Okay I have to make one more comment. Hugo's point about not cutting costs when it comes to comfort in this area by maybe "eating a bit less" will probably also help one be comfortable in the "shorter" options for underwear and swim wear....or, at the very least, potentially increase the comfort of the people who see you in them!😂
Thank you Hugo for the shout out. I am a boxer brief man, its more comfortable for me. I love my socks from Mes Chaussettes Rouges, and I am planning my next selection, with now some underwear too.
Personally I think Micro Modal is one of the best (if not the best) for underwear. Micro modal retains its shape exceptionally well, keeps its color for a long time, and it's durable. You definitely want a very high quality Cotton if you do go with Cotton.
Aside from personal preference, I think it's a matter of body shape when it comes to boxers vs boxer briefs. If you have bigger thighs, briefs probably work better because they are tighter and provide some friction protection so you won't experience chaffing between your thighs / groin area. Boxers on the other hand are more loose and in my experience cause chaffing in certain circumstances. But it's also situational dependent. Of course, it won't matter much if you are wearing a suit, but something more physically demanding would require more support and more protection against chaffing. Briefs provide that protection for the most part, but also it depends on the fabric. It's been probably 15+ years since I've worn boxers. I'd be willing to try them again since there are higher quality options available these days. I couldn't wear the speedo / trunks like briefs. That would create too much thigh rubbing. Thanks for providing some info on probably the least talked about garments in the sartorial world.
I wasn't especially aware that one were supposed to be on one team or another. Without getting into details that could become humorous, what I wear depends on what else I'm wearing over it, as well as the weather, the occassion etc. That aside, apart from the appreciation of it and comfort reasons, the strongest argument for buying quality is that it lasts longer.
Of course Brian, you don't have to be part of one team (it's a joke actually and a way of presenting things), but it seems that gentlemen who favour boxers rarely wear briefs (or the reverse). Cheers, Hugo
Very nice video gentleman. I had no idea that there were high quality underwear. I’m definitely going to try out a pair. I love the music. Do you have any classical music suggestions?
Might very well need to get myself a pair or two of the briefs! The quality looks superb; looking at their collection, I am interested in their t-shirts as well. Beautiful Video as always Hugo!
Hugo, Just as a video suggestion I wouldn't mind hearing your opinion on the state of all things shoes! Any style changes, new offerings, good brands etc. I thought of this as I am browsing for a new pair of Double monks
I can relate to that Ratio, although their knitted boxers (in Sea Island cotton for example) may change my opinion. But for now Im' with you. Cheers, Hugo
Regarding Speedos, I contend that there is a simple rule: If you think that you don't have the right body for a speedo, then you are correct; if you think that you do have the body for a speedo, you are probably wrong. I've seen too many flabby old men wearing those things to approve of them broadly.
I don't mind spending hundreds of dollars on amazing quality underoos considering how many thousands of dollars I've spent over my lifetime on garbage quality ones. Clothing is something you should be willing to spend more on for higher quality. It will feel better and last waaaaay longer.
Wise words my friend. These ones, for example, are just our of this world: meschaussettesrouges.com/en/products/calecon-bresciani-1 All my very best, Hugo
Greetings from Azerbaijan! You are covering very interesting topics. Iwear both, according to my apparel. With casual I prefer boxers and when in formal clothes the opposite. If you don’t mind I recalled an anecdote about underwear.))) The man had a headache for many years. He went to the doctor, who checked him up and says: there are no deviations, take tests. The man was examined, comes back to the doctor. The doctor looked and said, nothing I understand, everything is fine ...Then thought and said: so that the head does not sick you need to cut off the balls! The man got angry, refused and left. But a week later he comes and says: I can’t stand the pain anymore, CUT. Well the doctor cut them off! In two days the happy man comes to the doctor, thanks him and says for the first time in many years my head does not hurt! They sat and drank, the man asks: doctor, I don’t drink much, I don’t I smoke, and now I don’t want women, what should I do? The doctor tells him: start a new life, buy a new car, clothes, change an apartment, and life will play with new colors! Well, the man did just that, changed the car, apartment, clothes. Went into an underwear store and asks 5 pairs of briefs in size 48! The seller looked at him and says: I advise you to take the briefs in size 50. The man replies: I have been wearing size 48 for ten years now! To which the seller replies: I have been selling underwear for twenty years and I see that you have size 50, and if you you will wear 48, it will put pressure on your balls and this will cause headache!!!!!
When I was young and still in school, I was very conscious about my underwear and thought that briefs were uncool. But as I grow older and got into fitness, I went back to briefs because I find that they accentuate my rear assets
I agree with everyone about briefs but I’m a Finish Taper and I dress for comfort and boxers feel better. Now I still have to have briefs because the ladies have requirements….and I will make that concession quickly for someone I’m trying to court.
Dear friend, cotton requires no chemicals to make fabric, whereas bamboo has to be chemically processed to create the fibers woven into fabric. Because of this, there are debates over how eco-friendly and sustainable bamboo really is. But it is comfortable for sure. Cheers, Hugo
Par excellent video on boxer and boxer briefs personally I'm a fan of boxer briefs 24/7 365 but after viewing this video I'm willing to try boxers I find it fascinating the details that go into making quality men's underwear thanks for sharing!

Very controversial topic I've been using brief since last year, and it's a big improvement, baggy are more comfortable but i don't want my friend going around and making himself noticeable under my trousers
@@SARTORIALTALKS They are very American. They were made for football in the 1900s but many different types of people prefer them. Gay people, sports players, and men who sit at the office 8 hours a day prefer them.
I switched and began batting for the other team when I was in 7th Grade - and I made the lifelong switch from Team Briefs to Team Boxer Shorts as well. I feel it’s important to note that all boxers are not made alike and that multiple cuts exist. I am sadly and frustratedly almost always in search of the optimal pair of boxers. Even the ‘luxury’ brand boxers you demonstrate here are sorely lacking in what I find to be key details; such as: a double bartack fly which rids the need for a button which can irritate men like myself who sleep on our abdomens, a 3 panel cut with seamless back panel, a flat/smooth and not gathered inner waist band, side vents, an approximate 4” inseam, 100% high quality and high thread-count textile, and an overall cut that is neither snug nor baggy. I would hope those would serve my Boxer Shorts Team well, for starters. There are brands that have come close - very close to perfection. I would be only too happy to continue this conversation outside of RUclips as well - you’ve only to ask. Thank you for a very eye-opening and interesting presentation. Thank you, gentlemen.
Dear Phil, the difference between cotton and modal fabric is that modal is softer and silkier, while cotton is warmer and more breathable. The two fabrics also have different origins, as cotton is a natural fabric produced from the woolly bolls of the cotton plant and modal is a man-made fabric created from the pulp of beech trees. You may see it called bio-based, semi-synthetic, or just synthetic because turning the pulp into fabric involves chemical treatments and an intense factory manufacturing process. That's why I clearly prefer cotton. All my best, Hugo
I'm in America, and I called Enzo Custom a couple days ago to find out if they made what they call "intimates". They don't. At least not for women. I felt a bit silly for asking them; but I don't anymore because according to you it's normal in France for men to get matching undies for their shirts. I feel so deprived! Men have so many more options than women have here. Everything here has spandex/lycra; and even the underwear is made with polyester, if it is of the lingerie kind. I'm not sure how many people realize that this doesn't support a high level of hygiene. So now I'm learning how to hand sew, and I'm going to use hemp to make my own under garments. Hemp and flax linen are antibacterial and dry quickly. Cotton does not have these properties. Also hemp is a robust fiber, and it softens over time. Cotton wears out over time. I find it interesting that cashmere is worn for undies; but I'm not surprised to hear that sheep wool and silk are used, because I know natural babies' diapers are made with them. Although, I will say that I was surprised when I first learned how babies' diapers were made naturally. Wool is used for the outer portion of the diaper because it's qualities reduce the likelihood of leakage. Silk is for the inner portion. I don't know how many people actually use wool and silk for their babies' diapers though. The natural diapering market seems to use cotton only. And I believe in England, the Norland College (for nannys hired by the upper class) teaches students how to fold cloth diapers made of cotton, if I remember correctly. All that was just FYI for any textile nerd who I hope would find this to be interesting. Chao
I'll personally say of all the materials I've tried linen boxers are far and away my favorite. I'll deal with cotton as well, but linen really does feel nice, especially after a long day.
