Ok, to everyone who is surprised that Ash's voice is made by a woman, in animation, most of the time, kids voices are made by females, due to male's voices being USUALLY way too deep to make it sound good.
Indeed. The Norwegian dub has him voiced by a man and it's... *very* obvious that it's not a kid's voice. I mean *as* a kid I didn't really question it, and I've seen enough examples of kids with obviously adult voices that it doesn't sound *that* off to me... but both Sarah Natochenny, Veronica Taylor and Rica Matsumoto are just... *so* much more convincingly boyish despite obviously not being boys. (Though Veronica Taylor's earliest performances where she *was* trying to make her voice deeper to sound more like a boy... Yeah that was rough.)

And extremely well spoken at the end! You're not offending the original actor, you're enhancing their performance by bridging the gap closer so that more people can understand what's happening. Like she said, it also helps others pick up a new language. Tomáš Masaryk once said, "As many languages you know, as many times you are a human being"

Voice actors are often so underrated even though it's a hard job. I'm so impressed that so many people have so interesting voices and the talent to give their voices to those characters.

Romi Park, a popular seiyuu is a woman but she voiced lots of male MCs in anime. It's actually common in shounen anime that the male MCs are voiced by women.
She's got such a great voice. Everything is so crystal clear and easy to understand. This is one difficult job and she's doing an awesome job of it. Appreciate it a lot.
The voice acting job for her is probably a huge relief since it's pokémon and a consistent job for her since she has been doing it so long. How many voice actors have to take multiple jobs just to support themselves.

There isn't much of a difference in pitch if you compare a woman to a child, because they had no significant voice drop. They only sound different, because of the way they talk.

Was a little confused at seeing how young Sarah was so I looked her up and she's only 32 and she started voicing Ash in 2006 which means she was only around 18-19 when she got the role and apparently was around 11 when the show started. Crazy.

@@xtiros2672 The dub actually has a fairly modest budget. Mainly because TPCI is stingy. But voice direction has been competent over the years that mouth flaps fit most of the time.
You're ignoring the fact the same sentence will be longer and short in different languages, it's hard to dub properly with every language without messing with frames which will mess with the animation
I completed it 3 times (before I knew what anime was and when I was 8 or so I guess) Still watching Pokemons new episodes (pokemon 2019) And by all I mean pokemon original,pokemon advanced,pokemon diamond and pearl,pokemon black and white,pokemon XY&Z and pokemon S&M

I heard that (at least in NZ) there’s a course specifically for voice acting, so people probably get base skills there. I’m not sure if dubbing is involved, but I know it’s awkwardly difficult to abridge anything cause there’s a lot to consider.

I think voice acting for anime or dubbed media is harder than voicing for the vanilla project. In the English versions of Disney movies and stuff, the actors don't have to sync their voices up to the mouth movements. The mouth movements are animated to the actor's voices instead. However, in the dubbed versions, the actors have to speak in time with the animation instead, which is probably much harder.

I had a lot of respect for Dubbed voice actors but I do love the few who take this much notice, care and attention to detail for what they are working on, especially the mouth flaps and how the character would be sounding in a particular frame👏

Sarah is the most chill voice actress I've ever seen in my life, she seems like the kind of person you'd have a cup of joe with & I enjoy that kind of personality the most.
I was a voice actor for a couple of years. That job is HARD. I take my hat off to these guys. When you see how cut-throat the voice over world can be, and how quickly you need to adapt and think on your feet in the studio, you realize people like Sarah are magicians. I wasn't half of what these voice actors were. Utmost respect for those who can make a lucrative living out of it.
I am currently a voice actor (it's been 7 years now), and it's all pretty much relying on the artistic/visuals matching the voice (yeah i know it's obv). I've had to cut words out of scripts and inflex differently than what was imagined and it went better than most expect. Just like when you ask a painter to paint something, they know what type of paint to use to make it pop more than what you would've ever thought. But I'll still say it is quite impressive to see people with a lot of learned progress through doing it years after years show it on camera. It's always interesting to see others do what we do.

I’d imagine how difficult it would be to create dialogue for these characters in English since it was originally aired in Japanese. The voice actors would have to read lines that match the movements of the characters lips and the dialogue would have to remain relevant to the subject.

i think her voice is more closely energatic like Rika(Satoshi) did. i like her because that reason. the way i heard Ash voice in DP he feels like Satoshi in english but little bit higher pitch. ah also i love when Sarah also helping the adaptor to perfected the script that can be matched to english.
This voice actor is incredible and her director is extremely impressive, as well. To have the vision for the scene and be able to communicate it to the artist, and then for the artist to bring it to life is truly outstanding.

He should be voiced by a guy and not a woman. Explain to me why Gary oak, Paul and trip were voiced by guys but not ash. Also have you not listened to the Indian dubs especially the Tamil dub. Kathir gani Khan (s1-s10, s17) and sai abhijith (s11-present) sound way better.

I can’t fathom how hard I’m must have been to dub in the 80s and 90s
I dont want to say this is..............bad lest I disrespect her but man isnt it ultra cringe to listen Eng dub? I've been watching anime for long time and always watched them when they come out with sub then I listen to this dubbed ones I feel so fuckin cringe. No matter what they cant copy that natural Japanese tone those people have. It gotta take a lot of time for her to go through this cringy situation. RESPECT.

What do you mean by “already”? Also the production budget for English dub must be a LOT higher than dutch because it caters to wider audience. I bet Pokemon is one anime which spends more on english VA’s than Japanese

The dub actually has a fairly modest budget. Mainly because TPCI is stingy. But voice direction has been competent over the years that mouth flaps fit most of the time.

You're ignoring the fact the same sentence will be longer and short in different languages, it's hard to dub properly with every language without messing with frames which will mess with the animation

I heard that (at least in NZ) there’s a course specifically for voice acting, so people probably get base skills there. I’m not sure if dubbing is involved, but I know it’s awkwardly difficult to abridge anything cause there’s a lot to consider.

I think voice acting for anime or dubbed media is harder than voicing for the vanilla project.
In the English versions of Disney movies and stuff, the actors don't have to sync their voices up to the mouth movements. The mouth movements are animated to the actor's voices instead.
However, in the dubbed versions, the actors have to speak in time with the animation instead, which is probably much harder.

I had a lot of respect for Dubbed voice actors but I do love the few who take this much notice, care and attention to detail for what they are working on, especially the mouth flaps and how the character would be sounding in a particular frame👏

I was a voice actor for a couple of years. That job is HARD. I take my hat off to these guys. When you see how cut-throat the voice over world can be, and how quickly you need to adapt and think on your feet in the studio, you realize people like Sarah are magicians. I wasn't half of what these voice actors were. Utmost respect for those who can make a lucrative living out of it.

I am currently a voice actor (it's been 7 years now), and it's all pretty much relying on the artistic/visuals matching the voice (yeah i know it's obv). I've had to cut words out of scripts and inflex differently than what was imagined and it went better than most expect. Just like when you ask a painter to paint something, they know what type of paint to use to make it pop more than what you would've ever thought.
But I'll still say it is quite impressive to see people with a lot of learned progress through doing it years after years show it on camera. It's always interesting to see others do what we do.

I’d imagine how difficult it would be to create dialogue for these characters in English since it was originally aired in Japanese. The voice actors would have to read lines that match the movements of the characters lips and the dialogue would have to remain relevant to the subject.

i think her voice is more closely energatic like Rika(Satoshi) did. i like her because that reason. the way i heard Ash voice in DP he feels like Satoshi in english but little bit higher pitch. ah also i love when Sarah also helping the adaptor to perfected the script that can be matched to english.

This voice actor is incredible and her director is extremely impressive, as well. To have the vision for the scene and be able to communicate it to the artist, and then for the artist to bring it to life is truly outstanding.
And the director is hot as balls.
Not extremely extremely impressive because can tell it is her voice and extremely impressive voice actors you can't tell it is their voice. Higher voiced people typically have this problem.
It should be a guy instead. Look at the Indian language dubs. A guy is doing it and sounds way better.

He should be voiced by a guy and not a woman. Explain to me why Gary oak, Paul and trip were voiced by guys but not ash. Also have you not listened to the Indian dubs especially the Tamil dub. Kathir gani Khan (s1-s10, s17) and sai abhijith (s11-present) sound way better.
