    • @Quagthistle
      @Quagthistle Год назад +8

      This is a direct result of the "No Child Left Behind" movement (which was Bush Jr.'s work, btw, though it had good intentions). The idea was that children who are disciplined are more likely to drop out and be "left behind" and end up in gangs and prisons. They thought the way to prevent that was to make sure no child got left behind. However, without curing the socioeconomic issues that often lead to poor school performance and with a constantly-diminishing amount of real mental health services (replaced by mere pill-pushing by doctors and psychological clinics), there was nothing teachers could do but take away instructional time from those who did want to learn to help those who could not or would not. Furthermore, the greater scrutiny on disciplinary actions (which were often used unfairly in the past) caused misbehavior to run rampant. This was going on for over a DECADE before Covid, but few outside schools noticed and the lowly teachers in schools were powerless to do anything about it.
      TL;DR - This isn't because of "liberal policies". It's because of fiscal austerity, pure and simple, and that's a conservative doctrine, not a liberal one.

      @@Popirnot More than half of Gen Z has been clinically diagnosed with a form of anxiety. Crippling anxiety to the point where they can’t even call to schedule a doctor’s appt as an adult. The struggle to call any business, for that matter, or simply refuse to contact anyone if it isn’t via text or online. The inability to stand up for themselves to rude customers or their employer when they’re mistreated at work. Then there’s the fact that fewer teens are getting a driver license due to a fear of driving than kids just 20 years ago. The need for safe spaces.
      Our generation has coddled our kids and protected them from experiencing hardship or failure, how to manage feelings of frustration and disappointment, or how to learn from these experiences. A lot of us didn’t force our kids to get jobs as teens. So while kids were being overly protected by their parents at home, they’re also missing out on learning adult expectations like showing up to work on time, following another authority figure’s (boss) direction, having personal accountability to other people besides their family members, or earning a raise for work well done vs being fired for consistently breaking the rules. Too many parents bought their kids stuff in excess, again not teaching them how to appreciate things they purchase themselves through saving money they earned from their own hard work. These kids are then sent out into the world where many of them fail or struggle to be self-sufficient and resilient due to a lack of coping skills. So yes, anxiety.

    I truly wish as part of their court appearance they would be required to watch their arrest recording while standing in front of the judge, and have the judge say "well what do you have to say for yourself?" Maybe if these were shown in court not so many of their charges would end up being dropped, that way the judge can see what the cops had to put up with for themselves.

She fought with family for throwing out her drugs and then got pulled over with her friend and gave the officers a hard time and tried (very ineffectively) to flee. She was mouthy and disrespectful and even got admonished by her dad, who showed up at her request. Not sure she’ll learn from that experience either. 🙄
