    Thanks Alex! Totally agree with all of your points and it’s advice I also give my students. I started sitting classically even when playing electric a few years ago when I developed two slipped discs (mainly due to poor posture). That, along with my nice light Strandberg, has really made the difference in comfort! Thanks again as always for your help and inspiration- have a great weekend man 🤘💥🎸👍😘

    Great lesson Alex - John Petrucci & Frank Dunnery (who's a great player & does some incredible legato playing) also strap the guitar really high up to get the left hand positioning. If you watch the low slung guys like Slash he'll stick his foot on the monitor to point the neck to the roof & thus gets his left hand position sorted - the same thing you mentioned.

      Carlos Santana covered that about 35 years ago; no kidding; to play like B.B. King, you must be in the correct emotional state. To do that, just watch videos and immitate the expression for the lick you wish to learn; the only way to get it right! 😁

    Thank you, Alex! When playing tone intervals, e.g. G-A-B, do you usually use i-m-p fingers no matter where are you on the fretboard? I tend to play i-m-p on the lower frets, but on the higher frets/lower strings sometimes feel pain in the wrist just below the thumb, so have to switch to i-r-p there. The classic posture actually helps but does not resolve this issue completely. Have you experienced anything similar?

    Do you feel that the neck thickness/ shape adds to the comfort/ ease of your fretting hand? I own 4 Ibanez guitars and a single Musicman AX40, two of them have wizard II necks RG 7str, S-Series, a wizard III on my Premium and I guess just standard necks on both my 2004 BTB JS1000 and AX40, I find that there's a tiny bit of effort required when I switch from my wizard necks, maybe because the JS and the AX40 only have 22 frets instead of 24 and the neck length/ radius is taken into consideration? I don't know, still bloody awesome guitars anyway.
    Thanks for sharing your left hand approach.

  • @philipgreenwood3251
    @philipgreenwood3251 2 года назад

    I have possibly the weirdest guitar position ever: guitar neck is 45° but not between legs like classical...I rest guitar on my right hip.
    Totally relaxed posture and I can do thumb in middle of the neck wide fret stretches with a straight wrist.
    It's definitely odd but I'm much faster than when guitar neck is parallel to floor (this also bends wrist and causes pain if playing wide stretches on lowest frets).
    I'm trying thumb pointing upwards but I've got mutant large hands so this is impossible around 12th fret (but I can do those Allan Holdsworth 4 note per string legato bits for speed bursts).
