i love coach meyer. and he's legendary. ryan day getting gattison and washington out of michigan and be top 5 defense in the country, that took balls and deep thinking. i'm not comparing urban to ryan, just a different philosophy perhaps.
"well oiled"???????????? the defense was horrific last year and coach day , except for larry johnson, had to gut the defensive coaching staff. also, a "well oiled" team does NOT get blown by 29 at purdue. this team is all a product of coach days ability - it has nothing to do with urban.
Lavisse Smith I agree with you. The organization, culture, & talent on the field was built & running at a high level by Coach Meyer. Coach Day job is to stand on his shoulders & take Ohio State to an even higher level. Not an easy assignment but he is doing great so far!
@@michaelwilson9849 - wow. where to start? first - urban was making terrible asst coach hires and ryan day changed that. second - the defense was near the bottom of the entire country under urban last year - day has them at #2 in the country and looking to make the playoffs - something urban hasn't done in the last 4 years he was there. third - coach day is now 9-0 and has gotten us away from the usual 30 point blowout loss we've had to endure the last several years. btw - urban responsible for 3 of the worst losses in buckeye history. you want more mike??????? how about we don't have to watch the urban run the qb 25+ times a game while the runningbacks get half the carries. how about getting away from that USELESS h-back and going with a slot receiver? really, man - do you PAY ATTENTION to what's been going on?
@@FSUfan1991 - really? check how tressel did - no issues there at all. no offense to you, but i'd say your're not even a college football fan to say jim tressel didn't have great success in the 10 years before urban arrived. i'm surprised anyone would even say something that misinformed.
I love these videos with Urban Meyer and the analysis is in-depth. I think Urban was loyal to a fault and the reason the defense was so bad last season. If you look at the defense this year it's night and day. The first thing Ryan Day did was change the defensive staff immediately and it's paying dividends. This is a complete football team and if they don't go undefeated that could be considered a failure. But this team has a chance to do it and this team looks hungrier than years past. Go Buckeyes!!
Can you imagine Harbaugh's answers to the same questions? Q: "Jim, how do you assemble a coaching staff?" A: "Silk. Chicken. Milk." Q: "What do you look for in an assistant coach?" A: "When things go good, they go good. When they don't, they don't, and we take responsibility for it." Q: "Is it true you hired Gattis after a 20-minute phone call?" A: "It's all burnt wood in here [pointing to his chest]. Who's got it better than us?" Q: "Have you talked to Don Brown about possibly running zone against tougher opponents?" A: "The offense is hitting its stride all in areas." 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Yeah, bringing those cats from MeatChicken bothered me to no end at first... I went all conspiracy theorist about them sabotaging my Buckeyes & whatnot. Thankfully, it's been a great addition & change!! I guess come the end of November when we have to play them we'll really get to see where their loyalties lie but until then.... They're killing it!!
Having a great staff these days is much more important than ever. Guys always leave after a few years, so the head coach is constantly replacing them. Back in the day, they stayed longer. Times change.
Tell this to Mark Dantonio, who is content to just shuffle his coordinators around and not bring in fresh faces. Especially O-line, which has been pitiful as of late. At least Lewerke is still passing the ball well!
3 National Titles, multiple Conference Championships, +85% winning percentage & nearly triple digits in the # of players sent on to Sundays..... I get what you're saying but it's hard to agree bud.
@@bagofboom252 haha yeah I know. Urban is one of the greatest ever. It's more of a stupid argument I have with my friends as a super buckeye fan. Hard to argue with the stats but one thing in look at is hes 7-0 as the underdog at OSU, and in his 8 or so losses hes been favored almost everytime. What I'm getting at is disappointing losses have tainted what could have been at OSU. I know, it's very childish a bratty to think like that but I cant help it
@@wyattbiscan7445 Oh I get it bro, it's a glaring thing about his "legacy" but also it's something you could apply to most other coaches. And if some of these teams could have "lived up" to expectations... Man, could you imagine?! With who they had in uniform & the staffs he's put together.... It's almost bad to lose at all! Lol! It's like an argument I'm having with some tool on another vid about JT Barrett.... Any school in the country would've killed for his 4 year record & stats & history but ppl don't give him any credit for being great... It's kinda the same with Urban's staff & teams.
@@bagofboom252 I agree he didn't actually underperform on the grand scheme of things and I was making a joke. But the fact that that 2015 team performed the way it did is undeniably pathetic. The stories that have come out about how the coaching staff was run and who urban kept employed is crazy. Urban meyer was factually known to play favorites on the coaching staff a la Bill Davis being linebackers coach for the last 4 years and what do you know the guy was in Urban Meyers wedding party. As soon as Day takes over, Bill Davis is gone and the same linebackers look like a completely different unit. Urban played favorites on the coaching staff and has talked about how he hates firing people, Days new staff has talked about how cohesive of a unit they are.
@@wyattbiscan7445 The first loss OSU has under Day and everyone will be all over him !! I too agree to an extent that Urban was to forgiving with his assistants but his record of 7 seasons of 11 or more wins is pretty good and keeps this old guy happy !! and the fact they handled the School up North like they have is pretty impressive.
Urban Meyer was bad in assembling very bad OCs and DCs in 2015 on. He could have won two more national championships at Ohio State if it was not for his very bad choices of OCs and DCs, and his stubborn stupid devotion to JT Barrett as a QB who could not pass and was a total failure in big crucial games almost yearly. So, he should not talk about a subject he was bad in doing
You took the words right out of my mouth. 2017 and 2018 were prime examples of wildly talented teams that weren’t coached well, as Urban said “recruiting is most important” but when push came to shove Xs and Os were the thing that let them down those two seasons, the defense in particular would get embarrassing to watch at times considering the level of talent they had even in 2016. Best example of bad coaching was watching how woefully unprepared they were for Clemson in the 2016 CFP, Dabo’s staff ran circles around Urban’s that game. Barrett was a tough player but knowing they had Burrow and Haskins sitting on the bench watching an undrafted quarterback throw interceptions on easy reads had to have been excruciating. Urban is without a doubt one of the greatest coaches ever but he squandered a chance to get his name up next to Saban. If he tries again at Notre Dame or USC he needs to get better with decision making in regards to player personnel and choosing a staff or else you might see his legacy tarnished a bit when they don’t succeed.
These segments are just great. Meyer is a natural for this kind of TV gig.

Coach Day is a lucky man to be given the keys to a well oiled machine like The Ohio State Buckeyes by Coach Meyer. Buckeye fans are lucky also.
