- This documentary will take you on a journey through a police officer's day. From beginning to end, you will find out what it is like to be John R. Holmes as a cop and as a person.
I would like to give special thanks to the Bloomington Police Department for the permission to shoot this documentary.
This guy is now Detective Holmes according to his Police Departments Facebook. Good job.

Well when he has to deal with shit like 2 females arguing inside panda express I'd want to get out of general duty too
Yes. JR is now a Police Detective...
This one time I read a cop got put up for promotion and pay raise for shooting a guy. As soon as he was cleared of wrong doing, he was made detective
Bane-MGTOW-Conservative Sherlock Holmes 😉😉
I remember watching this when I was a kid and now I’m an adult and remembered this video 😂 it’s great to be back.
Me too!
the music espeically stuck with me!
Am I the only one who thinks this guy talks very quiet lol
it makes him that much more intimidating
Then people from northern Sweden must be VERY intimidating... we are known to be quiet and not much for small talk, lol. We can basically communicate by exchanging looks amongst each other, haha.
Maybe I'd sign up for duty within the Detroit Police Department...
*****
That's the ever fashionable people of Stockholm you're talking about. They look absolutely ridiculous. No masculinity left. We in the north on the other hand... this is where the testosterone of Sweden went, buddy.
*****
You're most welcome. We are known to be fairly (or very) silent up here; an entire coffee break of 15 min. at a workplace might consist of a couple words or sentences and then silence whilst everyone's enjoying coffee and a cinnamon bun. That's part of our culture up here; hanging out in silence is socially accepted here.
*****
Haha. The first one would be "jävlar", and literally means "devils", but is used in a similar manner to "fuck" or "godammit".
Pengar means money. Both singular and plural.
All these damn reality shows they should do one on you heros! God Bless all cops and thank you for your service.
+Col. Penopskot ...like..hm...i dont know...COPS!?!?!?!? bad boys bad boyss whatch gonna doo....
I'm going to listen to my nervous shaking legs and fucking run.
Um there’s Live PD, 48 hrs, cops and other shows
There is it is called Cops it is on tv
@@therealist3331 fuck u
Always loved the music at the beginning of the video!
I remember watching this when I was younger-ER
His uniform looks so proper unlike other police uniforms.
Jack Adair it depends where you live tbh. Other states uniforms look way nicer than others but I agree with you.
Paul Jorge our city looks great
rhode island state police have the best
Nypd has the best
Very nice man!! We had the pleasure of him answering our call. Great laid back personality!!
Great video, really nice that someone like you makes these videos and gives the public more of an understanding of what you guys do for us.
nice video. i've been on youtube since day one {literally} and this is probably the best most detailed sound ive heard in any youtube video in the 15 years ive been on here. nice shit.
Silly comments aside, this was a very well done short documentary of a Law Enforcement Officers day. It showed not only a minor infraction traffic stop, but also a incident where the officer had to react fast to a situation. Very Very Well Done.
Thanks for sharing man, this gives me a better understanding of what I will be doing.
Thanks for making this video man!
I love bloomington! My wife graduated from IU and the town is awesome. Lots of young cops compared to where I am from. Good to see.
I'm currently in a career training program for Criminal Justice. I plan on being a CO when I turn 18 until I'm old enough (21 yrs old) to be a cop. Thank you for your service!
That was such an awesome video, he's such a good cop.. so thankful for the job you all do...I'm applying for the academy in australia and fingers X'd I'll make it .. keep up the good work and god bless
pretty 10-4 video. I like how you kept it down to earth and realistic.
one of the best videos. really on point.
Who else has watched this way to many times
I had to watch this several times
Me, I really wish the music at the beginning was released.
Thanks for sharing! Good job on the video
That was really interesting. Thanks.
Great Video! Very well edited!
Awesome video! Thanks officer Holmes 👍
that part where he puts his gear on was pretty cool.
Nice virtual experience, thanks!
Appreciate your service. Stay safe!!
I thank you so much for making this video on the daily life of a cop, but not only that showing the life of a cop in my home city were my grandfather was a chief in this department and I dream of being a cop in this department as well. To anybody that is curious my grand fathers name is Phillip riley and he was chief for about four years I believe...
That you for what you have done to help keep this world safe!
Awesome documentary! Right on.
This was comforting to watch. I wasn't sure about my future, and I just applied for non-sworn peace officer training with the academy. I am more than qualified for other county and city jobs, but to my dismay, no luck. I am tired of staffing agencies who have no intention of getting you hired permanently, and seems like this is the only job where I can make a sufficient living for myself to live in the world, while also taking pride in knowing that my life would be with purpose for the sake of good.
Dude, thanks for taking the time in making this video. I'm living in the S.A. and would love to move to the U.S. for this job. I know getting into this job is next to incredibly hard non the less. But what are the odds of me having to join the force? Except for fitness, I've noticed there are hidden questions in the exams that could tilt the whole outcome? I'd love to know more
Cool video. I'm seriously considering law enforcement and this is a great insight into what officers go through daily
What did u decide
Loser
That was the badass way to put on clothes.
ong
sweet video dude. I always thought that most cops keep their radios at the station and get dressed in the locker room.
It's definitely an experience .... I'm a cop down in Texas .. I have 1 video up on my channel .. Feel free to check it out .... Thinking about focusing my channel around it
They can, its really up tp you where you get dressed up.
Usually bigger departments have the whole locker room routine
I thought it was mandatory, more or less... where I live, officers are not allowed to bring personal equipment home - and especially not weapons of any kind, unless there is a direct threat toward either the officer him/herself or the officer's family. But that's Sweden...
tj jefferson me too.
Such a nice cop. Seemed so compassionate.
I live in the same area thanks you for your services
Nice video, it really tells a story that cops are just standard issued people going to work. I really enjoyed watching, wish it was longer. Thanks.
As a Puerto Rico Police Officer and probably IMPD before this year comes to an end, i can say its the best job in a world!
Have you killed anyone yet?
No, what kind of question is that?...
Alex Garcia wao its sad to see a person like you in 2015. But the world its full of people full of shit in his brains, cant expect mucho of people like you.
Eric Arce well I thought people became cops to kill people.
Alex Garcia Bro wtf you dumb you know nothing and u failed school
Pretty cool video. He seems like a chill guy. There was obviously a lot of thought that went into the shooting. I would have liked it better if the sound mixing was tightened up. But solid overall. Good editing too. Perfect way to end it with the remote control.
This was my first love for a dream job after military much respect to you all who serve and protect.
Love how everything clicks he puts on
Interesting video. Always wondered about those radios.
I can't wait to become a cop
Same
It's definitely an experience .... I'm a cop down in Texas .. I have 1 video up on my channel .. Feel free to check it out .... Thinking about focusing my channel around it
+Deputy_Tatum i want to become a cop im in high school after i finish tht do i go to collage or stright to the acadamy
They don't take fresh high school graduates. You gotta be 21 to become a cop. And you will need job experience. My best advice for you is to work part time or even full time somewhere for 3 years then apply to your local police academy. .
Jesus, just like COD and the military
Great cop! You're doing a good job man, keep patrolling the streets!
You say that based off of one day of footage. Ok, I will admit I never saw one piece of evidence of wrong doing. Then again, who controls to content output? And Indiana is nothing but heroin related crimes, anything related to drug addiction really.
@@1truthbegettingtold275 actually it's Meth addiction that's the most common, heroine is up there though
Alcohol and opiates in general, then next comes meth then the heroin so yeah, guess you are right. Cannabis will be everyones favorite choice, maybe not using as much as a pot head but they would drink less on 1 joint or bong a week. But once all those pain killer popper switch to heroin or use it to get opiate fix then that demographic has shifted, even if they used heroin once or twice.
@@1truthbegettingtold275, why don't 33 try solving real crime? You know, where there's a victim. The definition of a crime is damage to one or one's property. Who is the victim when one is travelling, not driving 71 in a 60 m.p.h.? The state? How can an invisible entity be victim? Government means mind control. A.A.S.R.F.
Loved it :)
Very nice .
That is a great video! God bless you and hop you are a honest cop.....
I like it. just amazing... go get them bad guys Officer Holmes.. we are all so proud of you..
Awesome video!
im about to start classes to be a cop this summer can't wait
Please make a part 2 😊
Oh shit!! I was wondering if this would apply to my home town and the routines if they would be different. Then i saw bloomington, in. that's so awesome. I live in indianapolis. lol
lol me too
So do I but I'm in Avon
I was just down there for the week in Lebanon.
I'm from mooresville / martinsville 😄

Police officers look so sharp in their uniforms I might want to be a cop one day
fr
Damn, you were on live PD 7 years ago? Awesome.
awesome video!!
Great video my dream is to become a police officer thank you for making this.
Thank you for watching :))
This is my future job 🙌 then I'm going to work my way up to becoming a crime scene investigator
How many times is the Bill of Rights mentioned in pig training schools?
hey I have a buddy who wants to be a cop but he has a misdemeanor dv charge and is on probation but when his probation is over his record will be expunged so will he still have a chance when his record is exspunged ? because I know it varys by department to department.
So what's the schedule like? is it a Monday to Friday. Although some people will have to be on call for weekends I'm assuming
Why do cops always wear sunglasses and chew gum? Is it to look intimidating? Or is it just an odd coincidence?
Connor Vaughn I think it's a stress tick; for example people with stress or anxiety twitch legs, nails etc. Idk
Gum, is usually for stress, Sunglasses, Thats just for keeping the sun out of your eyes, duh.
Connor Vaughn TO LOOK BADASS!!!
Connor Vaughn I think it’s to looks scary because people do not like to get stopped by police
It's probably also so you can't see where the officer is looking. Real Gs move in silence like lasagna 😂
Respect to you and your service. I wish I could be a cop.
Kara Rodgers what’s stopping you?
U can tell he was good at power points in high school 🤣😂🤣😂
Hey awesome video, I'm down in Tennessee debating to join the force. keep it up.
After watching Zootopia, i feel like I want to become a cop😂
Emily Pottinger hahahahha same
SAME
Emily Pottinger oh cop movies are totally wrong and unrealistic, being a cop in real life is way different then being a cop in the movies
Lol, same
I'm a police explorer and I can't wait to become a police officer !
anyone know what kind of duty belt he has
hoping to be a cop someday. wish i could be a k9 handler, unfortunately not many women do so.
don't let that stop you. They said women would never wear anything that didn't cover their legs and they do, they said women we lesser people and should give in to me and women are independent in this day in age so if that's something you want to do don't let anyone stop you.
my advice would be to go into the military for military police which is open for women and be a k-9 handler and get the experience so when you get out you can be fast tracked past other officers who haven't done it yet plus the military will pay for your college it will be tough work but very doable best of luck.
I too am planing to become a Police Officer, I am an explorer in my local Police Department (which helps young adults know if they would like to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. This group has indeed helped my decision.)
l
jason The warrior They said women don't take 3 hours to put pants on but here I am still waiting...
Do you get too choose your police car every morning or do you have a specific car?
Daniel Blanco you have a certain car
How old is Mr. Holmes? Would like to know, as I just turned 25, in college for a Police Science degree and plan to get things really going after I'm out.
GREAT JOB SIR.
what's the song used at 1:37?
Great video
Police do a whole lot more than what we (society) give them credit for.
Awesome man! I want to grow up and join the military then go to college for criminal justice degree and then become a police officer
I'm prior military and just applied to my local PD. I have a couple of questions for you.
1. You look like you stay in shape, which is also important to me. How hard is it to get to the gym with an officers schedule?
2. How long before you went out solo?
3. How long before you get to try out for detective or something else?
Thanks for any advice.
Well whether or not you got into your local pd idk, but I'll answer your questions
1. Yeah, that is kinda hard. If you can my personal suggestion is do running/jogging/biking daily when you can before work.
2. With the majority of agencies it would be after a 3 month (8-12 week) FTO period.
3. Depends on department, but usually 2-3 years as a patrol officer.
1. Must cops are obese alcoholics with psychiatric issues.
2.its an unskilled job
3. As long as your only partially retarded.
1. Must have zero employability and be intellectually challenged.
its interesting that i stumbled over this video and that you live very close to me. and also a big coincidence that i think it was you that pulled up to cheddars one night because some kids were trying to sell stuff infront of restaurants. im from martinsville and would like to ask you a few questions if you wouldnt mind.
I always use to see the vehicle just with the driver. Is that so? Work just one cop per car?
Is this Bloomington California? I live in the neighboring city Rialto
+Gilbert Arciniega he says bloomington indiana like 10 seconds into the video
You keep your uniform and equipment at home between shifts?
Don't listen to these haters Mr. Homes like Smith here, this video had a great affect on me and educated me further on my decisions for my future in Law Enforcement. Thankyou for this outstanding video. :) Stay safe out there.
great video
What do you have to major in to become a cop?
Very surprised a department the size of Bloomington didn't have take-home/assigned cars as of 2012
I was interested in joining the military and then becoming a cop any tips???
what kind of haircut do police officers have? I've been seeing a lot of officers having haircuts now days, btw I'm working on becoming a police officer myself
Its a tough job... got to hand it to you...
him t the dude was being a complete dumbass and wasn’t complying.
19 and about to get my associates. Idk if I should pick law enforcement or air force right now. I feel like I'm wasting time as days pass by, I have to decide.
The beginning was legit lol 👌👌
How many hours is your shift?
Usually cops have to do 12 but can be 6
I’ve always wanted to be a cop but am not sure how much they pay, does getting a criminal justice degree increase pay?
I would love to be a police officer but im an overly sympathetic person. I also live in Oakland California so these neighborhoods are rough. How do u get over being nervous everyday or does it ever go away?
+Starwolf Champ it happens more than you think.
Holy shit you’re in Bloomington? Me too bro!
Why do you take your full uniform home? Why don’t you change out at the pct?
Wait so you can pick out any vehicle you want?
What model Glock?
And here i am making a whole brochure on what we want to be when we grow up ✌️
I am from the other side of the ocean, in the UK, and hope to make it in to the Emergency services one day, this video was pretty interesting, since in my job, I am a Security Officer, and the morning part is pretty similar, except the rest of my day is not nearly as exciting, as what I imagine being a Police Officer would be like, and we don't have the PPE that Security in the US would get either unfortunately, anyway keep up the good work out there, Id help an officer in need any day.
I am currently Tolers old and want to be caught this video is very informational thank you
Andrew Kirk
I work as a police/security contractor for NATO, and would like to point out that there is a component to the uniform that you forgot to include, and that would be the uniform hat/cover. Just thought I would let you know
Not that it matters but yes
How long does it takes to be a cop n is it worth it?
