This game (Super Probotector in the UK) and Mario All-Stars were the first games I ever owned. Played this to death in hard mode as a kid and I still got it today at age 38, muscle memory is strong lol
This is a tough ass game, for sure. 😬 Loved the run. It's nice to hear one's perspective on the Contra games, as opposed to the countless voiceless runs I see on RUclips. Your reactions to everything that went on was priceless. 😄
@@joshmartin2744yeah, once you discover the trick, the boss becomes a joke. That said, it's still a bullshit design for a boss, and I imagine they intended for us not to discover that little secret. still, you can occasionally fuck up, even knowing this maneuver
This game was censored in the EU. They removed all humans, even the protagonist was a robot and they renamed it to "Super Probotector". I got it for the Wii Virtual Console and remember thinking "this is a contra ripoff for the SNES", not realizing it WAS Contra until years later.
16:00 This is where I create my save state when I play this. The best stage music ever. It really adds an extra level of fun to this stage for me. Even had to get the .mp3 for this it sounds so good.
Bro the memories that you’ve brought back with this game right here!!! The up up down down!! Man and the music 🤌🏾💪🏾🔥. I’ve gotta game for you and I believe it was on Sega and or SNES, it’s called Gunstar Heroes you’ll instantly love this game, a true treasure. Please give it a try . Love your videos, you’re the king of MM 2 btw
Finally beat this game on easy mode last night, after 25 years of trying lol. Watching you play in hard mode is both satisfying and very disheartening. Maybe in another 25 years ill beat normal mode.
The flamethrower on level 3 is perfect for that stage. It goes through enemies and can reach bosses weak spots through their armor. Plus you can whip it! Also if you hold L + R you'll pose like a bad ass, and do a spinning jump attack firing both your weapons if you shoot. Overhead levels, you'll spin in place, effectively turning you into a blender with the right weapons. Lastly on stage 4, if you find yourself on a spinner you can press L or R to hold yourself straight or increase the speed in which you turn!
Downside of flamer is: you can't swap it while shooting it, and damage is a must at hard difficulty. I will always go for double C because of an insane damage when swapping while shooting. Have beaten this game on hard, but i always die atleast once at the last stage.
@@rebby5292 Yep, always tap LR while shooting and you can do way more damage. This works best with C-missiles and Lasers. Since C's do the most damage it's good to murder some of those bosses with double C's as quicly as you can before they can screw you over.
Another tip for easy one ups is the eyeball in the roulette,it has one of the highest,if not the highest farming scores in the entire game! With 4-5 eyes you get one up! And it is also from the easiest to avoid as a phase while killing them! In this manner i beat this game on hard mode for the first time years back in my snes! 😉 The hype was overwhelming! 😊
I love this game but this difficulty makes me depressed when I play it lol. I always have Ryu on in the background while I'm making my RUclips videos. Good stuff (:
During the Metal Alien fight on the wall in stage 6, a much easier way to dodge him is press up+jump to jump straight up, then hold right to grab the wall again.
When I was a kid, my parents took us to Toys R Us and allowed each of us to pick out a random NES game. I saw Contra and wanted to get it. But I saw that there was a skull/alien on the front of the game itself, and thought that if I chose it, my mom would take the game away and not let me play it. So I chose Q-bert. Q-bert. Thankfully years later when this came out, my dad's friend worked at the local newspaper and got an early review copy, and he'd often give them to us to play. We played the crap out of this, so good.
Last year, I finally beat this game. I didn't do it on hard mode, but still I could barely do it. I had to play it so many times. But damn was it satisfying, and the game kicks absolute ass. I know this video is old, but I'd love to see you play Contra Hard Corps on Genesis, it's really hard too.
You gotta do the double paddle button pose on stage 1 when the plane drops the fire bombs 😢 It's just not the same if you don't. Gotta know when to pose.
this game is impossible to play without a controller, tried it on my phone and almost threw it in frustration, but still they really don't make them this fun any more
I strongly believe that the developers in each game know some tricks,or assumed they will be used! But left them out there to check them out our selfs while playing & became better.😉
As a teenager in Australia I was always slightly bitter that we got Super Probotector rather than Contra 3, because I wanted to have 'the original' and thought 'Probotector' was a truly awful name. These days though I think the mecha main characters really fit in with the rest of the visual design more than the Rambo guys do.
For me, Contra: Hard Corps/Probotector on Mega Drive is even harder than Contra III/Super Probotector. Still, Super is hard as shit on Normal, so well done on taking down hard mode.
I played this game recently and could not get through hard mode, so I went and tried to rewatch you beat it on twitch only to find out i had to subscribe to watch you beat it now... So I happily pay, and watch you nail it. As soon as its over, I open youtube, and the FIRST video on my feed is this randomly uploaded video of the thing I subscribed to see. Crazy. This is your best work though brother, gotta get back to this hard retro gaming content. Still waiting for the day you decide to finish Super R type.
@@sd-ex9je I always played hard mode. For the best ending. Then I found out my aunt played the game. When we played, we started from easy and played on through to hard. I found that was the best way to play it.
As a kid i had a controller with auto funktion, i switched weaponswap on permanennt outo xD The downside of this was that the swab was so fast tat when i died i lost both weapons.
As if... 10yo kids would be screaming and raging, and the few who did complete it would have likely rented it multiple times and only beat it after tons of consistent effort. especially back then with no internet.

I'm amazed he doesn't know how to speed scale walls. You have to jump up, and re-grab the wall otherwise, you'll fall. Could've saved himself a few minutes in Stage 3 (Old Refinery).
Actually I was a little disappointed about this game, the graphics are nice, you can hang from the walls and ceilings, you can carry 2 weapons at a time and also there is new buttons to keep shooting while standing in one place, the problem is the duration of the game and the stages. The top view stages are horrible, very hard to control, almoust impossible bosses, also the guys inside the capsule thing if you look directly at them they just take cover, and if you duck they keep shooting, so even when you are still alive you have to stand up so this is a cheap death. So taking sways the top view stages, there are only 4 normal stages, and some of them are super short, and some bosses are just annoying like in the third stage you are climbing the wall and that thing with the drill keeps following you, the only way to avoid this is to go all the way up, I when it get close just go all the way down very fast. I know is good a game has a challenge, but this is so annoying, the only way to see the real ending is to finish in hard, this is so unfair. Actually I have finished it in hard in a real snes, took me like 3 weeks to don it, I keep practicing so much, It never occurred to me to do farming, so I just keep going, and always got to the final boss and because I was so nervous I even fall down by mistake. I liked more the original contra and the super C, this ones has more balance, longer stages, top view stages are not anoying, they are master pieces, but the super nes and don’t like because it is just to short. The same happened to the battletoads in battle maniacs, it is superior to the nes version, but it is just to short, so anoying they make games less longer, I wonder why?
My brother and I could beat this game without the code and rarely dying at all. Is that hard mode? Cause this game isnt really that hard, especially if you owned it as a kid.

Couple of thoughts on this game: 1. Is this the only game made harder for the NA crowd? And, 2. How about that sound track?
A lot of companies made games harder in NA because of game rentals and all that!
