I will say they just took down the church yesterday, unfortunately now it is just history, very happy you got video since now it is gone. I wondered my whole life what it looked like inside but knew the dangers going inside could hold. Also suspected that it could be haunted which now that stories are coming out it would make a ton of sense. Thank you for videoing inside!

I live in the small town that this bowling alley is in. I don't think that the Pro's that are pictured on the wall ever bowled there. I think the pictures are from a personal collection. No reason to come to this small house. I have lived in the area since 1978.

Those are the AMF 8270 pinsetters. In my opinion, Brunswick are much easier to work on because they are all mechanical. AMF are mostly electrical. As far as the photos of all those pro bowlers I used to bowl with some of those guys -- Mark Roth, Marshall Holman and others.
@@robinbuckeye6841 thank you for the information, Robin! And in your opinion, who is the best bowler you’ve ever seen in person?
@@urbanexplorer260 I've talked with Earl Anthony, Mark Roth and many others, including the women pros, but my favorite bowler is Parker Bohn because we are both left-handed. He taught me a lot about making spares.
Wow! At 1:31, that lady is in the photo with Pete and Dick Weber!! I used to be a Brunswick mechanic and worked on A2 pinsetters for many years!! But now, in 2024, bowling is nearly extinct. I think all bowling centers will be closed within the next few years. Excellent video!!! Liked and subscribed, my friend!!
@@robinbuckeye6841 ☺️☺️
Most of the houses are switching over to string pin bowling.
Bowling may become extinct because technology ruined the game, ranging from teched-up bowling ball surfaces to the ever-failing teched-up automatic scoring systems. Bowling got ruined because everyone including amateurs started "shooting 58s and 59s on the golf course", if you can follow the context here (i.e., everyone shooting 300s, 800s and 900s). When Bowling can get back to when a score in the 190s is good...
Oh, i was a Brunswick and AMF mechanic myself. I was always scared of the behemoth Brunswick pinsetters, you make one little mistake you might die; I felt very safe with the AMF 82-70 pinsetters because the pinsetters have very many safety interlocks that it's almost impossible to get injured or die in those pinsetters. I will never again go onto a pin deck with that weight-ladened Brunswick table (deck) dangling above me because if the gearbox decided to give out while underneath one of those things, you're dead meat! I once read an item in a bowling publication in which an AMF mechanic managed to meet his death in an AMF pinsetter, and thought to myself that he had to do something really off the mark to end up meeting his demise in an AMF 82-70 pinsetter!
@@danfreiberger5137 I cannot believe there is a high chance of fatality actually working on the machines! Hats off to you sir 🎩

I grew up in a 6 lane bowling establishment that was built in 1941. Pin boys employed at that time. I met a few of those fellas as a teenager lol that's was in the 1970's
The AMF & BRUNSWICK poinsettias were designed by the same fella. AMF sold the rights to Brunswick many many years ago. First Brunswick was known as Brunswick A's. Very slow but very reliable. AMF had several versions. 4400's , 82/30's then later 82/70's. 82/30'were late 1950's

I bowl at a place in Rochester, Domm's, that's run by Millie Martorella's step grandsons. It's a great place and she stopped in for a visit when I was bowling there last season. What a bowler she was! When I was a teenager I saw her win her first Queens title at Gates Bowl in Rochester.

This was located in Michigan however the diner cars were moved across the U.S. recently 😞
I seen the storm crux pearl man that ball was good and a undrill amf classic pro roll man and purple hammer i wish i can go there get those old balls and give a better life
The good old Brunswick v. AMF debate. AMF was the first to introduce to automatic pinsetter, I believe that Brunswick came out with theirs 10 years later. Of course over time, both have done MAJOR updates to their designs. Brunswick pinsetters are more mechanical where as AMF are more circuit/electrical. Both are quality machines, just comes down to individual preference. I have worked on both AMF and Brunswick pinsetters. Me personally, I like AMF pinsetters.
There does seem to be an intense discussion between the two! I love to see my viewers going back and forth over a topic they have so much passion for ☺️🎳

I completely agree Dylan 😊
I grew up going to this theater, I was so sad when it shut down, then was excited when it opened as spotlight!
What movies do you remember watching there? 🍿
@@urbanexplorer260my most vivid one was Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace I was 6 or 7. I rememeber swimming with everyone, then going up there in my swim trunks and a towel. Then falling asleep on the ride home. I know that was when it was star theater, but when it went to spotlight, I'd walk all the way from Sibley and Racho, where I lived, on Saturday early mornings for the free popcorn, and I'd be the only one in the theater! I was a major movie fan during my late high school days, I still am, but not like I was 😂
$1 for a soft drink
Indeed🥤
for $3 a game, this hasn't been abandoned all that long
I know exactly where this is. Sad that the last owner closed it without even trying to sell. It was eight lanes too.
I worked on AMF's for years, they were good machines. The Sure Pik returns were very dependable, rare to have an actual breakdown. The blue colored scheme was the rarer of the colors, I never saw one in person. Really disappointed you didn't go into the "pits" and show them from behind.
Cool old place it would be cool to visit.
I went to Kalahari and I saw this place, made me sad how a staple of childhood and nostalgia is just abandoned and sitting there.
Waterparks bring back so many fun times for a lot of people 🌴 it is sad to see such a once thriving spot just rotting
Same
tens of thousands of dollars left there
Absolutely!
what is the address I would like to explore this
This is the Royal Funeral Home in Battle Creek, Michigan. And unfortunately the owner boarded up all entrances and locked all the doors 😞
Sad to see those gorgeous retro Brunswick orange ball returns and masking units in such a state. That's what a bowling alley should look like. That retro stuff is gorgeous when it's in pristine condition.
I agree, the old items hold such history for so many 🤩🤓
Its a shame the place will probably be trashed and vandalized when more people find out about it
You’re probably correct, the more word gets out unfortunately bandits and drug addicts will come through and destroy the place 🤯
We had a 12 lane Brunswick bowling alley called Paramount Lanes that I bowled in since I was about 13 and had the above ground ball returns. I bowled in a league there for about two years and bowled quite a few 200 games before they closed it down and took out all of the alleys 🎳 and repurposed it. Built sometime in the early 1960's.
Some shitdiots lit that thing on fire recently and they came and re boarded the whole thing up. That said there is still a way in without breaking anything if you can make it to the roof. there is an access hatch or you could drop into the center
That frankly does not surprise me! Other people who don’t have an appreciation for history or the abandoned tend to treat things as such 😞 Hopefully they can make better decisions, down the road 🛣️
Ladies watch this too
That statement would be correct 👍🏼
this brings so many memories of my childhood brought back. My Mom and Dad worked regular jobs thru the week, but we traveled on the weekend for them to bowl in tournaments. They were semi pros. The extra money paid for our travel and vacations. When my mom died and me and my brother cleaned out her house to sale it, we tossed 237 trophies they had won. I blew a chance to follow their footsteps. i bowled in 3 leagues with an average between 190-& 195. But this was the late 70's and i was lead astray by the times. Sex' Drugs' and Rock and Roll were my top three. Bowling was fourth on the list. While i had a hell of a time. I now at the age of 68 wished bowling would have been no. 1.
Well Sammie it sounds like you’ve had quite a time ☺️ It’s so unique to hear about your past experiences and how your love for bowling never went away!
I too am 68 and I am disgusted about how Bowling has turned from being a sport into something that is now merely an "exhibition", you know, an exhibition of who can spend the most money on a bowling ball and then who can carry the most, since all the amateurs are now shooting 300s, 800s and 900s! 150-average bowlers who think they're 225-average bowlers. Can you imagine everyone, including amateurs, shooting 58s and 59s on the golf course? That's exactly what happened to Bowling! To date there are only TWO legitimate 900 series: Glenn Allison and Joe Scarborough. All others were made possible by the teched-up bowling ball surfaces, house lane conditions, and kickbacks that are much too lively (allowing the head pin to do the job that the 6-pin is supposed in taking out the 10-pin). Here's what I suggest to restore integrity to Bowling... 1. Rubber and plastic ball surfaces only! 2. Place 4-lb pins in the pinsetters. 3. Deaden the kickbacks so that the head pin doesn't keep flying across the pin deck (when the pin contacts the kickback, it merely should drop into the channel). 4. Remove ALL automatic scorers, bring back the telescores, and learn to keep score as part of the game. (But if you are going to keep the automatic scorers, take your pinsetter mechanics off the scorers [and the lanes too] so that we can better maintain the pinsetters instead of blowing our time on the lanes and the ever-failing scorers, and then have management ask me why the pinsetters are failing!) 5. Eliminate the "house shot" nonsense ... edgeboard to edgeboard with the lane oil with only a slightest crowning toward the 20-board. With the suggestions I have made to restore integrity to this game, now let's see who can really bowl! No one will be shooting 900s any more! Just as not everyone is shooting 58s and 59s on the golf course!
If the 6-pin failed to take out the 10-pin, the 10-pin was supposed to stand, not get knocked down by a pin flying all over the pin deck!
