids. My hair is high porosity and taking down the braids is like hold torns 🤣🤣🤣 it hurts lol. I braid the root then rope twist the ends. I can get up to 2 months with them. I just redo the edges and keep them stretched.
Is no one going to talk about how exotic and gorgeous and radiant you are!! Breath taking beauty!! 🙌🏿😍✨ I love your hair queen I too am going to be protective styling with mini braids.
Barbara, you have a beautiful head of hair😍 The care and gentleness you show towards your hair is surely paying off. You are making us fall in love with our own 4c hair because of the tips and advices you share👌My go to protective style is cornrows at the moment.
Thank you so much for the encouragement. I am glad to hear this because I want you all to fall madly in love with your 4c 4a 4b hair. I do not know how to Conrow girl. You better teach me how to do that.
New subbie here. Ooh, you are so pretty. I love your accent and your afro is beautiful. I agree wearing plaits does wonders for protecting your hair and they last awhile too. 😘
I have had good luck with me twist. Because after 2 weeks my hair starts to lock so when it's twisted I can take a loose a twist comb it, put the twist back and do that all over my entire head you know as needed and wash it all it and all that stuff while they're in the twist.
I get it. Twists tangle up easily for me too and they can be annoying to detangle after awhile of having them. I can’t keep twists in for a week because I know that’s going to be hard for me to get the tangles out. But I like washing my hair in twists for sure
Omg, my hair grew so much in two months of doing the mini twists. I found out for me, protein treatment before shampoo and conditioner helps soo much! Blue Magic and a leave in are the final touches. I add shea butter or blue Magic as my oil! LCO ‼️😊
My hair grew a lot from wearing them, I made the mistake of wearing my curly without getting a trim for 2/ months and I lost a lot of hair due to breakage. Got it cut, now they are going into braids until my next cut.
Hey this is a great video and advice, do u have a link for the product you used to massage your roots with? I think that is something I’m missing out on 😩😩😩
I do sometimes especially when I have not detangled my hair properly but if you have this problem more often, it is very important that you care for your hair first by detangling it well from the roots to the ends paying more attention to the roots that are matted. Matted roots can also be used by the styles that you are putting your hair in. You want to make sure that after washday, your hair is put in a good protective style that cares for your roots and ends. Make sure to pay attention to your matted roots by moisturising them. Try putting your hair in medium braids using your hair after washing and deep conditioning your hair and let me know how that goes.
@@BarbaraBirungiSunflower I have tried all that before, but now my hair is in twists. I'll try to get a steam cap or heat up my DC before using. My hair is at bra length (just above) so I must be going something right overall lol. I don't want to relax my hair, and I dont think I will, but I just need to find a solution. Do you stretch your hair before installing braids? Is it dry and stretched when braiding or do you add products that make it really moist before you braid? And how long do you leave it in before you start noticing tangles roots?
Great! This channel will help you achieve that darling. You can do this. Don’t lose hope. Your hair will grow if you find simple things you can do to your hair.

True true! Twists great too many tangles for me but now I have learnt to put on a few mini braids for easy take down and also doesn't take me long to braid my hair. I keep the mini braids for as long as I want.
I’ve had my braids in for 2 weeks and I just washed them but the ends are literally becoming locs (like the coil at the end) and the hair is frizzing so much. I wanted to push for 1 month or more like I typically do with other styles but I’m a little concerned now. I don’t know what I did wrong because I’m used to keeping protective styles in for months but this is different.
It could a lot of things happening. You may need to dust your ends a little so they don't tangle up or mate up. You may also need to focus your moisturiser on your ends mostly. The frizz Is normal when you have your hair in mini braids as long as your hair is moisturised. That's what matters. When I wash my mini braids, I will automatically experience frizz but that's why I have them on for two weeks then re-do them afresh for the next two weeks. The whole point for me with mini braids is to grow and protect my hair. I know they won't be cute all the time and I expect frizz because its my hair- not extensions!
Next time twist the ends up. If I don't do that the same thing happens to me. Dust your ends if needed (cut any straggly strands) then keep the ends moisturized and tucked.
I second twisting the ends or just braiding way down. I started twirling my ends whilst moisturising and sealing, leading to coils and I couldn't help but notice they were difficult to unravel than when I just Moisturised and left my ends loose and didn't essentially finger coil them
