You helped me out more than you know. You indicated that the 6L90E dipstick will work on 8L90E transmission this is awesome.. Thank you so much for video
You helped me out more than you know as well. Now I know for sure that I'll be using the 8l90 and the 6.2 that come from a 2017 Camaro SS donor for my 1996 Impala SS LS swap. Thank you so much for video
zero gravity performance has a controller for the 8L90 to use behind any motor as long as it bolts up and im wondering what kind of parts I would need to get rid of this boat anchor 4l60 for some 8 speed greatness, is the swap more or less like converting a 4l60 too a 6L80?
Do you know if the transfer case would bolt up to any of the two? Would the both take the exact same tcase? I'm swapping a 6l80 out for 8l90 but the tcase is the puzzle
I'm guessing you don't realize the 8L90 is a much inferior unit than the 6L90, not nearly as durable, those torque ratings by GM are bogus ! the 6L90 will handle more abuse than the 8L will , I'm a 30+ yr professional transmission tech, and rebuild these things daily, the 8L90 torque converters fail more often than the 6L90's, and you can't change the lockup programming on the 8spds without spending a lot of $ to unlock the ecm, 6L90's can be reprogrammed on the bench, 8L90 valvebodys wear excessively compared to 6L90 valvebodys also , you would be better off using the 6L90 in your build
Steve, thanks for the info, I was about to swap because I wanted the extra gas milage increase, and ability to tow, hual, how do I reach you for a trans rebuild?, I am in vegas
Anyone know when converting an 8l90 4wd to 2wd, are there 2 plugs or places that need drilled out at the end of the trans to let fluid lube the output shaft bushing? I know a 2wd 6l80 has 2 holes that allow fluid to lube the output shaft bushing. Anyone fit a 10l80 in a squarebody? Thanks!
2008 Hummer H2 has the 6L80 and I’m wanting to put in an 8 speed. Is the 8L90 a direct swap or will there need to be modifications done? 6.2ltr stock engine.
Pulled this video up hoping you were swapping a 8l90 to a 6l80! 8l90 have problems with or without being serviced regularly from what I've discovered. Aftermarket support for the 6l80's appears to be there somewhat, while the 8l90's appears to be non-existent for any form of performance/strengthening upgrades. Got almost 131K on mine now and it's slipping. Also, has some hard shifts. I've discovered just recently, it does better with the tow/haul mode engaged. I've had the fluid flushed 3 times over the 131K.
@@steveeverett5261I agree. I replaced my 8l90e at 181,386 miles with a GM reman. The GM reman cost me about $3,200 and it came with a new torque converter and fluid already installed. In all, with having the truck towed to the nearest GM dealer for a transmission relearn, new transmission mount, new rear main seal, and new transfer case front input seal, I’ve got about $3,500-$3,600 doing it myself. Did go back with the 8l90e for ease of install.
Got a 07 Escalade 6.2 6l80 bad trans want to swap to 8l90 bc I found drop out with tcase and all for a decent price what all would I need to do ecu wiring wise
do you know of any 8l90's that come with the rear mounted drum parking brake? i have a 97 c3500hd commercial chassis that i want to upgrade transmission in. the parking brake is mounted to the rear of the trans.
What year is that 6L80? I have one I'm swapping into my 1974 K1500 from a 2009 Silverado, and the rear extension housing looks quite a bit different than the one I have. Mine was originally a 4x4.

I have a 8L90E going into my 1955 Chevy Truck. Thank you for this video.
This is a really friendly and informative video, thanks for taking the time to make it and share all this information with us 👍🏼
For the price of the 6l80 and 8l80 I would of just put a t56 6 speed or if it was a heavy duty truck, the G56 6 speed manual transmission
Great information, I wished I'd had seen this two months ago. I could have saved myself 6K
Can I put a 8l90 in my 2009 Tahoe
Are the rear bolt patterns the same for transfer cases between these two? Would a transfer case that lines up with a 6l80 line up with a 8?
Thanks I learned a lot..want to run 8l90 in my E36 vert BMW THATS getting an L96 swap
Can a 32 spline NP241c transfercase bolt to the 8l90?
Dude thanks so much for the dipstick vindication I was strongly suspecting that!
what is the easiest way to tell them apart by looking?
Important to point out the 8L90E can only be run with Gen V LT1 and LT4 engines, according to the chevy website.
I ordered an 8l90 instead of the 6l80 will it work inplace of thr 6l80?

How about a 6l80/90 vs 10l90?
I have a 2010 H3t in going to V8 swap to LS3. The truck has the 4l60e have you done the 6l80 or 8l90 swap on one ?
I want to use the GM connect and cruise LT1 and 8L90 in a 1963 C-10. What would you recommend for a shifter?

Has anyone swapped a 8l90 in place of a 6l80
Wondering if I could get an 8 speed in my SSR 😮
Be nice someone show a video of how to use a np208 on a 8l90
Measurements would have been nice.
Hi, do you know where can I buy a New 8l90 for my silverado Ltz 2018? Thanks

M5U, look for MQE
8L90's are much more troublesome than 6L90's,

I wonder if the 6L90 with fit in my 4th gen Z/28
Can I swap my 4l80e in too 6l80. I have 2500 chevy express 2009.
Has anyone put a 8l90 into a 96 Impala SS?
Thank you.
Man I don't know what to do with my 48' pickup .... 6l80 or 8l80?? I know we talked about using the 6 speed.

an 8L90 is NOT an upgrade by any means, you likely have a 4L80e which is a much better transmission, likely one of the best GM has ever put out

Great question, that rear end housing is an advance adapters piece to bolt a Jeep tcase onto. The trans is a 13
I have a 2015 Tahoe with the 6l80 trans but I want to swap it for a 10 speed Can be done ?
Did you find any answers to this. Im about to buy an 2015 ppv and wanted to swap as i hear the 6l80 suck
@@manni1225 yes you can swap it get a 2wd trans from a truck or SUV and get the control pack and tcm from Sean Hamilton
8l vs 10l any differences in size?
Can you bolt either on to a sb350? And how would you program it
why when the final drive 6=the same as the 700-R4. at that point do a LS swap for engine and transmission managment
You need the holley controller and yes you can do that swap!
8L90 is definitely smaller bodied immediately after the bellhousing
google "tape measure" :) hahahaha
