For $600, she was living in a 3br house, with utilities, a car with insurance and maintenance, food, and a cellphone that was unlimited everything, cable, internet, etc. When things went south and she had to move out on her own, there was a lot of regret. 🤣

Aye bro listen... I had a girlfriend in college who once told me her dad said that a man should pay for everything (while my mom said the same as I grew up). I got my first job making $27k lived in a studio and paid $700/month in rent. She eventually got her masters and made $40K. I told her I wasn't about to make less than her and pay all the bills while she saved all her money. She ended up living with her sister and we broke up anyways. A few years later I started making 40k and came across an old coworker of mine making $100k and I told her we going 50/50 if she want to be with me and she agreed. We ended up getting married (now we bring home $160k together). I say that to say this... let your girl know your expectations and if she mad she can get to steppin. A 6 figure woman will enter your life soon after and gladly split everything. Hold your head up King!
Wish more young men were taught this lesson that you luckily figured out yourself. The problem is many will put up with the abusive girl who demands unreasonable things and then years later, sometimes decades later be bitter and hate women as a whole. There are many quality women out there but sadly many guys will just pick the hottest girl they can get and then put up with whatever BS behaviours she has.

I was in this guys shoes when I was in my mid 20's. My goal was to convert a mini ford escort like Gabby Petito and travel while blogging and selling my art. This was my dream for years! And then something changed, I think I just got older, because I started to want something else. My favorite blog for van life has been going strong for over a decade, it's called Tiny House, Tiny Footprint. They share stories of people doing this. Idk I started to think that van life would be harder than owning a house - there would be constant repairs, every week figuring out where to park/sleep, and if you don't have a shower in your vehicle, using public showers. I still plan to convert something like a small school bus, but to take it out on long weekends/ vacations.
I don't think it was that bad of an idea. He's 20, single, with no kids, and it would only be temporary. I could see if he was 35 with a wife and kids, but these days people have to get creative to get ahead. If staying in a van a few months will help him get ahead, there is no harm in it.
Just think if he gets a job making 80 K a year and also lives in the Van that means he would be making more money than what he’s making because of the spending cut of no rent
Has he thought about driving a semi. You still get to live in a van but you get to park it at the truck stop instead of down by the river. That would also result in doubling his current income
Great suggestion, but I’d be somewhat concerned about succession planning, with automation coming in, and his financial situation may make it difficult to get the necessary training.
Enroll in a community College or JC for certificate program. Ask girlfriend to help pay rent. Then find a job elsewhere as a certified welder in a union. The gf should make a sacrifice to move the relationship forward.
Vehicle living works fantastic for the right person - especially out west where there is tons of beautiful public land. I’ve setup my Jeep for it and am now banking everything I make for an eventual home purchase.
I thought they were a bit harsh to this guy. He's just considering all options and obviously willing to make some sacrifice, something they encourage on most calls
There is nothing wrong with living in a car or van while starting over. At least he has a job. If he could do that for a year, he would be fine. By that time, he might have more experience with the company and get that raise. Right now, he sounds like a just a hired extra hand. Once he apprentices under a Service Technician, then he will make the bigger bucks.

If you were single, good set up, good friends and your ALWAYS AT WORK it doesn’t actually sound like a bad idea you can make a major money move living rv/Van life in the first 1-2 years
The internet is great for certain things. However social media has made everyone think they are influencers. It's just not as easy or fun as they make it seem. I would have the difficult rent conversation with the girlfriend. And keep hustling to generate more income.
$1200 rent isn't bad. That's really good for the Atlanta area. The low-income and non-paying roommate (girlfriend) is the real issue. I'd start working on the side, build up more of a skillset, get a GED, and in a year from now, ask for a raise or find someone else who will increase my salary.

Yeah, when I was living with a girlfriend, she had a portion she had to pay in each month. If she couldn't hang with the agreement, she needed to leave. It was a great deal, actually.
For $600, she was living in a 3br house, with utilities, a car with insurance and maintenance, food, and a cellphone that was unlimited everything, cable, internet, etc. When things went south and she had to move out on her own, there was a lot of regret. 🤣
@@sbrazenor2 You paid for her car too? The Utilities, cable tv, internet and even the cell phone I can understand. But not buying food, her own car and insurance is messed up for you to do unless you're married.
Well she could still share his room if they are madly in love and also get a room mate for the other rooms.
But yeah, I think she should still get a job . Moving into a van is more for the single life , not for couples...
Do it! Get a van! Get a GED! Lots to put RV’s /Vans are like $475 a month. We need a follow up story on some calls!
This was painful to listen to. This guy needs direction! I hope he takes to heart what he heard on this call. And that he gets his GED.
He could go be a trucker! It is very close to living in a van, and you make lots of money.
That would have been a great comeback actually. Creative solution.
I think if you're in your early 20's, there's nothing wrong with trying the van life for a year or more. It's probably the last chance you're ever going to have to have an adventure like that.
Caller said entry level sheet metal installation. About 40k a year. I hate how Dr J inflates/hypes everything up. "Why aren't you making 80k". Well Dr J that takes years of experience and he would have to develop more technical skills.
I think he misunderstood, sheet metal dude is not HVAC technician, he needs to go get a certification and become an HVAC tech, and get a GED for sure...
Bob Wells has an entirely different perspective. He makes a pretty good living at it also.
Imagine being so broke you can't breathe, can't rent, can't pay taxes, can't make life choices, can't get footing in life... But thinking you should shack up with some chick and live together.
It happens often. Young ladies end up moving in with boyfriends just to help with rent, not because they want to take “ the next step”
That's this generation of simps for you, the guy probably feels like he needs to pay for everything and "provide" to even be worthy of having the girl. It's such a sad generation of wimpy, low self-esteem "men"
I have a girlfriend who doesn't pay rent. I see the problem.
Why?
Go solo. Kick her out (well, obviously not literally kick).
Break up with her
I’ve lived in a van for over a year, it’s great! 😅
the "down by the river" joke is so old and used so much and everytime the person thinks they are so clever and funny when they say it. So many people do it nowadays. Go to any walmart parking lot in the middle of the night and you will see people living in vans.
Lol I’ve seen it at Walmart and they actually have to put signs up that say “no overnight parking” bcuz it’s actually pretty common. But sad.
All with nothing to their name.
These guys made me search up “van down by the river” 😂 😂😂
Only idiots would pay astomnomical rents like here in Canada where you can rent a closet for 1000 a month. Van life is a great idea
I don't think you would be an idiot if you can comfortably afford it. Its better than living in a van or car. But for myself I am just surviving and not really getting ahead while I'm living in BC and paying rent. I am considering moving into my vehicle just because it seems like I wont be able to save any money if i stay in my apartment.... But I know shit would be tuff as hell here in the Canadian winters...
$1200 rent? I’d kill for that. My rent is $2000 in Sacramento region and there’s nothing for less unless it’s in a high crime area.
Yeah $1200 is really not that bad.
You really need two jobs and a roommate. And stay away from the coasts, that were rent is high
@@HHHPedigrees sup I'm your biggest fan !
Sacramento region had higher pay than where this kid lives. Access to higher pay equals a higher cost of living
@@KushtrimiMalcis Yeah, if one can land a high-paying job.
He sounds completely confused and doesn't really even know how much money he makes. Also he isn't paying taxes but will "pay it later"? He has no money and is starving where is he going to get money to pay it later? Glad he called in because he really needs some guidance.
Vanlife is great tbf but it’s not for everyone. If I was struggling I’d move in to mine permanently without doubt
Moving is not the answer to everything.
Why doesn't the GF pay half the rent? It is the obvious question.
Just be happy they didn't tell the 20 year olds on one minimum wage job to get married. That seems to be their go to answer. 😆😆
@@stevenporter863 John's advice on his own show is usually spot on. Sometimes on Ramsey Solutions the team's advice is questionable. John is my favorites on Ramsey Solutions. He seems to get the everyday Joe more than the others. Do you agree? Ken is also good, but he thinks kids should works and is wary about college. @@DominickSpanoMy opinion:
Dave himself is out of touch. Ken and Rachel mostly seem in touch with the regular guy but I get the feeling John always looks for a psychological answer and creates a problem to solve.
@@stevenporter863 Some people say that about John. Frankly I think his skill set works better on his own show b/c the majority of the callers are calling about a psychological issue type. On Ramsey it is usually a financial issue that yes can be linked to psychological matters, but this is certainly not always the case. I never felt his skills were really completely necessary for Ramsey Solutions when they straight up talk about finance. Dave is extremely out of touch with modern day.
I'd agree the military would be a good idea. If his girlfriend joined also they could combine wages and save up and the military could help further their education.
Still would be in the same situation that he's in at the apartment in a van as well. The problem is definitely the free loader. Can definitely make it on your own way more easily than dragging somebody else along the way.
In today’s generation, it is unacceptable to not get a high school diploma.
Did he say he had a live in girlfriend that was contributing nothing to household expenses?
Yes, he did. She does not pay rent. I would tell her to move out.
exactly! he only needs to drop the dead weight of a leecher girlfriend (NOT WIFE!!!!) and problem solved! his rent is not too high, the problem is his income feeding two people instead of one!
You can live in a van, but you need a 24hour fitness place so you can always take a shower. No it doesn't need to be fancy, you do need stuff for your windows so people can't just look in
I was in this guys shoes when I was in my mid 20's.
Why bring up Gabby😂 rest in peace
The Gabby Petito case all over the news helped me pick a rental vehicle for when I moved to a new area.
There's nothing as good as stability. The same place to eat and sleep. Warmth, safety. Protection from the elements.
Only move into a van if it’s down by the river.
I don't think it was that bad of an idea. He's 20, single, with no kids, and it would only be temporary. I could see if he was 35 with a wife and kids, but these days people have to get creative to get ahead. If staying in a van a few months will help him get ahead, there is no harm in it.
You're right just one of the reasons why I'm doing that van life as well to get ahead
Excellent suggestion!!
Otr ain’t for everyone tho
Great suggestion, but I’d be somewhat concerned about succession planning, with automation coming in, and his financial situation may make it difficult to get the necessary training.
Enroll in a community College or JC for certificate program. Ask girlfriend to help pay rent. Then find a job elsewhere as a certified welder in a union. The gf should make a sacrifice to move the relationship forward.
Should move into a tent instead. A lot cheaper and don't have to pay for ground fees.
Where do you park a tent with no ground fees?
@@rainacherienne1010 The sidewalks in California.
Why/where would you pay ground fees? Read up on stealth camping..
I like the idea but not sure how that would work without basic utilities....
Vehicle living works fantastic for the right person - especially out west where there is tons of beautiful public land. I’ve setup my Jeep for it and am now banking everything I make for an eventual home purchase.
How are you able to have a Drivers License? Without a home address? (P.O. Boxes don't qualify) -maybe still get mail from
Mom and Dad?
Every bit of land in USA is private. There is no more free public land.
roommates steal from you and take off while you are at work stiffing you with their bills.
That's one of the reasons I have trust issues, even with family members too since they actually stole from me.
Or they just don't pay their bill(s) in full ever..... so it ends up costing the same and sometimes more....
I thought they were a bit harsh to this guy. He's just considering all options and obviously willing to make some sacrifice, something they encourage on most calls
After finding out more, it sounded like they praised him for being willing to make sacrifices. Some people do well when you are straight up with them.
So he would rather live in a van than tell his girlfriend to get a job, make it make sense.
Do you know how many people would rather not work and try and get a better job going to school rather than working?
Hes whipped. But he's only 20 and there's still hope for him.
How did I know the first thing out of Deloney's mouth would be "down by the river" LOL! Love it!
So true I did it for two years saved 40 grand while working best decision of my life.
You’re going to make it Luis!
My brother went to school for HVAC and makes over six figures in Southern CA. He’s in a union though
The hosts are knowledgable but unless you've lived in a van it's hard to understand the appeal. I've done it for 14 months and wouldn't dissuade anyone from trying it.
I think van life is an excellent option. Join Planet Fitness and shower anytime you want. Get a decent butane cooktop and rent a small storage unit to keep your belongings.

It's a sad day that this guy's thinking about living in a Van down by the river! I actually have met people that live in a boat they purchased so they don't have to pay rent!
Yes rent is expensive so is everything else but budget what you have better stop buying things you don’t need like Starbucks eating out at restaurants stop buying new clothes shoes etc it isn’t needed
It depends right now I can't buy much extra but 10 years ago with less money I bought a lot more....
when he said "I saw it on instagram" and see those two just nod in silence cracked me up lolol
The only question they should be asking is why the GF isn't paying rent
No. The only way to be successful is to take control of your own life, not rely on others.
He’s is not paying taxes,I wouldn’t either.
smart girlfriend. these hosts must not know how telling your girlfriend to get out is going to go down.
Van life is a very viable lifestyle and you don't have to spend loads of money to trick it out, very low overhead, with a full time job you can save lots of money fast or get out of debt fast
Right so many videos of people saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in a short few years One of the reasons why I'm going to do it
If you were single, good set up, good friends and your ALWAYS AT WORK it doesn’t actually sound like a bad idea you can make a major money move living rv/Van life in the first 1-2 years
I was going to do van life but then I got into truck driving.. so kinda doing the truck life thing
Van or truck life is the way to go
The internet is great for certain things.
