Red Wing Chukka Update | Resole Redemption?

- My fears were unfounded. The Red Wing Chukkas actually look really good now i've worn these Vibram soles in a bit. Just goes to show a little bit of fait hand wear and there is nothing to worry about. Thoughts?

Only thing I don’t like about those new sole is the profile,the toothed look. I would have looked for something smooth edged. Like the originals. Other than that, look good.
I have those same soles in my White's work boots. They're legit.

Hey Cameron, I have the same chukkas and I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of the soles you have on them.
The original soles are the best. With good rotation with my other boots they will last me a good while. I Could be wrong, but I sense that you still aren’t totally smitten with the vibram sole. So I say bite the bullet and swap it out for what you really like mate.
Just my opinion.

Sole still looks terrible
The bright white is obnoxious, but it disappears in a day. Those are beautiful, bud. I'm picking up some copper rough n tough work chukkas with my next paycheck, don't tell the wife.

Yeah, I wasn't sure on them originally. However, they look good now. You really couldn't tell the difference (unless you put them side by side another pair).
I 'v got the same type of redwing chukka, and resole them in black virbram. I think black is more suitable to dark brown.

I have two pairs of Moorby boots, one of which came with a Cristy sole.
I had a shoemaker put a Cristy Morflex (in black) on the other one.
Red Wing just rereleased these in the states and my temptation to buy them for the patina thunderdome is VERY HIGH. I love the way yours look. I prefer the look of your original soles, but those have aged well.
Just clean the leather uppers and the welt. I never clean my Moc toe soles. I may brush dry dirt off, but never scrub them. I prefer the dusty worn sold look.
I think it’s fine, not something I’d personally do but I have the weekender chukka’s myself from RW which I absolutely love. I might have done a brown or more gum shoe to keep it less high contrast if I was to resole
I like them. I liked the contrast when the soles were fresh, but they look better a bit worn in and aged.

They look great Mate! As far as the de-lamination of the sole near the toe is concerned, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The same issue has happened with my Red Wing Mocs - they're still going strong after much hard wear. I really like the ways the soles have developed with age - they look better beaten up a bit than brand new and shiny. Cheers!
Yeah, fair comment. I think i'll wear through the resole before anything comes apart anyway.
The delamination might worry me a bit but it’s probably fine. They do look good though. They did look a bit… loud… after the resole but now worn in they look completely natural.

Was the midsole changed as well? I wonder could that be the cause of the squeak.
To be honest, i'm not sure. It sounds like the squeak is coming from the centre of the shoe in/under the sole. Very odd!
I’d be curious to see them clean. I have a pair re-soled through an authorised (Carnaby St, Red Wing shop recommended) Cobblers. Disappointingly they left track marks on the side of the replacement sole, but it’s the normal colour match. They always seem to get darker anyway, and yours look good because of that. There’s a good ASMR type video on how to clean Thorogoods, that’s how I clean mine. Cleaning the sole is a faff though.
Is this the one you have send them in the post? It's weird the don't do them in the shop anymore. There isn't any noticeable marks at all that I can see though. I will likely get them done by the authorised company next time. I think I'll go back to a RW sole eventually.
@@CameronO Yes, through the post. They said in the shop it was the same company they’d sent them off to previously, when dropped at the shop. It wasn’t terrible but noticeable when clean. I couldn’t sandpaper it off.
