My older teenage kids and I had never been to any Disney park. In 2019 I was remarried. Before we got married, my wife to be brought up the idea to go to Disneyland as a surprise Christmas gift.
We set everything up as a big surprise for Christmas morning. We got them all a Disney T-shirt and an envelope with their ticket inside. We had them all open their envelopes at the same time Christmas morning.
Let me tell you. It was EXACTLY like the old Disneyland commercials from the 80s and 90s 😢😢😢

We packed up and left that morning and we had a magical time.

Universal is a much better bang for buck, and while the the park is under 600 acres total, vs 27,000 that Disney World is, the addition to Epic Universe Park next year and the much lower cost for food, tickets, and Hotels is a much appealing prospect for families. A family of nine could afford to visit annually for a week on a one income household. Now a two people can barely afford to spend a weekend at Disney. Shameful, just shameful. And they lost their self-governing as a retaliation from DeSantis (whom disney helped fund!!) for daring to disagree with his policy for the don't say gay bill. It was basically like:

If you want one of the good restaurant experiences, they will be pricy, butvthecworst part is having to plan out your dinner reservations MONTHS in advance and have to work around unpredictable wait times for attractions to use them rather than enjoying your day.

People keep saying rising prices is a bad thing, it is not (for Disney). It is a pretty straightforward business tactic when you have a virtual monopoly on a product/brand. Let's say you sell lemonade. You could sell it at $1 per cup, and thus if you sell 50 cups you make $50. HOWEVER, the next day, if you charge $10 per cup, most people will walk away, and you certainly won't get all those 50 customers back...but you only need 5 to make the exact same amount. If you manage to get 10 customers, then you've made more money with less work on your part. Even better, your "clientele" is now high end; your product can have the perception of being high status. Disney can do this by getting rid of all the riff-raff of the lower and middle class. Shorter lines, the "right" kind of people coming in, less staff needed...and even better, they can keep raising prices and the wealthy who use brands to show off will always come. If you can keep your brand high standard, you can potentially keep raising prices. This logic is why Fendi can charge thousands of dollars for bags and shoes that are no different than that available at Wal-Mart. The only way Disney will lose money is if the wealthy people walk away from the brand...which they don't seem to be doing at present. They might eventually, but for now, it's still considered pretty high status to go to Disney world or on a Disney cruise.
