Nobody and no channel breaks down AJ’s phenomenal talents like Alan. At her youth (as a child) we see her and hear her as a young child vocal prodigy. Fast forward and we’re seeing her as a young woman who has been performing and polishing her craft well over a decade. With her confidence and gifted talent, she now commands the stage and the audience.

whether it be her 10, 12 or later rendition style of singing. She's got it all compartmentalized
in that genius brain of hers and just decides in an instant what she wants to bring forth.
We get so used to her “original” videos that the newer once seem a bit off. I like them both and admire her re-takes of these classics. The first ones we’ve seen hundreds of times so they are burned into our memories. The later ones not so much

Great idea for this Alan, I love these comparisons of songs from different ages. In the case of Stay, not only is there a 6 year difference in the 2 versions, but the 12 yo version was impromptu, done for the 1st time on the fly, while the 18 yo version was well rehearsed. To me, that makes the 12 yo version even more impressive.
This is just my opinion, of course, but I find the “older” versions of “Stay” and “Feeling good” perhaps more impressive because of AJ's age (12 and 10). Thank you for your weekly column.

Love it! Angelina is coming into her own. It is wonderful to think that the old versions will always be there, while Angelina’s artistry grows and takes new directions. Some will feel sentimental, I guess. I’m excited to see what the future brings, both around the corner and in the long run.

Great analysis, as always, Alan! AJ almost always dramatically slows down both her covers and her originals when she sings with live accompaniment and is not constrained by artificial times limits (imposed by a backing track).
Thank you for doing this. I am stunned by her growth and emotions between 12 and 18. I get the sense that she was imagining the feelings when she was 12 and is really feeling them at 18.

Another great video Alan! It's kind of crazy to think how much video/music that we have of Angelina and she's only 18. To see her growth from a little girl to a young lady is quite astonishing. When she is finally known worldwide and people will want to know her story, there is a wealth of music, information, and personal videos that people can read, hear, and watch. Oh, just wondering, will there be a part 2 to Born To Sing? You guys did such a wonderful job with Born To Sing that I know some people have asked if there will be a part 2. Will there be?....

And yes, it did bring back memories...... But the problem with part 2 is that after the age of 8, her career trajectory expands so much it would be very difficult to capture that in a video. Arab Man did a great retrospective. And AJ did 'Ten Years in the Making'. So I really don't see what we can add to the conversation which is new

I think I preferred the choices that 12 year old Angelina made on Stay and that the 10 year old version of Feeling Good had a more impactful ending.

One thing that continues to disappoint me (very much) for the last few years, why haven’t these concert performances been professionally recorded and made available to her fans and the general public. Just look and listen to her in your clip when she was ten on stage, that’s powerful stuff. I know I’ve asked the question before , but never been satisfied with the answers. I feel management is missing a beat or two (no pun intended) by not getting these performances out to the public.
I would like to see AJ bring Ivan back to do cameo live stage performances of songs they did together.

I prefer younger Angelina 100%, while she will continue to be amazingly talented regardless the age she no longer has the wow factor that comes from being a a kid. ❤

Great video, Alan! In my opinion slowing down the songs does not serve her particularly well. She loses too much dynamism. What has always made Angelina unique is her tone. Her technique and timing is great, but her tone expresses emotions like almost no one else can. She does not need to add anything to that. But, she is young, and experimenting with her expression is a natural faze. I guess it will all work out fine.
For me personally , no doubt I prefer her performances at 10 to 12. It's much more smooth and I feel more emotionally attached to it. Her latest versions. is for me not so smooth , to much twang and it sounds more artificial .
I think she had a nice rich voice when she was young (not on NGT). Her singing Summertime in Seoul was one of the best vocals I've ever heard. But I mention "twang" and get my head chopped off, but that Amy and Adele influences, for me, are not helping her now, as she's better and has a nice voice, otherwise. I don't like Amy or Adele, so. But she is good at both ages. A lot of people say they think she was better when she was younger, but there was a child prodigy named Mary Small, and at 12, her voice was very low, she was known as the little girl with the big voice, and when she grew up, she was awful, twangy. AJ, is not awful!
I really loved the young Angelina..the current Angelina sounds as if she's trying to hard, which makes her sound drunk..or trying too hard or something. I can't tell you how many hours I've listened to the young Angelina only to be disappointed with the current Angelina. Someone has influenced her to become less authentic. I might have to step off the Angelina platform.
She sounds nice. Stay at 18 was too slow, for me, but she's good. Glad to know what Thiel looks like! Nice voice at both ages.
