Thank you for the enlightenment. Got 6 tomatoes that have been looking at me as i admire them. I'm getting out of my chair to get them right now. Thanks, and God bless your efforts.🙏🏿
Thank you for your message, yes, I'm a scaredy cat, I haven't started my container garden as of yet, but your message has inspired me to get started. I'm in zone 6b. Again, thank you!
Ive grown up north, in NY and NJ. I moved to Alabama and thought i could do the same. Nope. There are many different things i had to learn, here. This year is my 'lets see what grows' year, as i'm doing certain veggies in 3 or more different spots. I'm checking on everything, continuously, noting the quickness or what takes a long time. Next year my garden will be the same size with fewer varieties. And yes, friends and fam will take what is not needed.
You gave some great thoughtful advice. The only thing I would add is... pay attention to your plants details... like, how many days to harvest. That guideline helped me to figure out when to harvest when I was a new gardener. ❤
Pam I live in boiling Florida and my garden is very little, I enjoy watching you. It's not easy to grow veggies with boiling weather and I get frustrated. Thank you for all the advice. God bless you and your beautiful family. Love listening to my favorite teacher!❤💛🕊️✝️🙏😊👋🥰👏👏👏👏👏👏💕👍
I would say to grow what grows well in Mexico, such as tomatoes and peppers, but they need good soil, not sand. Grow them in pots and part shade in the hottest part of the day. Water well with cold water in the morning and the soil will stay cooler. Make sure the pots don't get too hot.
We're also in so fl with this unseasonably heat wave. I mostly grow peppers and they have been taking a beating. So far the scotch bonn😂ets and scorpion pepper buds are drying. The jalapenos seem to be doing okay. I'm looking into using shade cloth.
And for 'practical' reasons, some veggies must be harvested when you first see that they are ready because if you wait they will be overripe or over-ready (Okra) or you allow 'Pests' that perhaps you didn't see take down your plants in a night (Tomato Hornworms). Some veggies have to be harvested to encourage the plant to produce more and others will go to SEED if you allow a couple of veggies to remain on the plant or vine too long (Cucumbers, Lettuce, etc...) Also, those birds might eat that bright red tomato or pretty blue Berries before you can get to it again...
My grow zone changed to hotter- 8B and i am having to switch up, what i grow now , during the summer Planting more shade trees/fruit . to bring down the temperture since i don't have any shade here.
I came to this video thinking I’ve heard it all before, thank you for making this video! You are so right! I’m going g to pick that tomato I’ve been looking at get big❤
I made mistakes moving to a different area of my state! The soil here is totally different from where we lived before and the field grass took over my vegetable garden. So, we built a greenhouse in zone 5, and could start the vegetable garden from seed the beginning of April. Already getting squash on the vine! But, the first year, I purchased soil that had spider mites!!! Had to remove almost everything, treat, and start over mid-July!! If I lived in zone 8, I would definitely try growing bananas!!
@@TheScaredyCatGardener You might like fresh bananas. My parents had them in Florida and they’re different from what is in the grocery stores. 🙂 I was given a banana “tree” but my greenhouse isn’t heated and when I close it up, the humidity causes frost to form.
I eat fresh 8:11 as my veggies come ready. If there is enough t to east and preserve even a pint or quart to ferment I dont wait to do multiple quarts at a time.
