Core memory of playing Contra in the back room at Hammer's Pizza with my brothers on those weird like hockey-puck style disk controllers the arcade cabinet had.
I wasn't sure about this one at the start, it seemed too easy and the bonuses were insane. But the difficulty spike was quite impressive, definetly certain characters apply better to certain levels. I think this might be one of those games that ends up with crazy speedruns and I am down for that! Killer playthrough and killer skills as always Ryu my man, love to see you enjoying this even though finger fatigue is a hell of a thing! Much love 🥰🥰🥰
This is a mix of a few Contra games. There are aspects of contra 1,2,3 and Hardcorps. They reallly stuck to the OG formula instead of that abysmal one with the panda bear. THIS is Contra. You convinced me to buy it. You should try Contra Shattered Soldier. Also, spread and homing shots cover a wide area but the shots are weak. Concussive (C) and the Laser (L) do the most damage. In Contra 3 and Operation C (Gameboy) those were my go to for maximum damage.
Last boss makes no sense at all. Size of a mountain, literally holding you in its hands an could smash you or eat you, but just chooses to be helpful and hold you up instead.
I'll be honest with you. I was so into the NES and SNES that I hated 3D games. Never even owned a Nintendo 64. But watching you play this game, I'm starting to see that they figured out a way of combining the feel of 3D with scrolling screen action, and I dig it.
I was always more of a SNES guy myself. Even though I did get a 64, I would always play the SNES whenever I got a chance. It is still, in my opinion, the greatest console. But yeah, you can see the appeal of adding immersion through depth and graphical improvement. It's cool, and a clever way to rotate the level itself without having to create new assets for the character to jump on.
You just haven't played the best one: Contra Hard Corps Freaking great sound track, great weapons, great gameplay. Everything about that game is awesome. Also: IMO, flamethrower is one of the best weapons in the game, and homing missiles can get you into trouble.
I played the demo on Steam and the controls were so laggy that I thought my controller was running out of batteries. I was extremely disappointed. Also in the steam demo the first level continues upwards after that boss.
like nemesis on re3 remake. they try to make bigger enemies with impossible situation to escape... but then let the enemies kill themself with that choices, protagonist should've lost when he grabbed you near his heart
Everyone seemed to know the Contra code even way back then. I love it because unlike most games you could use it to learn the game then go back and show off. Wish more games did that now I have mastered castlevania and ninja gaiden and a few others way faster. It feels great to because its like no Im not gonna play this stage again for 10 minutes just to learn the boss. haha it really is a great feeling to beat these shady games. Then once you master it you can take off the training wheels and its a fair fight.
Huge bosses are cool and all, but I'm sure they could think a better way of handling that last boss fight. It chooses to hold you but not ceush you and then die because of it, but also it punched through its chest and is fine but your weapons can somehow kill it! The game looks amazing overall tho! Very nice levels and fights
If they just shortened the levels to half the length, it could be a 5 star game. But so it's exhausting to run through the later stages and do the same over and over again.
Waterfall boss was annoying in the Contra DS version. He also has an one attack that I dislike where he tries to stab you with his tail. More annoying then when he slightly shifts left or right before he strikes with his arms.
I'd love to see you check out Zelda 2 Enhanced PC edition, aka Zelda Again: Link is Adventuresome. Its incredible. Bumps Zelda 2 up my list to right below LttP for my fav games of the franchise.
are we going to ignore the fact that he has an motorcycle that is invincible as long as you are alive? 24:39 nice of them to add giant turds. that mountain is literally shitting on you. 27:12 looks like an old lady having a fit. throwing stuff at you 30:57 why you buying more hp? wasted a point. just dont get hit, and git good bruh 33:17 In Soviet Russia,, homing missile touch you!
OMG Ryukahr pls learn the game mechanics. Rule 1 for contra: never let go of the fire Button,EXCEPT when u climb a wall....... U should know that from super Contra.
Dang Mike matei spent 15hrs on two levels I think on hard mode, didn't use weapon upgrades until the last two hours. No perks. Didn't pass it unfortunately
This game really did Justice to the Contra legacy. The only major strike against it that I have seen so far is no online multiplayer. A massive sin in my opinion.
The way's this game could have changed my mind simple people that you unlock regardless of how have a story or at most can be played is in that mode any lives that you earn death not included which i got past 100 remain more so after your game saves.

I'm excited for the deathless 16 level victory video!

Yeah Castlevania back to being 2D/2.5D would be cool to have.
