    Man, imagine this. As the DM if you had conducted a good experience, and impressed your patrons, your reputation would grow and you'd be able to host more sessions for new players and therefore make more money potentially. Don't ruin the experience for all to indulge the self.

    • @lootgoblinmarketplace
      @lootgoblinmarketplace  8 месяцев назад +10

      Yeah, he is thinking too short term, if he got a lot of people who liked his experience, he could get more groups and even charge a bit more per person. Instead this guy goes for the quick payout and losses it all!

    Microtransactions shouldn't be in a DND campaign. I don't mind paid DMs myself but if everything gets locked behind a paywall its stupid.

  • @andrewparsons2391

    Greed just feels so unnecessary most of the time anyway.
    For the past 2 years, the local game store has had a DnD game once a week for $5 for three hours, first come first serve. If the main group fills up (8 people), there is a back-up game for everyone else. The main game is almost always full, and after a awhile some people show up just for the side-game in and of itself (different DMs switching off different weekly campaigns). Most of us also buy a few dollars worth of snacks. To be fair, I'm not sure how much they profit from this directly, but they have developed a regular customer base.

      @@RicoTonetti No it goddamn isn't, it's not sustainable and creates long-term bad will for short-term profit. It reduces the pool of people enjoying the game to a comparatively small pool of whales, and at the end of the day they're going to move onto the next source of immediate pleasure for pay.

    My dnd server pays for sessions online because it’s or DMs only way of making money, she also allows alternative payment for those who can do art or make maps for Foundry
    Other than that, she does most of the work by herself making encounters and a majority of the maps for 8 campaigns a week

    I don't like paid Dungeon Masters. Sure, it's a lot of work, but if you're not doing it for the enjoyment of the game, then you need to find another place to "hustle". If a group wants to play, one of the players needs to step up and DM.
    If I get to the point to where I want to pay to have fun adventures in a fantastical world of swords and sorcery with friends, I'll fire up BG3 or FFXIV. Fuck paid DM's, fuck the greed ruining gaming, and fuck the very concept of capitalism itself because its entire purpose is to monetize the things that make life worth living and to change every interaction into a financial transaction.

  • @JacobL228

    You shouldn't equate paid games with the Adventurers' League. The "official " paid DMs there run fan-made modules that don't really go through a screening process and are usually boring, unbalanced, or just plain nonsensical. Furthermore, anyone can be a DM there, including people that have no business being behind a DM screen like the guy in this story. A lot of paid games are really good, and you can be sure that it won't fill up with people that don't take the game seriously or be left on the message board it was posted to despite being filled. You can also usually be sure that independent paid DMs can be held to a higher standard since they're not just running games as a favor to you; you're also their customer.
