- Today we try several boxed national brand items. Gumbo, Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix, and Eckrich Sausage. When you don't have time to make scratch gumbo how does Zatarains do for boxed gumbo on the fly?
You are right Chef. This stuff is not bad for coming from a box. Works great for during the week when we are so busy.

When I didn't know how to make roux, I used Zatarain's Gumbo Base and we liked it. Also, when my son was away at college, he used to like making gumbo in his dorm using the Gumbo Base.

I've made this before out of a Box with all 3 proteins and got lots of compliments. Fixing the makes a more Friday and hopefully get just as many compliments.

Cool Chef! I've been hooked on Green curry lately, been buying Blue Elephant (green curry) but I've been doing it with craw fish meat, shrimp, chicken and rice all mixed in it. One day even put in sausage with all of it. May have to do this with the Zatarains this weekend. Take care my friend

I love jiffy cornbread mix with a 1/3 can of cream style corn (I use a little less milk) but I've never tried a boxed gumbo. Actually, it looks very tasty.
It is pretty good for boxed stuff, I do recommend it

What is the best gumbo in the box brand.
zaterains also makes a gumbo base....I prefer it better because the mix usually sticks to much!

The question is, what's the best mix between Zatarain's, Kary's, Louisiana Brand, or one of the others (I think Tony's has one now)? Blue Plate canned isn't bad but I hate buying something that's mostly water. Zatarain's IS the best shrimp boil so I think I can trust their mix.
Agreed I think zatarains has the best boil mix, Kary's gumbo mix is the most authentic tasting and I personally like Tony's the best, but I like a lot of salt and it's the saltiest

The rice comes with the mix. It's a complete mix. So when I dumped the package in it has the rice.
