    For the part at 21:00 , I found that it works to use "Scale 1D" within the Transform menu to make that round object a bit more ovular like the reference. Loving these tuts as someone just approaching CAD work, thanks a ton!

    Nice. Tricky software. Maybe the revolve at the start should have included the half round you had problems with. Who knows the secret of the green green grass.

    Seriously great video. I love this software it works very well with a trackpad by default.

      Thank you! I like MoI3D a lot, too. Haven't really used it though since I started with Blender. Glad you liked the video!

    Hi Wolf - a question: where do I find the images I need to download? mechanical rod etc...?

      Hello Robert,
      did you try the dropbox link in the video description? It should still work.

    Where can I find pictures like this? Thank you for your video.

    • @Wolf-4D
      @Wolf-4D  3 года назад

      On Google, sometimes. A lot of ideas for my tutorials come from other sources though as images often are rare. There's free kitbash sehts, for example. Sketchup warehouse and Grabcad are other sources for inspiration for these tutorials. A lot of these are based on other 3D objects rather than images.

      @@Wolf-4D Yes I do that also. I would like to know how you managed to have the picture grayscale?

    • @Wolf-4D
      @Wolf-4D  3 года назад

      @@steampunkriveted8000 I rendered the reference image in Cinema 4D. The object has a plain white material, there's no background or lighting, just the C4D standard light, and I switched on ambient occlusion. That grayscale effect is caused by the standard light (which, in C4D, is not a "real" light, and partly by the AO.

      @@emaeshka Maya is a difficult software to learn. I've never tried it since I'm mostly using Cinema 4D, but I've learned modeling in C4D watching 3ds Max and Maya tutorials. Never did any 2D work. MoI, by comparison, feels a lot more intuitive and easier to pick up than most other 3D packages. .

    • @Wolf-4D
      @Wolf-4D  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you very much! No, I haven't tried Blender (yet). With Maxon's current pricing and general policy as well as the half-assed patchwork development of C4D, it's probably just a matter of time until I will...

      @@jean_mollycutpurse_winchester Might be worth a shot. :-) It was pretty easy for me to get started quickly, and although the program feels like it's unfinished in many respects and lacks a lot of the comfort I am used to in C4D, it is so much fun to play around with.

    • @millie2079
      @millie2079 4 года назад +1

      @@Wolf-4D You're right, Blender does feel unfinished. The excuse that it's free isn't a good enough excuse for the poor approach to the UI. I know I'm bitching about a phenomenally powerful free program that is the equal of all the rest but there are some infuriating things in Blender that make switching difficult. Just stupid, little things like the inability to be able to reorganise the objects in the layer panel, having to put everything into collections, those flat 2d icons for EVERYTHING, having to double-press g for the slide tool, having to be in wireframe mode to cut through an object, having to use a null object to deform objects, the confusing and lightweight object manager, the object manager being buried in a submenu, the convoluted creasing / edge system. Cinema is a breeze to use compared. I wont go above my current version, there's no need, Maxon haven't really added anything worthy of an update for years but that doesn't mean you don't have to stick with what you have. And Cinema handles the MoI .obj the best of the two. There's a lot of FOMO with Blender right now. It's very good, but not great.

    • @Wolf-4D
      @Wolf-4D  4 года назад +1

      @@millie2079 I totally agree!! I feel exactly the same way about Blender. I'm still on R18 and hope I can still use it for some years. Maybe Blender will have become more user-friendly by then... With Maxon's prices, the new subsription policy and the lackluster development of C4D in general it is unlikely that I can or want to upgrade to a newer version.

      Thanks! Sorry for not mentioning all the shortcuts I used. You can turn grid snap on using the toolbars at the bottom of the UI, they're not difficult to find. Hope this helps.
