This Astra in Elite Nav spec is hands down the absolute best Hatchback you can buy right now. Among the standard spec is front and rear heated leather seats. These aren't even an optional extra on most of its rivals. It's very comfortable to sit in and if you get one of the punchier engines it's a lot of fun too.
I own one of these and the Ford focus (both same age) I can say that build quality is considerably better in the Ford focus, not the other way around. Both great cars!
The Astra is a very good looking car. Can never really fathom why it hasn't sold more. I think the answer might be in the poor and uncopperitve dealer ships.
@Redblade if I was replying to your comment, my reply would begin with your user name. However, I wasn't, so don't worry your pretty little head about it.
As close as you'll get is the 1.6t petrol with 200bhp in the outgoing models. I have the Elite Nav with that engine and it really is a joy to drive. The spec on the Elite Navs is probably best money for car value in the whole Hatchback world, front and rear heated leather seats, dual zone CC, heated steering wheel, USB ports in front and rear, all round electric windows.
I’m still happy with my 2005 Club model - yes, fifteen years old! Has needed replacements for the usual suspects (tie rods, exhaust, cam belt) but still runs sweetly.
I think I saw the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse through my kitchen window.... A reviewer gave a Vauxhall Astra a complementary review! So surely the end is near.
@@minorearthmajorsky1476 My mother's family have been Opel dealers in Bavaria and Thuringia since 1922. My grandfather and father were both engineers at Opel their whole professional careers. Opel will always be my first choice in vehicles.
Looking forward to make my dream roadtrips come true! So far by bike traveled half Europe... Think it's high time to explore rest of world with my new Opel Astra Sport Tourer😉
Those "new" engines arent exactly new. they are the widely known 1.5 blueHDI and 1.2 PureTech engines from PSA, who happens to be the new owner of Opel. i think this was worth mentioning, no? The way you presented it looked like it was new engines, developed by Opel themselves
The Petrol engines at least are of Opel design, not Peugeot. The Puretech engines don't fit the Astra apparently. I assume the next Astra which will be on the Peugeot EMP platform will have Puretech engines.
I've just been on the new Vauxhall Astra Configurator and seem like the Astra doesn't have full LED headlights on any of the model. Apart from the ultimate.
I have one and really am not happy with it. It’s very noisy, it’s had electrical problem, the tyres have gone misshaped, road noise is very load and the paintwork scratches so easy. Good thing is it is good on fuel. Oh and it’s very very uncomfortable it’s the only car I can’t find the correct driving position
I'm going to buck the trend here. Bought a new 21 plate Astra Griffin in June last year and my excitement was quickly wiped out. Awful gear box and clutch, not particularly fuel efficient, jerky/coughing engine at start until it heats up and generally an uninspiring and bland car. I had such high hopes for it too, but the problems outweigh the good points. I've now traded it in taking advantage of the used car prices at the moment. Have only lost £900, so worth considering if you're in the same boat.
At least the prefacelift had huge amount of faults: the suspension was with 17" rims so uncomfortable that same year Skoda Octavia felt like an air suspension. The side column switches for wipers and side blinkers felt cheap as well as door handles. The cherry on top was that you could feel the wipers through the pedals when stationary. On a 2017 model! Not mentioning the lack of noise insulation that I had never experinced before. Same year Octavia and Leon beat all those faults and feel like more expensive and better cars.
When people keep the vehicles for 7🍉8🐇9 years this vehicles are now good for you it's bad enough for cylinder turbo I have one 6 years old now everything falling apart
Got one as a hire car. My 6yr old Seat Leon is better in every way but it is smooth to drive. Awfully uncomfortable seats, and lots of touches show it’s built cheaper than a VW product.
@@honestrunescaper yes it starts at more than 10 k less ,there should be a direct comparison on like for like specification as i just went on line and specced a golf up to the same standard , i can only get a 7 speed gearbox/2 litre tdi instead of the more modern 8 speed/1.6cdti on the astra so one balances out the other ,the golf has a lot less equipment as the astra the golf was £34,890 so at £6,000 less and less equipment the astra is a bargain spec for spec plus the motoring press say its an excellent car, badge snobbery strikes again .....
Vauxhall score higher than Volkswagen for reliability although admittedly if reliability and low ownership costs was important to you, you wouldn't choose either brand you would be buying a Japanese model. www.reliabilityindex.com/manufacturer

Good to see Vauxhall bringing out a really decent car.
3 cylinder, decent? 🤣🤣🤣
*this is my mommy's car lol not liar*
Believe me I have one there is nothing decent about it
@Herman Munster It's great to drive. Decent enough for F1 drivers 🤷♂️ (though I am probably talking about the 4 cyclinders)

Love my astra estate auto, never thought I would ever say that 😁
I prefer pre facelift with 1.4 turbo 150 engine
Got a 2019 1.6 t elite manual it's a blast
The Astra is a very good looking car. Can never really fathom why it hasn't sold more. I think the answer might be in the poor and uncopperitve dealer ships.
Am I the only one who thinks a VXR version of this would be amazing?
It would be a step in the RIGHT direction.

@Redblade once you've had a heated steering wheel you'll never go back lol. This is my second car with one.
Just had a look at Golf prices. £6500 more than an Astra. Is it worth that?. Ive got a 2018 Astra and I love it. May get a new one next year.
I will look at it next May and make my mind up. I would need a stronger arguement than yours not to buy. A lot of cars are now 3 cylinder
A Golf is still £6500 more
If I was going to spend Golf money, I think I would be looking at a BMW 1

José Fonseca these engines are gm and Opel sourced
Nice to see a cheap hatchback with full LED headlights as standard
Full led headlights come as standard in ultimate spec, which being almost 30k is hardly cheap
CMDR Evil no those are the matrix lamps, all cars come with normal led’s
I've just been on the new Vauxhall Astra Configurator and seem like the Astra doesn't have full LED headlights on any of the model. Apart from the ultimate.
Those are the matrix led’s. all astras have basic led, no more halogen bulbs.

Looks a good car, wonder what country this is made in ?
The Vauxhall version should be made in the UK (Ellesmere port) unless they're switching assembly locations for some reason.
Robert l built in the uk, designed by a Brit
Hatch is built in Gliwice plant in Poland, estate is made in Ellesmere Port for now anyway
Love it good job I'm all so a Peugeot fan too
It’s not a Peugeot, it’s still a GM car
0 to 62 m/h takes live time it sounds real fun !
Still waiting for a VXR variant :(
In 2022 a all new astra will come and a vxr version with a 1.6 petrol with 197hp with two electric motors and all together they produce 300hp

My list of top five.
Peugeot 308
Renault Megane
VW Golf
Opel Astra
Ford Focus

3 cylinder engines concern me, they aren't balanced and can vibrate
So no GTE GSi or SRi then?
Meh!
What the hell were they thinking putting piddly little indicators on the rear ?!?
When people keep the vehicles for 7🍉8🐇9 years this vehicles are now good for you it's bad enough for cylinder turbo I have one 6 years old now everything falling apart
Unfortunately much more expensive this way.
its got a fucking cvt for the petrol versions, what a disgrace, its not a toyota its a vauxhall, vauxhalls shouldn't have cvts.

Almost 30k for an Astra with that performance ??????
SEEMS NISSAN IS DESIGNING FOR THEM.
As tested. 29K 🤣
Do you honestly think if I went into Arno Clark tomorrow they would charge me anything like that! I don't....
Alan Ramsay yeah of course. But it’s such an unrepresentative model. Most people get Sri not Ultimate Nav
