I used to spend so much time at this theater growing up! Every time I go into/by this plaza I wonder what it looks like inside here. Thank you so much for exploring! Side note: I can't believe it's only been closed 11 years, it feels so much longer than that.

This originally opened as a Star Theatre, which was a major Detroit based theatre circuit.

That’s so unique ☺️ I wonder if there are more abandoned movie theaters like this around Detroit?

What used to be a great thing, going to see a movie and a night out has almost become a thing of the past. The theaters charge exorbitant prices (even for senior discounts) and many ppl just stream the movie of their choice at home. I always enjoyed going to the theater. We have a few drive in theaters around here (the greater Pittsburgh area) and they seem to be hanging on. Some in town theaters seem to do okay. It's eerie in there. Was this behind a mall? Nice Post!!

Hey Dennis! Thanks for the feedback 😌 I agree, most in person theaters are on the decline due to streaming services on the rise. This was actually by a strip mall, all alone 😨

      @@urbanexplorer260my most vivid one was
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
I was 6 or 7. I rememeber swimming with everyone, then going up there in my swim trunks and a towel. Then falling asleep on the ride home. I know that was when it was star theater, but when it went to spotlight, I'd walk all the way from Sibley and Racho, where I lived, on Saturday early mornings for the free popcorn, and I'd be the only one in the theater! I was a major movie fan during my late high school days, I still am, but not like I was 😂

My mom took me to see Speed here in 1994. My first R Rated underage movie. It was a Star Taylor Theater since opening until AMC bought star in the 2000s. This theater was way ahead of its time as all Star theaters in the 89s and 90s looked like this. My wife and I had one of our first dates here to see Inception in 2010 at the Spotlight. The ticket counter was the small desk immediately to the left when you walk in the main entrance. When it was a Star theater they also used the back entrance off the railroad tracks too

pretty sure the demise of this theater was because of the new one built in a neighboring city mere minutes away. I believe they ran at the same time for a couple years, but Taylor couldn't compete anymore. and the surrounding strip mall of this place is mostly deadsville.

Old abandoned theaters are so cool I snuck into one down where I live at and it's been closed for probably 20 some years I took my portable Pico projector in there last year it was so cool because I showed that League of super pets movie up on the screen and it filled the entire screen up with that little projector and what was really cool with showing a movie in a theater that was still playing in the theaters at the time so I paid good homage to that old that was a lot of fun I love Urban exploring been trying to find some new places to go great videos to by the way I love this

@urbanexplorer260 it's been sitting abandoned for so long, I don't think it will be salvageable without spending mote money than building a new complex. It really is amazing that it just sits there. I mean it's amoung some prime teal estate for a business and has railroad tracks right next to the lot, freeway access in less than 1 mile. Raises allot of questions as to what is really going on here.
