This very video reenforces the need for a RUclips channel about how anybody can enjoy Bushcraft, even on a budget. Most of the videos today are all about gear. This Hobo video shows the more common man way and the way it used to be done. Excellent 🔥

“The more toys a man has, the less he wants to play. “ Taught that one in Army. Excellent minimalist video. As always a pleasure. PeaceY

An interesting quote. After looking it up though-it has no reference. It doesn't actually make much sense if you really think about it. Also, define toy? Women? Cars? Etc. Actual toys like a lego firetruck? Maybe the quote means hobbies, well that doesn't mame sense either. Game maybe, chess backgammon etc. Well surely they need an opponent? I think this is just one of those quotes that someone may have said that roughly equates to less is more. It is an interesting concept in a Carl Jung type of way tho.

It makes a LOT of sense. I am a South African Pensioner and can't afford much in the way of 'toys' - so I make my own. Next up is a tent made partially to my own design. Last toy I made was a hobo reel. And I want to make a wood gasifying stove. One way of other I have a LOT of fun.

50 of 74 years a hobo. You were indeed close to how hobos in the 1930s Great Depression got by. Of course riding the rails figured more into the routine rather than walking. Yet there were those that just walked town to town as well. I stopped traveling at age 66 because my leg got too bad to catch trains. I used a sleeping bag rather than a wool blanket. A blue plastic tarp instead of canvas. Tin can cooking. By this video you could have been me for many nights in my life.

Very simple, but beautiful camping, and love this style ..... as I'm an old lady, and not strong enough to carry a heavy gear for camping ... for an emergency I've got whole set of the gear for caimping at home, as our location is along the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by the Tone River, which indicates the risk of tsunami in the quake, like the one occurred on the New Year Day around the Noto Peninsula, located along the Japan Sea ... two years ago I began to practice surfing so that I can survive any tsunami, ha ha!😁

To me, that's how bushcraft should be! ....my question is, has anyone heard of getting ill by cooking in tins like this? I watched one video where dude cooked a his canned food over the fire, but issued a warning that he didn't recommend doing that. Regardless, I think I'm gonna have to add some tins like these to my pack! Awesome vid...thanks brother!

Oh yeah! A hot cup of coffee and a bowl of full Virginia flake makes for a great end to a day in the bush. Don't ever come to Marion Indiana and try to wash your face in this River. The skin of your face just likely to rot away and fall off. A friend and i went on a canoe trip on the Wabash River. We ran out of water. He just could not abide being thirsty. He dipped his water bottle straight into the water and without using purification tablets or boiling it or anything just started chugging down that dirty river water. And the hell of it is he never got sick!

The two uprights behind the fire, were driven in 6”-8” deep by pounding with an axe. They stood straight up. Firewood was stacked against them to (1) reflect heat and light into the shelter. But in the morning, they both leaned back about 6”-7”, no longer straight upright. All the stacked fire wood had slipped into the fire and were consumed. And he pulled the stakes up with only a couple of fingers. Some major adjustments had been made off camera.
