    I wonder if standard hard drives like the My Passport can stand being stored outside in a detached structure. In freezing temperatures for example. Kind of hard to find a safe location not in your house.

    Good video. Can you "tick" the folders on your local machine to see which one is synchronized? - Liked that option a lot in Nextcloud, but don't want to have my personal files saved somewhere in the cloud.
    That would be cool, so if you know a tool that does it... --> just want to have the included folder highlighted / marked so that I can visually notice it and drag & drop files there.

    Thank you for such an understandable video. I have 2 questions. When you do your full backup once/month, do you want to put that in the same folder as the incremental backups? Also, what happens when there isn't enough space left on your external hard drive?

    Thanks for the video. I have been using Windows File history but it doesn’t seem to always show the changes in the backup. Would you say this program is better? I'm going to try it as a backup to my other backup lol. Thanks again for making it easy.

    Are individual versions of the files kept with the file backup, in other words: can you retrieve individual files from eg 2 days ago, 5 days ago or even further (depending on the size of the external HD) similar to Timemachine on MACos ??

    Never ever ever ever leave your backup drive plugged into the pc. if you get ransomware it will encrypt all drives leaving you with no way to reinstall.

      Good advice! I try to stay away from any downloads I don't know the source of, but you're right! Your backups should ideally be sperate from your PC.

    • @wd229

      I do not agree, I leave it plugged in all the time. If you are truly that concerned about security and/or worried about disaster to plug/unplug, stop being cheap. Backup on an external drive and purchase cloud drive space and backup on both locations. Or just get cloud space. Who wants to remember to constantly plug in and unplug an external drive? I don't, and I like my external drive hidden so its not noticeable, that makes the plug/unplug more of a pain. Most security experts, if not all, will tell you to do both. This product is no longer free and I'm fine with that, it's top notch. Secondly they offer an additional 250G of cloud storage for $30 more, which is dirt cheap, and will handle at least half the viewers needs viewing this video. I'm all in for $53, let the games begin! BTW - nice work EyeT!

    Thank you, your video was so logical and you answered questions that popped up in my mind. but I have 2 questions
    1) can I use the same external hard drive (i.e. WD passport) to back up the contents of 2 laptops? or each laptop needs its own external hard drive? would the easeus backup software get confused if the contents of 2 laptops are on there?
    2) instead of going through all this, why not just manually copy/paste whatever you need to the external hard drive?

    • @eyetvideos467
      @eyetvideos467  4 года назад

      1. yes you can use the same drive for both laptops. Just create 2 folders on the drive and assign the backup location to the corresponding folder for each laptop.
      2. You can totally do that, this just automates the process for you. With the schedules you set you don't have to worry if you remembered to make a copy.

      @@eyetvideos467 thank you, sorry if I sound presumptious but you are so kind and a no bullshit kind of guy, I like that. another question that occurred to me, what happens if you schedule daily backups, but when the software tries to back up, your external hard drive is not connected?
      a) it asks you to connect it
      b) it chooses a location on your current pc to back up to.
      c) nothing, it fails and there are no warnings
      d) it gives one of those indian microsoft tech support scam pop ups and your credit card info is stolen

    • @eyetvideos467
      @eyetvideos467  4 года назад

      @@steveprankcalls you'll get a little warning in the lower corner if the backup was unable to complete and when you plug the drive back in you will be able to resume the backup by opening the program and clicking the backup/resume button.

    Tons of videos on how to backup but none on how this software works to restore individual folders or files manually. I saw it in one video but I can't find it again. I think it showed that you can open up the restored folder and search through it like you would on your regular drive. I have mostly photo and video files to back up from one 12TB My Book to another 12TB Elements external drive. But I just want an exact copy (uncompressed) so I can jump into the backup and pull out just a single file identical to the original without doing a whole big system restore. Can that be done? I don't anticipate needing to do that but I do want a backup software that works that way. Thank you for your good video and for not talking too fast!

    • @eyetvideos467
      @eyetvideos467  3 года назад +1

      Yes you can explore your back ups as if they were your normal file system. When you find what you want restored you can right click and click "restore to original location". There are compression settings, but I have mine set to uncompressed so my backups are 1:1 & I believe that is the default.

    I have been using Backblaze as back up the one con is that if i have deleted the file on my computer the version on Backblaze will remain for 30 days and then they will delete. Lets say I have made a change or accidentally deleted the file i would like to retrieve the file from the back up let me know the options

    @EyeTVideos Question, when i look at the incrimental backups i see the same files in all of the backups. i thought it would have only backed up the extra files. can you explain?

    • @eyetvideos467
      @eyetvideos467  2 года назад

      I believe it only adds the additional files but if you open any of the incremental files it will show you the entire back up. I believe in the side panel to the left you can choose the date of backup you’d like to display however the default shows everything.

      Yes all you have to do is reinstall easeUS Todo Backup on the new computer or windows install and you can open, view and recover your backups.
      As long as the drive your backups are located is unaffected from issue.

    What are your thoughts about using a 256g flash for major backup continuous for like 1 year?... I got their paid version and want to set for auto back up... every 6 mo or year I will pull 256g flash then pull mark and put in safe...?

    • @eyetvideos467
      @eyetvideos467  3 года назад

      If that’s enough space for your new files that’s a fine solution. Keep in mind flash drives are some of the least reliable forms of storage, but if you’re not writing to them multiple times and you’re careful with them you should be good to go!

    Can i re-cycle my storage space for full backup options. For eg. 1 TB USB drive for backup and my backup size is 450 GB, so i can just do 2 months full backup. So instead can i configure for re-use the same usb ( 1tb ) drive for 3rd month full backup? or will crib for no space? Any pointers will be appreciated.

    • @eyetvideos467
      @eyetvideos467  3 года назад

      I would recommend doing incremental backups so only new files are added to the backup. Full backups will have you repeating backups on all prior files. If you have 450gb of data to back up today, and in 1 months you’re at 492gb you’d only need an extra 42gb available on the drive. If you do full backups you’ll need 942gb of available storage and 450gb of it will be duplicate data.

    • @eyetvideos467
      @eyetvideos467  4 года назад

      You have both options. You can create an actual system recovery image or you can have automated system file backups that update regularly.
