    You did an AMAZING job explaining this game!
    I read through the rules once but seeing you demonstrate it really made things concrete.

    I’m a little confused on Bottom Dollar’s ability. It mentions the horses that are past the no betting line, which pays out 1:1 for every player. Couldn’t it be interpreted the additional money equal to your bets is a 100% increase, ie, the horses past the no bet line actually pay out 2:1 for the player who owns this horse?

    Isn’t the number of spaces for each horse the same? It’s because of the secondary movements that 8 is the longshot, not because the board is longer…?

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  11 месяцев назад +1

      You're correct that the board is the same number of spaces for all horses, but on a real race track, the racer on the outside has a longer distance to travel. #8 is the long shot *thematically.*
      Mechanically, you're correct: in the apple and gate decks, no horse brings horses 7 OR 8 along for the ride, which technically puts both of those horses on even footing. Those two horses pay the same odds and cost the same amount of money.... i guess it's just down to the strength of their powers at that point? But i don't have it in me to do a cost/benefit analysis on those abilities. :)

      I destroyed him today on my second go (had to abandon my first game when I realized I was playing it completely wrong). It was like $165 to $30. But he was rolling horrendously bad; kept placing bets on his two horses that were completely out of the race. Maybe he was just taking it easy on the rookie :P

    I really love the concept and how it can be a great family game. But I was wondering if it is the same as the Horse racing betting gambling?

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  2 года назад +1

      i’ve never bet on a horse race myself, but yes, you’re absolutely betting on horses in a horse race in this horse race betting game. They’ve tried to make it more approachable by setting it in a bygone era, and omitting references to sad pony addicts selling the family station wagon in the parking lot for more gambling money.

    I noticed in the video, you setup the horses on the right side of the finish line, in the dark brown section of track..In the rule book it says to put them to the left of the line in the light brown section. Which is correct?

    Even though you don't have to pay for a free bet, do you still have to have the money. For instance, do you need to have $3 to make a free $3 bet (even though you don't pay it)

    • @SMG2fanatic
      @SMG2fanatic 2 месяца назад

      No, bet is completely free. However, no betting line is still in play, so you can’t place the free bet unless the horse you’re betting on has the helmet x’d out

  • @toon8657

    Great video as usual! Short clear and precise 👌
    I have a small quaestion regarding something you said at 9:05.
    For #5 horse "Bottom Dollar" are you sure that what you said is accurate? To me, the wording on the card says you gain $$$ equal to your bet on unfinished horses (not on the podium) that past the no bet line (horses on the last 4 spaces of the track during scoring). So in other words, instead of getting 1x your bet for those horses you get 2x you bet for those horses?

    • @trojan403
      @trojan403 2 года назад

      why would get 2X what you bet for those horses? You simply get the money you bet on any horses unable to cross the no bet line once the race is finished.

    • @toon8657
      @toon8657 2 года назад +1

      Thanks for your answer Captain Zane. English is not my first language so I misunderstood the wording on the card. The way you explain it makes more sens to me now 🙂

    • @SMG2fanatic
      @SMG2fanatic 2 месяца назад

      @@trojan403I have to agree with toon8657. It clearly states you’re gaining the additional money on horses that have passed the no-betting line. And since every player gets their money back for those horses, it is not a stretch to interpret it as “you get your money back as well, but you also get ADDITIONAL money that is equal to the amount you put on those horses” ie 2x
      The way that is mentioned in the video and by yourself may be correct, but the card is poorly worded if that’s the case.
      Also please forgive my all caps word above. Merely for emphasis, I’d have much rather used italics but don’t know how to on RUclips.

    I found this tutorial frustrating - sorry. The set up needs to be at the start, there's some gaps in explanation for me too, for example at 5:05 - the horseshoe, if you cross one off? Is that part of an action? How do you cross a horseshoe off?

    I'm not sure about horse power No.8 Nitro Nellie, any official explanation?

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  2 года назад

      i'm not sure what you mean when you say you're not sure. Do you mean that you think i may have explained the rule incorrectly, or do you mean that you don't understand the rule as i explained it?
      When you buy a helmet for a particular horse, if you have Nitro Nellie, you can additionally move that horse (the same one whose helmet you just bought) ahead one space on the track.
      i'm not the official source for rules clarity, but this video _was_ commissioned and vetted by the game's publisher.

    • @SMG2fanatic
      @SMG2fanatic 2 месяца назад

      Some horse abilities seem to be irksomely ambiguous, but surely amendable by house rules. For instance, say horse 5 is rolled and I already have its helmet, but I use the 5 on the bingo card to get the helmet prize. In this case, I would buy the helmet for, say, horse 3, and then move horse 5 one space as indicated on the card. Is this ok? I don’t know for sure.

    What would you rate this game?

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  2 года назад +1

      i don't really rate games with a number score... the Scales of Funstice help me determine whether they're fun or not. i'd call this one fun. It's easy to teach and play. It supports up to 8 players, but it can drag with the more players you add, unless someone's on top of getting everyone to log their turns. It won't be enjoyable for people who don't like luck, because there's a good degree of it here, but it's about horse racing, so i think you can hardly complain. :) The illustration in particular gives the whole game an air of frivolity and nostalgia that only exists in, like, the carousel/horse race scene from Mary Poppins.
