It's a pity LEGO in the 21st century is so preoccupied with licenced works. Rock Raiders is possibly the most criminally underused property it ever had. What's more, the graphical fidelity of its recent 3D games is excellent. A remaster/remake of this game in that engine would look as good as these cutscenes!
Based on whats been leaking lately, we might be in more luck this summer. In late 2020 LEGO will be having Ninjago, Hidden Side, *and* a new theme called Monkey Kid running at the same time. Three minifig-based, story-driven, original IPs. Last time we had three at once was Ultra Agents back in 2014, If I remember correctly. Still won't match the glory days of the 90's-2000's, but at least it's a little more varriety.
The massive nostalgia. This is the literal reason I've been interested on space, industry and engineering since I was a kid. Not to mention this is still the best teleportation animation I've ever seen.
Talk about nostalgia. Rock Raiders is still my favorite LEGO theme all these years later, and I've never forgotten this game (along with the first LEGO racers). I definitely had a love-hate relationship with it. I didn't know what I was doing half the time, so a lot of the levels became ridiculously frustrating. At the same time, it was fun and funny and really brought the theme to life.
+Silvernis77 PS1 version i had when i was kid is pretty ok and i still own 2 copies of it because one has scratches (the old one) aswell as i have pc version but cant install due im using windows 7 but still nice collection :3 (i also own two of the lego sets)
Later the lego movie I think they should try to make some movies based on different franchises... rock raiders incluided too many SCI references that could be portrayed for this generation.
The Lava monsters scared the absolute crap out of me back then. Coupled with the dwindling oxygen, some of these levels were downright unsuitable for kids.
This was always one of my favorite Lego themes. Just something about it made it stick with me the longest. My grandparents got me that big ol Rock Raider HQ set one Christmas when it first came out and I just thought it was the most epic thing ever.
Its too bad this game never got a sequel with more planets to harvest natural resources from, new but dangerous mining equipment, customizable Rock Raiders, new environmental hazards like poisonous gas or sink holes, and more alien monsters to defend your base from. One level that would have been awesome is if the teleporter malfunctioned and it started teleporting Rock Monsters and Slimy Slugs aboard the LMS Explorer. so you and a dozen other Rock Raiders grab your guns and go through the entire ship clearing out the monsters and try to shut down the teleporter before it brings more monsters aboard. that would have been awesome because I always wanted to see what it was like inside the LMS Explorer.
The only thing that would need fixing is the AI. A second one with even bigger maps and bit more interesting would have been so cool. Rest is cool. Music is even better.
superzilla784 🙂 Wow! You seem to have a lot of New Ideas for a Sequel to LEGO Rock Raiders. Perhaps you can ask someone or better yet start up your own Fan Project for this. As of right now, there are a team of people working together on "Project Island", which is a Brand New Fan-Made Lego Island game!
2:44 and so on: the music. oh boy this music and intro made me love the ame since when i was, what, 9 probably? i was th eonly one who played and liked it, others never understood how beautiful this game was (and still is, i replay it once in a while)
I named my Rock Raiders various names like Job Dude 1, Great shot. But then I had to name a few Stupid Guy 1, Stupid Guy 2... Because they would always walk over lava and stand directly in the way of a landslide; or, they would just stand around and do nothing when there was ore to pick up, energy crystals to get. As much the AI was supposed to be the same for every Rock Raider, they acted very differently. Some were good at defense, others good at reinforcing walls, driving vehicles, but there were some that would not to anything even if they were trained to do a job. They simply would not do it. There is one mission where you have to use multiple vehicles to find your way back to your base. I had like 3 Job Dudes that were trained in everything... And who do I get for that mission? Stupid Guy 2 who just knows how to blow up walls and himself along with them. Top 5 All-Time Greatest Lego Games Ever. Lego City Undercover, Lego Island, Lego Rock Raiders, Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga, and Lego Racers. Another underrated Lego game is Legoland.
I was a big fan of this theme back in the day! Looking back at this cutscene, I got to give kudos to the Rock Raiders. I consider myself a fairly together guy, but I definitely would've crapped my Lego pants if a freak accident transported me to an entirely different galaxy.
So, what happens in the first scene is: lms explorer is barely outside the event horizon of a black hole, and the sudden impact of the asteroid causes them to pass the event horizon. The black hole operates like a worm hole of sorts and teleports them to a distant galaxy. In that galaxy and more specifically they find themselves in a planetary system, and conveniently, the nearest planet is rich in Energy Crystals. Hence the start mining to hopefully return home. Correct me if I'm wrong
I don't know about you, but the mumbling noises the characters make to "replace" voices didn't really bother me much, in fact I find it very practical rather than lazy. It made the game easier to release worldwide without changing the size of the game too much. Furthermore, the comics which came with the sets didn't have actual text either so I find it an OK adaptation in that aspect.
Ryan Wheeler If you count all of Chief's mission briefings and all the mouseovers, it had quite a bit of dialogue. But on the other hand, the way the dialogue was set up made it easy to dub and replace the files for other languages.
If only they made a game like this as a tie-in to Lego's "Aquanauts" toy-line, or even their "Adventures," ninja, knights, pirates, "Insectoids," or astronauts series. Those were also cool.
I could never get past Frozen Frenzy as a kid until a friend showed me how. I was too retarded to remember you can only have 7 (max 8) Raiders down per Support Station and I kept running out of O2 before finding the Tunnel Transport.
You know, I may like fire myself, but the magma erosion levels made my hands sweat so much because I wasn’t even sure if I could get the crystals before the erosions consumed the base, even when I feel like putting up Power Paths to reduce said erosions.
Frozen Frenzy would often just crash the game and it was a miracle if I got passed that. Lake of Fire was truly a level you'd had to monitor the land almost every second. Still loved this game.
Just finished this game again for the first time in 18 years haha. I remembered a longer cutscene at the end strangely and after watching this full cutscene video I recall something rather odd.. I was dissatisfied with the ending to the game, at about 6 years old, and so invented my own, vividly recreating what I wish I'd seen; The Rock Raiders hurrying to the collapsing White Hole through which they first entered the System. The tunnel through space all but having dissipated nearly trapping them forever.. The LMS Explorer rushes towards the bright light of the swirling vortex and just as the galactic bridge twists into itself and disappears the vast spacecraft makes it past the threshold and emerges back in the Milky Way. The intrepid Space Miners back home at last. My mind cemented that as an actual experience rather than a lucid imaginary scene. Crazy.
never had a chance to experience rock raiders...but i peraonally think the sets looked cooler than power miners. and for those of you fighting over power minera and rock raiders...youre both wrong,Life on Mars was the best!
I like how Sparks and Axle appear to be the comic relief while Docs, Jet, and Bandit are portrayed as the more serious members of the crew, with Chief doing his own stoic leadership role back on the LMS Explorer.
OOH, I saw this set in the Lego catalogoue back then. I wanted it so badly! Never got one :( These cutscenes reminded me of Aliens (the James Cameron movie). Or at least would have reminded me if I saw the movie and had this game at all. Oh well, it certainly does now! The scenes where the rock monsters appear, and also where they run from the lava, would have given me nightmares if I see it as a kid. Those would be awesome memories.
Such a good game. I got stuck on a level because it kept crashing though. :P And Jet is such a cute bastard, saying "Whee!" and mimicking engine noises.
She does have her own Twitter and I don't know where it was. You know that her somewhat boyfriend is named after a Mega Man X Reploid? Did you also know that the chief, for his real name is Alex MacLeod? He could be the granfather of Billy from. Lego City Adventures for grandparents.
So wait, it the distant future, a space colony looks for a new energy source and mines for minerals? Is it just me or is there a serious Deadspace vibe here
The box art from Space Police III also depicts Earth as a polluted and decayed wasteland and Dino Attack suggested radiation spills were frequent on Earth. The LEGO Sci Fi themes paint a pretty bleak picture of the minifig's future* *well Dino Attack takes place in 2010, so I guess they had a bleak past as well.
Wow I played this a lot as a child and I never realised how good the cutscenes looked. Even compared to what we have now its on par nearly better. I have to admit I could not complete this game but cmon I was 6 r 7.
I wish, but it seems the Lego Classics (Lego Island, Lego Racers, Rock Raiders) Have not seen any real acknowledgement from Lego since the success of the licensed titles.

I like this game, glad it was in my PS1 collection back in the day. Too bad there aren't more lego games that try to present unique game-play like this one.
You don't need a virtual drive if you find a specific version like selectsoft, which lets you install and run it without a CD. The only thing you need a CD for is custom music tracks, and you can't use a virtual drive for that because LRR hates them for some stupid reason.
No. There's an emerge map with trigger and emerge squares. When a unit crosses a trigger block (on the ground), a monster will emerge from a wall in the same space as an emerge block that has the same number as the trigger just activated (assuming enough time has passed - usually there's a 2.5 minute wait time after a trigger in which that emerge number cannot be triggered, so as to not spam the level with enemies).
Ahhh, Rock Raiders. Played it religiously as a kid (still do but I'm much better at it now xP) with endless frustrations of watching slimy slugs dismantle my hard earned mining base, while my stupid dudes stand around eating sandwiches. Never did get to the end though, my copy of the game melted before I could get that far.

Nostolgia overload

absolutely. One of my favourite sets of all time. This LEGO set was AWESOME.

This is nothing like what Lego is today. It's not super meta and filled with references. It's just a good, light-hearted sci-fi adventure. With Legos.
I remember having this disc but I couldn’t played, I was just able to watch the miniclip and that’s all :((

Just an idea, but how about instead of making new themes they bring back, and update some older ones like Rock Raiders, Ultra Agents, and Exo-force.
Ultra Agents isn't even old, it was supposed to be the reboot of Agents and Agents 2.0, although it certainly didn't feel like it.
13:30 OUCH!, that had to smart, but THANK GOD Jet was around or they would have been in WORSE pain.
How in the world was it so well animated for being a video game in 99?
