I’d say Phoenix Wright is the best defense attorney in all of fiction. There’s never a point in time where he doesn’t pursue the truth, even if it means proving his client’s guilt. However, the two characters have a very different perspective on what a lawyer should be. Saul Goodman believes that a lawyer is someone who, even if they must break the law, should get their clients a “not guilty” verdict. Phoenix Wright thinks that a defense attorney must find the truth, even if it means the defendant is guilty. So, if we’re going off of, “who would get the job done better?” I think that’s a difficult question to answer. Because, if you indeed are guilty, Saul Goodman will find a way to get you the lowest jail time possible. However, Phoenix Wright would not defend the guilty. So it’s a very interesting comparison. If we are going off of who has the best chance of winning a case, I’d easily give that to Phoenix Wright. Saul Goodman has lost many cases before, while Phoenix only loses when he wants to. I rest my case, Your Honor.
I do agree with a lot of this, but to kind of counter that "phoenix only loses when he wants to" kind of entails to the problem with Phoenix in a debate like this. If he doesn't trust you completely or if the evidence doesn't lie perfectly to convict someone else of the crime instead of his client, Phoenix may not be that infallible lawyer that gets all criminals with a not guilty. Some cases are difficult to determine an exact truth no matter how hard one pursues unlike a typical Ace Attorney trial, so it would be hard to say Phoenix has the conviction to convince others without a clearly defined truth to it, but is still very much capable of piecing together the existing evidence and testimonies for his argument at least. Meanwhile someone like Saul has been able to get guilty criminals, including himself, with way less than they probably should have, which is a massive achievement in his own right. It mostly just shows that in a debate where there isn't a clearly defined truth between which defendant is guilty or innocent, Saul has more conviction and persuasion behind his arguments while Phoenix can weave a compelling narrative from the evidence at hand. So ironically enough, Phoenix pursues further because of his heart while Saul wins trials with his heart. It's an interest dichogamy that makes this debate enthralling.
I mean, a defense attorney’s job is to argue tooth and tail, even if they have to reach, to get their client a non-guilty verdict. I'd say Phoenix wins. Mostly cause of Manfred Von Karma. But Manfred didn't need to do that to manipulate the law to his advantage, he was just that terrifying that the law bent to his will FOR YEARS. I'm not saying the victory is guaranteed, Saul as you said has a lot of tricks. But with his experience with Manfred and the fact he only (canonically) lost TWICE across his ENTIRE CAREER (once on purpose and once because he was set-up), I think Phoenix has a good chance.
I would say the best prosecutor is Von Zeiks (if that counts). He always has control over the courtroom and only loses when he gets surprised over something he could not know.
I feel a lot of the achievements from Ace Attorney are a bit strange, especially since the Ace Attorney law is way more cartoonishly over-the-top compared to Saul's more grounded trials. So something like Manfred, while his accolades as a prosecutor are immaculate, the trial Phoenix himself faced him in didn't really show anything too extreme in-terms of deception and manipulation that Saul is capable of, rather more like a rabid dog that barks loud when someone approaches him too closely. Though it does prove that Phoenix is able to untangle any tampering that the opposition is capable of. As for the rewriting of the law scenario, it was in aid of Apollo plus having an entire country revolting helps too. I do still think both examples are great showcases of Phoenix's fortitude, but they are more impressive on paper than in context. and even if we were to take a lot in face value, arguably Saul has faced similar circumstances and managed equal, maybe even superior results depending on how you view it. Saul was able to manipulate, embarrass, and disassemble Howard and Chuck in and out of court who are quite respected and formidable in court like Manfred (though defiantly not on a 18 year some winning streak). And then once again in the finale where Saul has the entire US court system after him for abetting to multiple murders and a drug/cartel empire and lowered that significantly to just 7 Years (until his morals and arrogance kicked him to bring it back up to around 70.). but I feel the difference maybe that Phoenix was able to uncover the truth and piece together testimony and evidence to have that do the talking more than just his persuasiveness. Meanwhile Saul was 100% guilty of everything he did, but still able to win by his ability to manipulate others, directly or through subtle persuasion. Both are highly capable, and I feel both sides kind of clash really well together, just once with more nuance and loopholes to exploit and the other with a more straightforward yet chaotic setting that they can exploit
@@CoolCarGuy I'd argue the more complex one of Saul's schemes get the greater chance Phoenix can find a weak spot in it even if it's premeditated. @@gastor4335true, but Van Ziels Lacks the Manfred level of an unbeaten record. His intimidation comes from his reputation as the Reaper. There have been others apart from Ryunosuke who have beaten him I think.
I’m a law student. Phoenix is the kind of lawyer you want to be, Saul is the lawyer many become. Phoenix is a genuinely good man with a good set of morals. Saul on the other hand will literally do whatever it takes to win. You can’t be as naive as Phoenix, but also not as desperate for a win as Saul. In a civil case, I see Saul leading the arguments until a major contradiction emerges. Then Phoenix uncovers Saul tampering with witnesses and evidence. Once that is uncovered, it all goes to hell. Then Phoenix ends up in the hospital with major injuries as Saul’s former clients rough up Phoenix. Ultimately they both lose. Saul gets disbarred, Phoenix can’t walk or do the epic finger point.
Friendly reminder that Pheonix isn't called Pheonix just because of his courtroom expertise This man could get shot in the lung point blank and somehow walk it off with only a minor cough
he fell off of a 60 foot burning bridge known to have only 2 people surving falling off of it alone (not including the burning, btw) and only got a minor cold for a day 💀💀along with: being tazed with 600k volts and only being knocked out getting hit by a car and flying around 60 feet into a lamp post with only a sprained ankle whipped unconscious (like 40+ whips in 4-5 seconds) got minor amnesia by getting hit in the head with a fire extinguisher and more tldr: the clients aint doing shit to phoenix
If it went to trial, Phoenix would win. It doesn’t matter what Saul throws at him, whether it be forged evidence or false testimonies, Phoenix would expose the contradictions in them and arrive at the truth. That being said, if Saul wanted to, he could absolutely ruin Phoenix’s life. He doesn’t need to prove his client innocent, or Phoenix’s client guilty, all he needs to do is cast enough doubt onto Phoenix’s character to throw the trial. We already know Saul is capable of doing that thanks to Howard Hamlin, and Phoenix has already been busted before for presenting forged evidence, so it wouldn’t be that hard to raise suspicions. Create a bunch of commercials slandering the Wright & Co. Law offices. Point out that an alarming amount of his associates have been put on trial for murder at some point. Have Mike place some illegal contraband at his office, then make an anonymous tip. Have Huell swap out his legitimate evidence with poorly made copies. Eventually Phoenix would be booted from the case, and Saul would win by default. But like the video says, the real question is whether or not Saul would be willing to go that far. He had years to build up animosity with Howard, whereas Phoenix would basically be just some guy to him. And as corrupt as Saul is, I don’t know if he’s that cruel. Of course, the question I want to know is, who would win: Chuck McGill or Manfred Von Karma?
Somehow his law office/agency defeated the toughest prosecutors being manfred, franziska and miles that went years without losing aswell as multiple others, wouldnt surprise me if somehow phoenix and the others can attain the truth and expose everything he has done to purposefully ruin his reputation
Don’t forget, Phoenix beat Kristoph. He lost the battle but won the war and the whole of Apollo Justice was basically a seven year game of chess that HE masterminded. Also Phoenix is no stranger to legal manipulations (rise from the ashes for example)
@GOODM8N I'm gonna come clean before this goes too far, neither have I played Ace Attorney, nor watched Better call Saul or Breaking Bad. I made my comment purely based on observations about their respective communities I made in passing.
As a lawyer, Saul will acquit you whether you're guilty or innocent, while Phoenix can only help you if you're innocent. They're actually fairly similar. They're both outside the box thinkers, and both use bluffs and misdirection to win. The difference is Saul is more underhanded, and more focused on victory, while Phoenix only pursues the truth. And since Phoenix does little prepwork outside of a little independent investigation, he'd have little defense against Saul's evidence forging. If Kristoph could get Phoenix disbarred for 7 years, Saul would make sure he never practiced law again.
The thing is to me is that phoenix has gone against a laywer like saul and won handedly even while being very inexperienced, that person being manfred von karma Honestly Manfred is a way more terrifying and effective laywer than saul, someone who has literally never lost a trial and always gets his guilty verdict only ever receiving a single penalty which then in response he assassinated the defense attorney responsible. But then in a single trial, that manfred set up all by himself, coordinating abunch of other people, stealing evidence and assaulting the other laywer in a way to have plausible deniability and making all these stars aline for this very moment to finally get that defense attorneys son a guilty verdict aswell, to then have his whole plan fall apart bc phoenix wright just so happened make the perfect puzzle piece connections and his sheer force of will. Also while saul has ties to alot of people wright has defeated people who have significantly more power or higher in position to him, such as billionaires, film stars and movie producers, and the literall chief of police all because the tiniest slip ups they made, pulling apart their entire schemes like a ball of yarn. To me Phoenix will always take this dub. Also i mean if he gathers 3 evidence he can just enter turnabout mode, activate his level 3 and send saul directly to jail
I don’t see Saul winning this. As dirty tactic as he might be. Well, meet most prosecutors from Ace Attorney. Saul is nothing different to anything Phoenix has faced in court. Miles, Manfred, Fransika, all have done similar tactics before and Phoenix has not (unwillingly) lost to them once. The only way Sauls coming out with a win against Phoenix is with a guilty client. But even the Magatama would prevent that from happening most of the time. It’s hard to compare them in court since both are defense attorneys. So them fighting in a court would just not happen. You need a prosecutor. But here’s how I would look at it Phoenix is in a system rigged against him. A guilty until proven innocent one. He has very limited time, prosecutors often manipulating an already stacked cases against him, and still comes out on top every time. Not to mention, the extreme tolerance a Prosector gets compared to a defense attorney. Like, how prosecutors evidence have been shown forged or witnesses obviously lying and no real punishment handed down other then a stern talking too, where Phoenix would be disbarred on the spot for presenting such evidence. No matter the dirty tactics, forged evidence, and general bias against him. through skill, intelligence, luck, and his connections, he is able to take a win each time. The man has handled changes to the entire court system on more then one occasion. He’s kept up with Professor Layton mentally. Heck, even winning a case when he had amnesia so bad, he couldn’t remember his own name. Sauls in a system that’s made to be more even. Its innocent until proven guilty. Much more time is given to him. And Saul also does many scummy tactics and still has lost cases before. Switch their systems, and Saul would crumble in Phoenix system, And Phoenix would excel in Sauls. Phoenix is the better lawyer by far. If they met up in a court of law, whether it’s Phoenix system or Sauls system. If Phoenix has an innocent client, then he’s just going to win. He’s just fighting diet Manfred. Even in the worst case where Saul kidnaps Maya, in that Case, Phoenix still presues the right verdict. It may hurt him. But that’s the worst Saul could do. And he isn’t even likely doing that. Ace Attorney is So Much More Over The Top. Saul is definitely a pretty strong lawyer. But Phoenix dwarfs him.
this is very well put! I agree with a lot of what you say. But to offer a counter in favor of Saul, a lot of Phoenix's victories were more due to him being a stronger detective rather than being a stronger lawyer, or more accurately, stronger "debater." He lets the evidence do the talking, basically in favor of him forcing a confession out of a culprit by showing their fingerprints on the murder weapon. So while he can make an elaborate story with the evidence at hand, rarely do we see Phoenix actually persuade or convince his argument without it, mostly because in his law system, evidence is everything. It would mean that in a neutral setting as proposed, Phoenix will have leniency of innocence before proven guilty, but does make him heavily reliant on the facts, testimonies, and evidence to align perfectly for his side rather than convincing for his side. There hasn't really been a time where the truth is foggy and Phoenix is able to argue his defense without just convicting someone else of the crime instead. Phoenix's legal system always working in absolutes in my opinion works in favor, but also against him when arguing how strong of a lawyer he is. Is he a good lawyer because he gets his clients off in spite of an immense uphill battle, or is he just a good detective where the evidence definitively declares someone else as guilty or his client innocent and less of Phoenix being a competent lawyer who can argue his side better than the prosecution?
I mean, Phoenix won a case with amnesia and head trauma and, thus, no 'prior' information about the case. Obviously luck did play a factor, but gonna be a bit hard to top that without just pulling the trigger.
tbh I feel Saul would run circles around Miles as I don't feel Miles is used to facing the bonkers scenarios that Phoenix pulls out of his ass. Edgeworth more likely to have a breakdown in court similar to how Chuck did after Saul pulls out a picture of his dead father
I think Saul's general arrogance would stab him in the back as he wouldn't attempt to do anything as drastic as kidnapping Maya. And even if he does, Wright like you said has an entire justice league of lawyers he can ask to replace him, who even take away Saul's main advantage, knowledge of the law, as someone like Edgeworth or Franziska were straight up hand made by Von Karma to be prosecutors, which would imply greater knowledge of the law(even though Manfred sucks at law but we are gonna ignore that...). Hell, Mia's ghost can run the entire case, Saul has no idea who the heck that even is. And I find the entire "if Saul will be smart enough before the trial he'll win" kinda disingenuous. Like, it has the same vibe as "if Batman has prep time he'll win"
I think arrogance has a part to do that, but also Saul just isn't the guy to willingly want to do that unless he is in a life or death scenario, basically his moral side fighting him from doing anything too immoral. and I do agree, you can't chalk a Saul victory solely on him being capable of those schemes. But it is also hard to chalk a Phoenix victory off of just "if he trusts his client completely so Phoenix will win" Those two are very heavily skewing factors for a victory for each that simply can't be measured or determined, hence why I feel they are just wild cards that should be considered and can contribute to a victory for each, but can't soley rely on that alone to determine a victory for either
( Before I give my thoughts I just want to at least say that I haven't see all the Ace Attorney games nor have I seen anything from Better Call Saul/Breaking Bad. ) I would say that if Saul wants to have a chance against Phoenix in court, he would have to make sure of two things: Keep evidence away from Phoenix and be ready for the kind of cross-examinations Phoenix pulls out. And while I'm pretty sure Saul has plenty experience in both regards, Phoenix always investigates the crime scene and the relevant areas throughly before a trial and while he does bluff a lot, he often makes sure he has something to back up his claims. But what I think is Phoenix's ace-in-the-hole (and something I think that was failed to be mention in the video) is something he's been able to since his first case; discover and catch the true culprit in the middle of a trial. (He's even been able to do this without supernatural aid.)
(Also if you want to count Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney as canon, he did grow accustomed to handling Witch Trials, how Magic worked, and find the secret behind said magic. Granted he had Layton & Luke's help and his involvement was more or less an accident, but if there was one thing he got out of the whole thing was being a better puzzle-solver and adapting to new rules, something that be useful against Saul's schemes.)
With how insane Nick's durability has been, I feel like if Saul did try to assassinate Phoenix before a trial began, Nick would somehow end up surviving it and ending up with nothing more serious than maybe a broken bone at worst.
Saul is clearly the better lawyer because he fundamentally understands what being a lawyer is about. It's not about the pursuit of the truth, it's about representing your client.
Between Phoenix and Saul, it's an interesting debate who is truly the better lawyer as both can be considered essentially the polar opposite of the other in who they are and what they stand for. Saul was initially like Phoenix, a Lawyer focused on doing what was right, until he was pushed around by misfortune and gave into the corruption to become the type of lawyer he is now. ...And Phoenix too has been pushed by his own misfortune, but had friends help pull him back up to his feet and inspire him to continue fighting for the truth no matter how hopeless things may seem. After all, "The only time a lawyer can cry is when it's all over." The difference between them is boiled down to simply their mindsets and who they are are attorneys. But the more I think about it, Saul seemed to be ehat is essentially a Phoenix who gave into the Dark Side of the Law... A Phoenix who believed the ends justify the means... A Phoenix who stopped believing in finding the truth... So ultimately... I think the question isn't if Phoenix Wright can beat Saul Goodman... _But if Phoenix Wright could save him from himself like he has to others like Saul?_ Edit: Though Power of Friendship cliche aside, I think ultimately Saul could pull out every dirty trick in the book and throw them all at Phoenix in an attempt to crush his spirit... But Phoenix will never give up despite that and continue pressing on to pick apart Saul's tricks one by one. Ultimately I'd give it to Phoenix Wright.
(I havent watched better call saul) From the way you described him Saul kinda reminds of Aristotle means no? "Will break any Legal or Moral Law for a Victory." The ends Justify the Means huh?
0:40 - Are you kidding me? Saul would destroy Phoenix in a physical fight. Lightning bolts shoot from his fingertips. He's like a god in human clothing. Compared to that, Phoenix surviving a car crash without injury is meaningless. Phoenix is like a bacterium compared to Saul.
If Phoenix and Saul are in a courtroom in a fair debate and the facts are on Phoenix's side, Phoenix wins, of course. The problem is Saul's never going to let that happen lmao, and considering the times Phoenix has failed, you can see he's extremely vulnerable to slippin' jimmy shenanigans, eg. Huell swiping Phoenix's evidence prior to trial, or fabricating a family emergency to get Maya out of court for a day. Saul is also a _MUCH_ better negotiator than anyone Phoenix has ever faced. If we're dealing with either the extremely malleable Ace Attorney judges or the loose law procedure Ace Attorney plays with, Saul would easily be able to can the entire case as a mistrial whenever he wants. Saul wouldn't _just_ win, he'd probably get half of the Wright Anything Agency disbarred
The fight or mostly like the trial would something like Phoenix defending an innocent and Saul accusing the victim with a fake testimony that is actually his client and the culprit. In that case Phoenix Wright wins because of his Turnabouts situations and because he always discovers the truth meanwhile Saul can only win if his lie and corruption is very well planned without any contradiction also having a good alibi for his clients and himself, even if thats the case the megatama would speak truth and facts, Phoenix will still have spiritual help that can make things change so in that case Phoenix wins too Phoenix might lose if he gets the judge from ace attorney because he is the most manipulatable person ever existed and Saul is the most manipulator lawyer ever existed. Saul can only wins by illegal methods like ordering people to kill Phoenix ( i dont think Mike would do it ) but even that is risky because Phoenix will be under Gumshoe's protection and Fey's protection. Now the truth question is who wins between Dick Gumshoe and Mike Ermantraut It's obviously that Mike wins Strength goes to Gumshoe Speed goes to both Fist a fist probably goes to Mike Weaponry goes to Mike Defense goes to gumshoe Experience goes to Mike Braveness goes go Mike Intelligence goes to Mike Salary goes to Mike Gumshoe will have mercy on killing meanwhile Mike will stay calm
Phoenix Wright Literally Neg Diffs Saul Goodman And That's Why: Saul Goodman Is Only The Best Of The California While Phoenix Wright Is Literally Called "WORLD Changing Attorney" For A Reason.
wright is the smartest and best legal lawyer ever. He is able to crack the code on anything and can figure out the smallest slip in any story. I would rather have Saul goodman as a lawyer
It would be interesting to see each of these guys working within the judicial system of the other's world. Saul would instantly convince the virtual judge that he was correct, and unless Pheonix can literally find a guilty person instead of the defendant, then Saul's prosecution wins. Saul would thrive in that law system. Pheonix might actually be more adept in the more realistic system because he's actually pretty good at finding innocence of his clients pretty soon after starting the case it feels like, but the judge isn't convinced unless they can literally find and CONVICT the criminal in the same trial. If the client is actually innocent then Pheonix wins in the realistic world, but any other scenario Saul takes it home.
Honestly, something I don’t see people considering is the fact that Phoenix writes legal system would rival Warhammer 40 K in how unfair it is. You only get three days to do a trial and guilty beyond a reasonable doubt does not exist. It’s more like guilty until proven innocent. The defense attorneys literally have everything stacked against them, and unless they can prove without a shadow of a doubt that the defendant is not guilty that defendant still might go to jail. Saul on the other hand is just dealing with the American legal system, which is way more forgiving.
Basically: phoenix wins because he’s a video game character with magic powers who is impossibly good at his job. It’s like comparing a bodybuilder to Superman.
I'm gonna run with your example of the debate for this (aka the "who ate the last cookie" scenario) If someone were to make this crossover a legitimate thing, what would most likely happen is that both Phoenix's *and* Saul's clients are innocent, and when they realize this, they have to work together to convict the real culprit: Phoenix always fights for the truth, Saul just gets his client the not guilty verdict. In this case, they both win. I know it's not the clear cut answer everyone wants/expects but it's the most possible imo 😅
I hate to say it but I think Saul would because they made the show more lore-accurate in terms of which one actually follows the criminal justice system better. Ace Attorney takes place in an alternative reality where Japan's court system is outdated and they are forced to place a three-day deadline on all court proceedings. I wouldn’t see that happening in real life.
8:34 Spoiler: Can you imagine the debate who took the last cookie gone to mock trail and eventually Saul took it so seriously it goes into that direction?
So Saul needs; perfect logic, monotone voice, physically condition himself to not have a nervous twitch, not lie a single time and not let Phoenix get a single objection off so he doesn't turnabout the whole trial. Yea there's no way bro is winning.
my guess for all this, before you've even started is that saul's the better lawyer, simply because pheonix is an incompenent moron that can't even get basic law/court preceedings right 95% of the time and randomly yells objection in absurdly inappropriate spots, and does things that in a normal court of law would get you thrown out 5 minutes into the trial, meanwhile better call saul has at least a decent understanding of how a courthouse works, saul might get thrown out on the rare occasion, but not every single trial like pheonix would be, or just pheonix being jailed for fraud as he's clearly not a lawyer after 95% of the things he does he's just some dude that likes pretending he is

Phoenix doesn't have to outsmart Saul when he can outsmart the operation and have it cave in on itself.
Friendly reminder that phoenix got hit directly by a car flew into a lamppost headfirst and somehow only had a knee injury.
Friendly reminder that Pheonix isn't called Pheonix just because of his courtroom expertise
This man could get shot in the lung point blank and somehow walk it off with only a minor cough
please, he is way too sturdy for some goon violence, he is in anime world, not real life, thus never had broken bone
he fell off of a 60 foot burning bridge known to have only 2 people surving falling off of it alone (not including the burning, btw) and only got a minor cold for a day 💀💀along with:
being tazed with 600k volts and only being knocked out
getting hit by a car and flying around 60 feet into a lamp post with only a sprained ankle
whipped unconscious (like 40+ whips in 4-5 seconds)
got minor amnesia by getting hit in the head with a fire extinguisher
and more
tldr: the clients aint doing shit to phoenix
so youre telling me that, if phoenix doesnt have/use his airbending powers he'd lose?
We all know that Ryunosuke Naruhodou is a better lawyer than Phoenix, not taking the superpowers into account.
So he's basically Kristoph Gavin. Well, Phoenix beat him.
Von Karma would win, because Chuck would suffer greatly from the taser…
Somehow his law office/agency defeated the toughest prosecutors being manfred, franziska and miles that went years without losing aswell as multiple others, wouldnt surprise me if somehow phoenix and the others can attain the truth and expose everything he has done to purposefully ruin his reputation
Don’t forget, Phoenix beat Kristoph. He lost the battle but won the war and the whole of Apollo Justice was basically a seven year game of chess that HE masterminded. Also Phoenix is no stranger to legal manipulations (rise from the ashes for example)
Everyone's thinking these two would be enemies, but in reality they'd be boyfriends
This is the only true answer, they should kiss.
They're now my new otp 😍
@@HerlockSholmesREAL Also, Saul's the bottom
@GOODM8N I'm gonna come clean before this goes too far, neither have I played Ace Attorney, nor watched Better call Saul or Breaking Bad. I made my comment purely based on observations about their respective communities I made in passing.
Miles and Pheonix boutta add a third one to the relationship-
I mean if we're talking about who to hire it's been shown that Phoenix will literally work against you if he realizes you're guilty so...
Well if you’re not guilty then Phoenix will literally put his life at risk to protect you.
The thing is to me is that phoenix has gone against a laywer like saul and won handedly even while being very inexperienced, that person being manfred von karma
Honestly Manfred is a way more terrifying and effective laywer than saul, someone who has literally never lost a trial and always gets his guilty verdict only ever receiving a single penalty which then in response he assassinated the defense attorney responsible.
Saul Goodman is the live action version of Kristoph Gavin.
But here’s how I would look at it
Phoenix is in a system rigged against him.
Is he a good lawyer because he gets his clients off in spite of an immense uphill battle, or is he just a good detective where the evidence definitively declares someone else as guilty or his client innocent and less of Phoenix being a competent lawyer who can argue his side better than the prosecution?
pretty fucking sick. now when are we getting payne vs oakley?
#OakleyGang4Life
If Saul was in farewell, my turnabout he would get at innocent verdict for client and send Adrian to jail 😕
I mean, Phoenix won a case with amnesia and head trauma and, thus, no 'prior' information about the case. Obviously luck did play a factor, but gonna be a bit hard to top that without just pulling the trigger.
better call saul literally got me into ace attorney omg i love this
For me it was the other way around :D
RUclips literally gave me an ad for an insurance lawyer while you were talking about how Saul is proactive and Phoenix is reactive.
Same thing happened to me earlier in the video
I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE a fan case crossover between them.
*Now I’m just Wondering how Saul Goodman Vs Miles Edgeworth would go lol!*
tbh I feel Saul would run circles around Miles as I don't feel Miles is used to facing the bonkers scenarios that Phoenix pulls out of his ass. Edgeworth more likely to have a breakdown in court similar to how Chuck did after Saul pulls out a picture of his dead father
@@CoolCarGuyYou’re forgetting Miles’ secret weapon, basic logic.
@@CoolCarGuy Fair Enough.
Edgeworth sweeps
@@CoolCarGuynot if investigations games are considered, cases in those games are fucking stupid and yet Miles wins
Now i gotta see manfred von karma vs Saul goodman
So baisically, Alone Saul is better, but with help, Phoenix is better.
@idoshanintendo
though with gear Phoenix is better.
If not Guilty Phoenix is waayy better but If Guilty then Saul is a better option.
Its also to be noted that both times someone tried the “Kidnap Maya” strategy it backfired horribly. If Saul did that he would go straight to prison.
From what I know about Saul, he kind of resembles Kristoph Gavin in his twisted ways.
So we kinda know one of the wsys it may end up being.
( Before I give my thoughts I just want to at least say that I haven't see all the Ace Attorney games nor have I seen anything from Better Call Saul/Breaking Bad. )
I would say that if Saul wants to have a chance against Phoenix in court, he would have to make sure of two things: Keep evidence away from Phoenix and be ready for the kind of cross-examinations Phoenix pulls out.
Granted he had Layton & Luke's help and his involvement was more or less an accident, but if there was one thing he got out of the whole thing was being a better puzzle-solver and adapting to new rules, something that be useful against Saul's schemes.)
you're Hono,r, i want to cross exmaine the Parroit.
0:10 Makoto is Saul Goodman confirmed?
With how insane Nick's durability has been, I feel like if Saul did try to assassinate Phoenix before a trial began, Nick would somehow end up surviving it and ending up with nothing more serious than maybe a broken bone at worst.
W prawdziwym świecie , bez tego magicznego mambo jambo to Saul Goodman wgniótłby Phoenixa do podłodi jak młotek gwoździa
Saul is clearly the better lawyer because he fundamentally understands what being a lawyer is about. It's not about the pursuit of the truth, it's about representing your client.
7:55 it’s was a thing that i didn’t expect at all
Between Phoenix and Saul, it's an interesting debate who is truly the better lawyer as both can be considered essentially the polar opposite of the other in who they are and what they stand for.
After all, "The only time a lawyer can cry is when it's all over."
The difference between them is boiled down to simply their mindsets and who they are are attorneys.
_But if Phoenix Wright could save him from himself like he has to others like Saul?_
Edit:
Though Power of Friendship cliche aside, I think ultimately Saul could pull out every dirty trick in the book and throw them all at Phoenix in an attempt to crush his spirit... But Phoenix will never give up despite that and continue pressing on to pick apart Saul's tricks one by one.
Ultimately I'd give it to Phoenix Wright.
I would love to see a edgeworth v saul battle since we can get a proper prosecutor v defender.
(I havent watched better call saul)
From the way you described him Saul kinda reminds of Aristotle means no?
"Will break any Legal or Moral Law for a Victory."
The ends Justify the Means huh?
i wanna see Sau Goodman survive turnabout big top, and then im convinced
better call Saul Showed up to Phoenix and Miles wedding so I don’t think they would fight
I wanted to see Chuck have an anime breakdown, babbling about Jimmy, à la Ace Attorney style.
Good video but my god the still at 6:58 cracks me up. Edgeworth wants a fist bump and Wright is just like “YOUUUUUUUU”
from this 0:47 to this 1:07 got me laughing so hard, dude got all that happening without severe injury, no bleeding nor death
Literally been waiting for a video covering this topic for a while 😅
I'm just saying nobody mentions how Phoenix gets all his trials wrapped up in less than 3 days
Literally
Coughing Baby vs. Hydrogen Bomb
Wright is the best if you’re innocent, Saul is the best if you’re guilty.
Bro spoke facts
Hire pheonix wright if you arent guilty, hire saul goodman if you are
I love that everyone says that the power of edgeworth is logic
1:16 Also didn’t Phoenix fight Thanos and Galatus?
Guide to legal system:
Did you get arrested?
If No: yayyy
If Yes:
Did you do it?
If Yes: Hire Saul Goodman
If No: Hire Phoenix Wright
The fight or mostly like the trial would something like Phoenix defending an innocent and Saul accusing the victim with a fake testimony that is actually his client and the culprit.
In that case Phoenix Wright wins because of his Turnabouts situations and because he always discovers the truth meanwhile Saul can only win if his lie and corruption is very well planned without any contradiction also having a good alibi for his clients and himself, even if thats the case the megatama would speak truth and facts, Phoenix will still have spiritual help that can make things change so in that case Phoenix wins too
Phoenix might lose if he gets the judge from ace attorney because he is the most manipulatable person ever existed and Saul is the most manipulator lawyer ever existed.
Saul can only wins by illegal methods like ordering people to kill Phoenix ( i dont think Mike would do it ) but even that is risky because Phoenix will be under Gumshoe's protection and Fey's protection.
Now the truth question is who wins between Dick Gumshoe and Mike Ermantraut
It's obviously that Mike wins
Strength goes to Gumshoe
Speed goes to both
Fist a fist probably goes to Mike
Weaponry goes to Mike
Defense goes to gumshoe
Experience goes to Mike
Braveness goes go Mike
Intelligence goes to Mike
Salary goes to Mike
Gumshoe will have mercy on killing meanwhile Mike will stay calm
Excellent video essay! I would love to see some Ghost Trick content too

Phoenix Wright Literally Neg Diffs Saul Goodman And That's Why:
Saul Goodman Is Only The Best Of The California While Phoenix Wright Is Literally Called "WORLD Changing Attorney" For A Reason.
Phoenix Wright is the best lawyer if you didn't commit the crime.
Saul Goodman is the best lawyer if you did.
wright is the smartest and best legal lawyer ever. He is able to crack the code on anything and can figure out the smallest slip in any story. I would rather have Saul goodman as a lawyer

so to sum up: Von Karma vs Phoenix... Maybe phoenix will not win, but will force him to be a witness and acuse him of murder.
my boy saul
Some part of me wonders what would happen if Saul Goodman and Phoenix Wright worked together on a client, could they be unstoppable?
So if you are guilty go with Saúl, if you are not call Phoenix
The one that can get Palpark not Guilty
With the way you put this, i thought the debate is if this goes to trial. If not, Saul wins. If so, Phoenix wins
If saul and phoenix ever teamed together, district attorneys would be unemployed
If you're innocent, You go Wright.
If you're guilty, you get Goodman
FUCKING AMAZING VIDEO, AS ALWAYS
Y'know what they say.... If you're innocent, hire Phoenix Wright, but if you're guilty, you Better Call Saul
Go to Phoenix if your innocent
Go to Saul if you're guilty
Both are good lawyers.
I'm gonna run with your example of the debate for this (aka the "who ate the last cookie" scenario)
If someone were to make this crossover a legitimate thing, what would most likely happen is that both Phoenix's *and* Saul's clients are innocent, and when they realize this, they have to work together to convict the real culprit: Phoenix always fights for the truth, Saul just gets his client the not guilty verdict.
In this case, they both win.
I know it's not the clear cut answer everyone wants/expects but it's the most possible imo 😅
If your innocent, get Phoenix Wright, no objections.
If your guilty? Better call Saul
Nick obviously, duh
I hate to say it but I think Saul would because they made the show more lore-accurate in terms of which one actually follows the criminal justice system better.
Ace Attorney takes place in an alternative reality where Japan's court system is outdated and they are forced to place a three-day deadline on all court proceedings. I wouldn’t see that happening in real life.
Curious, did you watch and/or play the Apollo Justice trilogy of the series?
If you're Innocent, do the Wright thing
If you're Guilty, It'S all Good Man
8:34 Spoiler:
Can you imagine the debate who took the last cookie gone to mock trail and eventually Saul took it so seriously it goes into that direction?
if ur guilty better call saul
if ur not guilty git pheonix
So Saul needs; perfect logic, monotone voice, physically condition himself to not have a nervous twitch, not lie a single time and not let Phoenix get a single objection off so he doesn't turnabout the whole trial.
Yea there's no way bro is winning.
Está claro que Saúl gana si Phoenix no tiene sis amuletos místicos esos
my guess for all this, before you've even started is that saul's the better lawyer, simply because pheonix is an incompenent moron that can't even get basic law/court preceedings right 95% of the time and randomly yells objection in absurdly inappropriate spots, and does things that in a normal court of law would get you thrown out 5 minutes into the trial, meanwhile better call saul has at least a decent understanding of how a courthouse works, saul might get thrown out on the rare occasion, but not every single trial like pheonix would be, or just pheonix being jailed for fraud as he's clearly not a lawyer after 95% of the things he does he's just some dude that likes pretending he is
Veeery good video
Wasn't goodman murdered in rise in the ashes...? (It's a sarcastic comment, i know who the victim in that case is)
Another thing is that I don't think the judge or jury is going to buy the whole "superpower" thing
If the client’s innocent, it would definitely be Phoenix
Saul Goodman
