    My paternal aunt who I adored was a very fortunate and well-educated, lovely woman who really taught me alot about the "other side" of life and appreciating nice things. I'm glad I grow up experiencing both qualities of life. While I'm not high maintenance at all I do gravitate towards the finer things in life. And I believe that knowing certain gentries and being cultured will allow a person to be more fluid and open for new opportunities in life. I don't have any kids yet but when I do my girls will definitely be spending a summer in a finishing school. Thanks for the upload! ❤

      Dear Gloria,
      I have a very important question .
      If asked questions that may bring up an embarrassing, unpleasant or potentially dangerous answer, by the host at a very formal dinner event , is it more polite and well mannered to elude the question, lie or tell the truth in spite of the consequences .
      I had dinner in Saudi Arabia , the land of your lovely tea set , and was invited to dinner by a representative of the UN there who is also by definition a colleague as i work for the same organization . It was supposed to be an informal dinner , but when i showed up , many high dignitaries were there and some members of the royal family . I am a 43 years old man with a wedding ring at my finger . So i was asked about my wife , and kids . I answered that my family was at home , that i was married to a Japanese and had 4 kids which is true . I was asked again many question about my family throughout dinner , because it seems to be a very light topic in the middle east where people are very family oriented . The thing is that i am married to a Japanese man not woman (the kids are adopted) , and Saudi Arabia is not exactly the land of the LGBT rights movement , actually homosexuality can even be punished by death there . No need to say that by the end of this dinner not only was I starting to feel like the character in Midnight Express but also that i had also made up a beautiful story about my lovely wife Mariko and her lovely Kimono and graceful manners , and on how wonderful Japanese ladies were and what remarkable wives and hostesses they could be . Of course i will eventually have to meet those people again, which puts me in an extremely difficult situation . And i know that there will be other dinner parties and formal events for me in the Middle East . So i would love to have our opinion on the matter . Elude he question and if so , how ? Lie ? or be honest and risk jail time or possible death penalty ?
      I couldn't be more serious .

      So sorry for the delayed response. I am just now reading your comments. I may have said that my family is very precious to me. Please respect the privacy of my family. Thank you. Then I would have started another topic.

    I purchased a book last year, at a large annual flea market, titled Present Day Etiquette. It was printed in the 1930s and I thought it might be a nice glimpse into the past! Well, I've always loved traditional manners and such and since reading that book I've found my self studying etiquette as a hobby and slowly teaching what I know to the kids I work with (mostly just in our tea parties as they'd rather just play all day :) ). I'm very happy to find your videos here online and you can bet I'll be watching them one right after the other! Thanks for sharing them with us :)

    Wow, impressive. Proper (there is nothing wrong with properness . . . Order)!
    We as a society must realize that MANNERS never go out of style.
    🤔 Most people need to know these "things" for at least one memorable event in their lives.
    People today are in such a hurry to do things; thus, we resort to: paper plates, cups, napkins, etc., to avoid washing dishes or we do fast foods to avoid cooking!!!
    Thank you Etiquette TEACHER for educating me in the finer things of life. I should have viewed these videos years ago when I attended lots of banquets and formal corporate affairs.
    But, better late than never. Plus, I can make sure my next generation know these things.

    I was eating at Costes in Paris with a couple of friends last summer and next to our table was a bunch of extremely ill mannered tourists . After about 30 minutes and 5 very audible burps coming from our extremely loud neighbours , i really couldn't take it and walked to their table kindly suggesting that before eating at Costes or any restaurant for that matter they might maybe benefit from the services of and etiquette coach . To which one of them answered , if i'm going to learn etiquette i will choose etiquette Business or First . I didn't understand it at first , then burst out laughing , thinking the joke was actually hilarious , unfortunately he didn't understand my hilarity, and i sadly realized this person was actually being serious. So i went back to my table with a nice dinner parties story .

    What happens to the cutlery when the next course arrives? Do I have to pick it up and keep it for the next meal or the waiter will?

    • @ExpertGloriaStarr
      @ExpertGloriaStarr  7 лет назад +10

      When you are finished with the current course, place your used utensils on the plate. The wait staff will remove these items and will bring you a new set of utensils for the next course that will be served.

    Kindly teach how to eat in buffet. For this you have to be in restaurant and make live video. Buffet etiquette is highly needed. Complimentary breakfast etiquette is also required as there use to be so many items from different countries to eat and we do not know what to pick.

      Yes, I agree and I have both the tiny cups for Arabic coffee and the glass tea cups and saucers for tea.
      I enjoy the Arabic culture and the food. GloriaStarr.com

    Please make a separate dessert video using very tall, stemmed dessert dishes and show where to put the fork and spoon when the dessert is finished.

    Hello Gloria I was wondering about something you had said in your video, about cutting only once. Well what if you where having steak or lamb and it needed to be cut with more then one stroke? what do I do?

    Any suggestions on Saudi Arabian online stores? I have similar cups, but they're champagne andtumblers. I'd love some coffee cups and saucers to complete the set.

      My preference is to purchase in a store so I can hold the cups. The Middle East has lovely china sets in the stores!

    You put knives on the right of the plate and forks on the left but where do you put spoons for soup or foods other then dessert?

    • @justquirkythoughts7209
      @justquirkythoughts7209 6 лет назад

      WorldOfEmmi The dessert spoon would be above the dinner plate and the soup spoon would be to the left of the dinner knife and (this might be optional) the teaspoon.
