      Yeah it seems pretty universal that Conan has the respect of his team members, but he’s truly earned it. He paid his entire staff out of his own pocket during issues with the show and from what I can see he’s done everything he can to hold onto as many of them to this day, even though they are no longer working on a major production

    I do think he is 'a real guy' like Conan says, but he's a master of presenting or exaggerating his ideas and habits in a way that either lets Conan play the straight man, or makes Conan furious. It's great. I'm very glad to see 'human soil' finally getting official Team Coco recognition too

      To everyone saying he's exaggerating or playing it up... I'm contemplating and pointing out the possibility that perhaps he just has such immense respect and duty to carry himself on film professionally that I do think in front of the cameras one can come across more aloof. Every little thing is amplified and even being polite and waiting for someone to finish speaking fully can come across as angst/ appear someone is fuming... 🤷Just a thought. Plus , it's more fun to Imagine it is NOT an act.

      He is playing a character of himself it seems. Smart about Italy, obviously, exhausting and annoying to Conan at one point to where he could 'play it up' and maybe found humour in it to add to
      his show. Like Conan's hair ; its wild in his regular life, but he isn't walking around with it ten feet tall. It's just his identifiable character enhanced on stage

    • @luminousdragon
      @luminousdragon Год назад +156

      Yeah, i mean three things:
      1. Jordan probably slightly plays up his personality in the bits, at least occasionally.
      2. Conan brings out the crazy on purpose by putting him in situations or conversations that highlight his unique personality.
      3. When they edit the bits, they remove the vast majority of hours of footage and only show a few minutes. Here for example they talked about filming in itally for like a week or two or whatever it was, and in the end, how much footage was released of bits? 30 minutes? How many actual minutes of jordan talking.

    • @SleepingAcid
      @SleepingAcid Год назад +85

      @@luminousdragon Jordon 100% does play it up a little bit. He did say himself in another podcast episode that he makes deliberate choices on what he says if he knows that it will elevate the comedy.
      The only reason I think he doesn't play it up as much as people say is like the Scraps where he talked for like... over 5 minutes uninterrupted with a completely improvised spoken essay about how in his opinion Star Wars is better than Star Trek, his admiration for the hero's journey story template, making correct historical references in several different topics on top of that.
      Even if it all turned out to be 100% made-up and it was confirmed that Jordon was just a made-up character, that one thing shows some crazily impressive improv skills.

      @@SleepingAcid Yes, I dont think its very exaggerated. I have a somewhat similar speaking style to him, although hopefully without the doucheyness of his persona. I have a wide variety opf interests and know lots of random information on many things. I restrain myself from talking peopls heads off, but I think I could improvise much like he did on starwars about many topics, and sound very similar.
      For instance I made a 50 minute video about anti black racism in the USA: ruclips.net/video/HxU8cv2JEgE/видео.html
      I dont think I sound like Jordan in that video, but If I wanted to play up some of my characteristics that I normally avoid, I think Id be like him.

  • @GarrettGardnermusic

    I feel like this interview is a great example of Jordan’s personality. It shows how he doesn’t stage anything or play a character, but he also is really funny and intelligent. So he kindof knows when to play an angle in a bit that conan is trying to do, while still just being himself. Like his reactions are genuine, be he also knows which reactions will get the biggest response if that makes sense? Man what I would give to have a conversation with Jordan 😂

    • @emu_warrior
      @emu_warrior 8 месяцев назад +2

      Which is why he is perfect with Conan. He isn't playing a character, he's being himself, but he's present, smart, and self-aware enough to play into the bit, to make comedy. He knows he is a character, but he just needs to be himself and bounce off Conan. Makes it even more special because he's not acting.

Many comedians, many people for that matter put on a certain exaggerated version of them real selves when in social situations.

The "Jordan Comes In Late" sketch in which Conan asks him about the Star Wars dolls and if he is going to donate them to a children's charity and Jordan just replies "Undecided" is straight Pierre Bernard. This is a great video. My only complaint is that the writers try and assume the role of Conan and try and tease him, but I think they miss the point of their relationship (friendship?). Anyways, it's nice seeing the more natural side of him.
