Thank you so much for sharing and teaching this. I’m suffering from hair loss and waiting for dermatologist appointment. It cleared my head that I might suffer from androgenetic alopecia. At least i gained more knowledge of my problem. Thank you.

@@profLidiaRudnicka Hello doc, Im 17 and have highly sparse hair that doctors near me are quite confused and are unable to make a diagnosis whether it's telogen effluvium or aga. I don't have a receding hairline, and the hairloss is diffused and the scalp is visible in all parts of my head from back to front to temples to near ears, etc and is even. I took a trichoscan and it said that I have 25% anagen ratio and 75% telogen ratio and also that I have 4.47% vellus hair. The density of hair was 145 per cm Sq. My father has aga which he experienced in his 30s but none in my mother's side does and even my elder brother who's 20 has a really dense and thick hair. I've had b12 and vitamin D deficiencies in the past but they were taken care of but nothing changed. I also might have insulin resistance since I am quite obese and have acanthosis nigricans and skin tags and a family history of diabetes. Pls help me with this.
Thanks so much Prof! What about cases where a post menopausal woman presents with a subtly visibly wider central parting in the frontal region vs occipital, but upon trichoscopy has no miniaturisation in the frontal region? Upon trichoscopy, the only difference between the frontal and occipital region is the number of hairs per follicular unit, with the frontal region bearing units primarily of one hair, and the occipital of 2-4. Further, she may have the same miniaturisation in the fromtotemporal regions and report a history of excessive shedding, and a transition to lower density? I suspect this could be a very early presentation of AGA which resembles CTE, but I am unsure whether the lack of miniaturisation in the frontal central parting eliminates AGA.

I will put it on my list, but unfortunately there are almost no specific trichoscopy features of telogen effluvium, especially when it coexists with androgenetic alopecia
After 30 plus years of hair loss I'm not sure if mine was caused by androgenic alopecia .I went through many hair and scalp changer from 19 to 23 .Before I came down with a severe case of dermatitis my hair a year earlier was oily .about 3 hours after I shampooed it .the oil residue would be noticeably present . .at the time period I seen a dermatologist I was basically prescribed like a hydrocortisone ointment and told to use a smelly tar shampoo , which actually sped up my hair loss by shedding these large flake with three to five hairs embedded in them .years later present day I solved the dermatitis by diet and had hair transplants in the late 90's .those after 20 year of not using the known meds started looking thinned out and got on finasteride and dutasteride .also oral minoxidil which worked wonders for my hair .stem cell injections I believe helped reverse some fibrosis in bald ares
Hello doctor, I have a question that is worrying me. Having hair shaft thickness or dots in a very low percentaje of the scalp is normal or is an androgenetic alopecia symptom anyway?
@@profLidiaRudnicka Sorry let me rephrase, when viewing the scalp from a trichoscope, is it normal that the vast majority of follicles have hairs of the same thickness, but there are very few exceptions where there are hairs in the same follicle with one of them thin and the other thick like the rest of the scalp? Also, In the same way, is it normal to occasionally find a white dot (empty follicle), being also an exception and being very few in the scalp? These doubts arise because I do not know if these would be symptoms of androgenetic baldness or if it is normal in a healthy scalp that exists this variability and punctual exceptions in a minor percentage.

I suggest seeing a dermatologist. It may be the normal range of a beginning of a hair-related problem. Androgenetic alopecia in 10-year-olds is rare but possible
I read that when there is a case of lichen planopilaris with androgenic alopecia at the same time in the same place often the diagnosis of lichen planopilaris can be missed. Could you do a video showing how to differentiate whether a condition is just androgenic alopecia or androgenic alopecia with lichen planopilaris occurring concomitantly?
@@profLidiaRudnicka Could trichoscopy also detect burnt-out LPP with AGA simultaneously? If LPP can be detected easily by trichoscopy then why do so many doctors later biopsy the affected site additionally?

75% of telogen may indicate telogen effluvium. In this case you need to look together with your doctor for the cause. Also metabolic syndrome (diabetes, obesity etc) may be a cause of hair loss. Third option- if you had sparse hair from your early childhood, it may be an inherited disease.
