Watching a vid that sparks my interest and low and behold, seeing another phenom of the Aussie youtube boating community with a pinned comment! Stu you're a legend.
Excellent concept. A small suggestion is that, Drums interconnecting box pipe is not strong enough. Huge bending force is there. To avoid excessive bending, should use an another box pipe at the bottom and interconnect each other like an I channel beam.

15 dollars for a 55 gallon plastic drum. I figured 8 of em should be long enough, total boat makes a expanding foam epoxy so I'd get a couple gallons of that stuff to fill the drums with for extra float. Then do some aluminum bracing and decking with some carpet over it. That would give me a great base to add things in the future like chairs, motors, batterys.
Instead of drums take plain plywood plank of same total length/width of drums, put against each other to firm V-shape then cover whole thing with epoxy and right then and there you have the hulls - much less complicated and everyone knows epoxy is waterproof.. 😊
Very cool! I’d love to know more about the electric motor. I’d like to get one for my canoe and it seems they’ve been coming a long way fast recently. This is a well made diy pontoon boat, I’ve certainly seen much worse redneck versions here in the Midwest USA 😂
Thanks for the comment!! The motor is approx 3hp, and weighs about 10kg (sorry, you'll need to convert that to pounds - haha!). At about half throttle it runs for a couple of hours on a single charge, which is pretty cool! Apparently at 4.5mph, it'll run for 22 miles on a charge.
It almost certainly would give the same safety aspect - possible better as a small crack in the drum could leak the beads, but wouldn't leak plastic bottles. If you had a stack of them ready to go, that would work! It's also debatable whether or not having them really makes any difference at all, and whether just using a sealed drum (with nothing inside) is good enough!
Nice work Matt! Really enjoyed it. :)

Another way to save money would be to use old bottles and milk jugs instead of buying foam beans . I Love this build ! Thank you for making it !

You should put the transit motor on the opposite end the lidded ends of the pontoons will displace the water easier

Check out total boats expanding foam epoxy. There's nothing to hold those beads in if you get a hole.
Good job
How’s it go standing up and flicking lures
Amazing 👍😁👍

@@MattKellyFishing no worries, I’m an engineer so I hate pounds. Are the batteries located where the motor would be in a typical ICE outboard?
@@jeremiahrex Yep! That whole top of the motor is the battery. You lift that unit off and plug it in to charge.
I wonder if puting empty plastic bottles with lids glued on will give the same safety aspect like the poly but for free ? Maybe even more air can fit

Maybe try making some fiberglass points for the front and back so it's not so flat.
Thank you dear friend. I will try to do it soon.
The strain on my neck would bother me I’d have to have that chair on full 180
Could have filled drums with used packing peanuts?
Ou avec mousse expansive
You were talking so fast at first I couldn't understand what the hell you were saying. What type of beads are in the containers????
Polystyrene beads. Same thing you’d typically fill a beanbag with
