I went here a couple times when i was younger. We also went just a little bit before they closed, a huge part of the building had water damage, and there was an arcade in the back that was completely ruined. If i remember right, the water park was actually pretty decent apart from the nasty water. I remember the rooms were pretty bad. But it was still loads of fun to 9 year old me 😢
Went here in 2014. It was our first indoor water park experience that we purchased off Groupon. We had such a good time. Came with pizza and drinks, tokens and a breakfast buffet for great price
Thats wild i took my son there once we stayed there as well. The room was such a turn off it wasnt clean at all. I never knew their water was not properly cleaned thats wild. We went once and never went back
@urbanexplorer260 Also, a TV show called Hotel Impossible went there to try and help them, but they wound up going down the street to Kalahari instead after saying the rooms' hairdryer was the only thing that worked when they needed something.
I’d say me and my group were the first to expore in 2018 had power on in some areas still was insane went down hill after u didnt even see how it used to look lol
@@urbanexplorer260 it was pretty good as i remember! i honestly think it was a super underrated water park! it was considered the “budget” water park of sandusky and i definitely understand that cuz compared to kalahari, this place is tiny.

@urbanexplorer260 such a shame. I only learned about this place by accident. We've staying at a motel adjacent to it and I wanted to see what that place was. Such a shame. What kind of laundering were they involved with?
Went here in 2014. While I enjoyed it something just felt "off" about the place. In retrospect I'm surprised it took as long as it took for the place to get shut down. And when I say it felt off I'm not just talking about the internet not working. Maybe it's that I'm naturally suspicious of cheap tacky theaming you can see right through but the place was run so bad even back then. Being that I've seen the entire video from the interview and videos of what opening day looked like on here, it now makes sense being that it was a shell of itself even back then. I wouldn't rule out a Breaking Bad type situation having happened here (after all, it opened around the same time Gus explaining the mechanics of his lab with the Chlorine hiding everything in the show was first aired). On a more positive note, I do hope Great Wolf looks at relocating that bowl slide, it would give their Sandusky waterpark the star attraction it desperately needs.
It was really eerie to be inside, it felt like a waste town, it seems all the abandoned resorts and indoor water parks are all closing due to deceit and bad practice. I mean heck, there was Caribbean Cove in Indy, Fort Rapids in Columbus, and now this! Cowabunga 🌊
@@urbanexplorer260 Don't forget Coco Key. Of these tacky theamed places, Splash Lagoon in Erie is the last one I know of. And even so that place focuses more on the slides and less on the tacky theme (although the same could've been said of Fort Rapids looking at how many slides come out of that building so who knows-surprised Kalahari hasn't tried to buy Fort Rapids. Great Wolf wouldn't since they have the Kings Island Great Wolf but Kalahari might) but it's under contract with multiple hotel chains so the departure of Holiday Inn from Carribbean Cove is unlikely to repeat itself there, for example.
I would love to have some of the furniture and hawaiian themed pieces. Why didn't they sell or auction off what's left? Money just sitting around rotting.
I went to Kalahari and I saw this place, made me sad how a staple of childhood and nostalgia is just abandoned and sitting there.
Waterparks bring back so many fun times for a lot of people 🌴 it is sad to see such a once thriving spot just rotting

people definitely had fun there
Plenty of fun times that unfortunately came to an end 😞

Ah you got to Maui Sands! I scoped it out on my way back from Cleveland last month, but didn’t try to get in…THIS time…

I’m sorry to hear that! The previous owner of the building was running a shady and dishonest resort 🌴

The man who tried to purchase the resort with falsified business documents was charged with both fraud and money laundering.
