Being a woodworker for nearly 50 years, I think you're an inspiration to a younger generation. I appreciate your honesty, leaving your 'mistakes' in the video. Part of the joy of our craft is learning while we build. I remember my early years when all I owned were hand tools. Nice job little Lady!

This door is fantastic. It completely changes the look of that area of your home and I'm sure that the practicality of a sliding vs a swinging door is going to be a constant plus for you as you come and go through the front door and the laundry room door. Awesome looking door, I put up a barn door for someone and had a terrible time installing it! Whoever put the header in the opening to the house forgot a few studs, I did not like using wall anchors, but had no choice, after that, I'll make the door for people but sure will not install one ever again. Well unless it's my own door. Great job!!

I agree - hate doors too! First thing I did when I moved in was remove all the doors. Had to put them back when my parents came to visit, but aside from the one bathroom door which isn't [yet] a slider, I took 'em all off the hinges.

Nice job Shara, I have two of these to install in my lower level remodel and was going to buy the doors but after watching your video I'm going to make them myself. I like your design and the dark square dowells look great. Thanks for the great idea and for sharing with us.

Shara, wow, that’s a really nice sliding door! I like the natural color with your wall color, but black would look great too! We’ve built several of these for our loft area and never tried the glass inserts. That’s a great idea. We just go pick up our pulleys and steel stock and build our own hardware though. Another great project! Have a great weekend!

Thanks so much for watching! I’ve made my own hardware several times, but I got lazy (and tired of drilling holes in metal 😂) so I bought my last two tracks. But making your own definitely saves a few bucks!

@@WoodshopDiaries …. I really enjoy your great videos! Each project is well designed and with step by instructions! This sliding door is the nicest I’ve seen. It’s ok 👌🏻 to buy the hardware, plus it’s much faster! :) Lol…. Thanks again.

    Bitch'in job!!!
I installed a bifold (closet) door as the door to my bedroom as a "quick-for-now-fix", because furniture placement made a normal door unusable...that quick fix was 9 years ago...you've inspired an upgrade!!!

Thanks so much! So glad to hear this inspired you to tackle another project on your closet-sometimes those for now fixes aren’t as “temporary” as we’d like 😅 I totally get that. Happy building and thanks for watching!

Pro tip. Make yourself a spacer block to go in between the stiles so you don’t have to guess and measure so much for layout. Also if you’re going to build more doors consider getting yourself a dowel jig.

I have a dowel jig 👍 I just didn’t use it for this. Thanks for watching

Nice build. Prehaps tongue and groove to attach your rails and you could have used one of the grooves to retain your glass panels. Even planning the rails with a groove to retain the glass. just some foodf for thought. again a very nice build.
