  • In this video we walk you through how to measure the surface area of a portion of a point cloud using CloudCompare and Meshlab.
    Overview of Steps:
    1. Segment out target section of point cloud
    2. Create mesh from 2D Polygon (facet) or Poisson Recon
    3. Computer surface area using Meshlab

Hello. After Ctrl+S (2:20) it is not possible to save as "obj" (CloudCompare v2.12.4). I saved as another kind of mesh - "ply", but after importing to Meshlab it is still point cloud (instead of 3d shape).
Do I need to do some extra operation on my point cloud to enable CloudCompare to save as a shape ("obj" type)?

You should have a file type to select from when exporting files.
