      Yeah, you generally need that kind of deliberate support and help to get where Magnus is, along with his natural talent obviously. If things were off even a little or planned wrong, then he likely doesn't make it where he is, maybe no where close at all since he could have given up chess for all we know. Interesting to hear this though since they don't talk about Magnus, his family, his relationship with them and others as related to chess, and his young years.

    To give everyone an idea regarding his draw againts kasparov (during that time kasparov was considered the best chest player in history, beating everyone prior to their match “magnus v kasparov” kasparov has attained a position where no one can reach, even winning a chess game against every chess master in the world at the same time (kasparov v the world). So a draw againts kasparov is considered a win, not to mention the age of magnus when playing againts against kasparov

    • @billj4525
      @billj4525 10 месяцев назад +3

      It was amazing, but those kinds of things have happened before. Howell vs Kramnik was a lot more shocking and statistically improbable. Magnus was a grandmaster at 13 when he got the draw. He was about 300-400 points less than Gary rating wise. Gary should score about 8.5 out of 10 on average statistically with that gap over magnus. Gary won 2 and drew 1, so statistically it's not nearly as crazy as people make it out to be. His result vs Gary wasn't nearly as crazy as people think. What is crazy is that Magnus was already a grandmaster at 13, and good enough to be playing Gary at all. He's one of the only chess players in history to be that good, so that is what's amazing about this story, not the draw. It sounds good when you say 13 year old draws the best player ever, but when you break down the ratings and performances, it wasn't that shocking at all. It was cool though, and i'm sure very very exciting for Magnus and his family at the time. It could be predicted with statistics though. David Howell did something more impressive actually. He drew Kramnik at 11 years old with a rating of around 2200, he was only a fide master just recently. He drew 1 and lost 2 just like Magnus, but the chances of David doing that with only a 2200 rating were much much lower, so it was a lot more shocking and surprising. David only turned out to be about 2660 later on. We can't predict much with these one games anyway. One game never gives us enough info about a player. David is the youngest player to draw a super grandmaster like Kramnik I believe. I think he has that record.

    This is why people are skeptical of hans, in one hand you have someone like magnus who the upmost respect for the game, has this type of life experience with chess,the support from his family knowing they had something special. In the other hand you have someone who has openly cheated, obviously doesn’t respect the game and is a bit on the sketchy side about showing variations. Idk how some people can still question the scandal

    Henrik deserves a homagé of at least a movie length, a book, or a series. There is SO much chess content out there but this is the first time I encounter a closer look than just a sentence spent on this absolute legend. an example for generations of how to support one's child's dreams in a protective but openminded manner. it's easy to CONDITION a good chess player and many have done it (see laszlo polgar), but the way Henrik approach the task of a guide and father is just exceptional.
